I remember the days of Duck and Cover all too well. Being under those school desks was really going to save our lives wasn't it? Especially if we could see that nearby flash.
We were always cautioned NOT to look at the flash because we might be blinded. Who cares about being blinded if you're going to be vaporized anyway??? If I'm doomed to go *poof*, at least I want to see that last spectacular flash that's going to kill me!!!
"Look at the pretty light, mommy..."
Ah yes; whatever happened to those innocent times?

both my kids laugh hysterically when this topic comes up. they can't believe that we actually thought that crouching under our desks would save us from radiation. i agree....it's pretty funny now.

It could have been worse, they could have decided that you need to climb into a hole or something. That reminds me of a time when we were camping and the weather could have turned into a tornado and my dad said we'd have to jump in the ditch. All I could think of was, what if there are snakes in the ditch!!
ha ha, you are funny! Well if you are driving along a high way for example, the tornado could pick up your car, if you can get out of that car and into a ditch, abou 4 feet deep, you would be lower than the ground, but now that I think about it, the wind would be so strong it would suck you right out. I guess you'd have to find an underpass. But I suppose if a ditch is your only option, you might have a chance
