Gonna kick a doctor's butt!

Well, I told you all lasat night that my husband was taking Bethany to the E.R for her skin because she was miseraable and had started scratching so badly she was bleeding in many spots. I figured that they would give her some stronger medicine or a different type or medicine for her skin. Well, guess what! She never had Eczema. The last time we had to take her with us to Cody's check up for his concerta there was a child in the office with scabies, and he gave that to Bethany. Luckily for us the nurse who handled Bethany last night also works at the doctor's office two days out of the week, and remembered that we were there that day. The spots on her elbows and her knees are eczema, but the stuff we have been treating for the last 4 weeks and lathering her head to toe in stuff was not eczema, it was scabies. Thank God this was the same time that the baby positioned himself all oddly so I slept on the couch while she slept in bed with Floyd. Somehow he avoided getting it, as did Cody, but last night Floyd had to vacuum the bed, the couch, do laundry and all that good stuff. It was too late to get the medicine for her but she ws dosed up well with Benadryl and as long as she kept her clothes on she wouldn't give it to the baby or me. So Floyd went to go get her skin wash, and when he comes home he asks me to double check the rx because they had to call in something different than we had originally been perscribed since the Kwell was really expensive. So I am reading and thisis more of a shampoo for lice than a cream or body wash. So I told him to call the pharmacy and double check on the stuff because the doctor's orders were to rub it into her skin and wash it off 8 hours later. After he gets off the phone with the pharmacist he looks t me and tells me he's about to kill the staff in the E.R. I thought he was over reacting but then he tells me that if we had used the stuff that they had told the pharmacy to give us, our daughter probably would have been thrown into shock because it is made to treat head lice and not come in contact with the skin aside from the scalp. So the husband is off to get things straightened out. Wish us all luck, I think we are going to start doctoring in Springfield for good now. I'm quite ticked that we took Bethany to see the doctor 5 times over all and they never figured it out, and the doctor from last night took one look at her and knew what she had. Well, I'm babbling and the hubby is home with the meds, and oh boy the instructions are 4 pages long.

Good lord, Jess! What a horror! You probably have the right idea about going to Springfield for medical attention from now on. Mistakes like that can be deadly, and thank goodness you all caught it before any harm was done.

Well, the meds are actually for her skin this time, but they are seriously strong stuff. It's called lindane oil. If not applied properly, she could have a seizure and if we leave it on too long even worse. I honestly don't feel comfortable putting it on her in the house with the baby and all, so we called the pediatrician and the lpn is giong to put it on her for us. I had Floyd call and ask if they would because I just don't want to risk messing things up and hurting her. This way she is having the medicine applied in a controlled environment and if anything should happen, she's where she needs to be. I hate having to put such strong stuff on her, but the doctor from last night took a lot of things into account when he perscribed it. This is a one time application it will be all done and over with in 8 hours, and we don't have to worry about it ever again after this. I just can't wait to see my baby doll happy and healthy again. She just looks so worn down. I think we will have our little princess back to normal once this is all done and over with. My mom stopped by and brought us all lunch, a treat for her for after the appt. and took a bunch of clothes that she came in contact with so she could wash them for us.

It's funny, now that we don't live so close to my mother, we ge along so much better now. Before when she'd come over she was pushy and kinda annoying, now I can see that it comes from a good place. She isn't over here just to butt in, she truly wants to help. When I was little I would break out into infantigo (sp?) any time I'd get a bug bit or anything along those lines. I think she sees me all over again since Bethany is apparently a clone of me when I was younger. We haven't had to make one meal since we came home. Yesterday my mom sent us home with soup and spaghetti, and today she brought us cashew shrimp from the chinese spot. Well, anyways things are getting better. Thank the heavens for Benadryl. It's been the only thing that keeps Bethany out of suffering.

Ok so things are much different now!!! Floyd took Bethany to the doctors and came back without any problems except for the fact that the butt I am now kicking is the doctor from the E.R. She never had scabies (I couldn't be more relieved). Scabies would have entrance and burrowing marks and areas like that. She showed the hubby some pictures and Beth never had that. She still has eczema in a form, but she also has alergic reaction to the eczema and most things in the air. She called in an oral steroid for bethany that way we can avoid painful creams but get the benefit of the steroid at the same time. She also had a special ointment called in for her that would ease the itching swelling etc... until the steroids fixed the rest of the issue.

That's not all she's doing though. She is getting ahold of a couple of dermatologists for us and going to see which one we can get Beth to earliest and who would be best with a younger patient, then on Monday we go and she will double check Bethany's skin to see if the medicine has helped give us the official referral and we'll start working with the dermatologist because she's pretty sure that even though the meds will clear things up for now it will flare back up any time she gets irritated, and only a dermatologist can can handle her problems.

I am also going to talk to the homeopaths that I am getting ahold of for Cody to see if they can help with this as well. Right now we just need to make it so that she can at least sleep at night. I feel much more relieved now. Something just didn't sit right with me about the scabies thing. I looked up some info on it and there's no way she could have had it and no one else did. She was in bed with Floyd every single night for 4 weeks straight, and he would have had it just as badly as she would. Also the pictures that Elvia (the L.P.N Floyd took Beth to) gave us look nothing like this.

Thats great that she doesnt have Scabies. That sucks that your doctors all seem to be pretty confused. I hope that they got it right this time

Ok I'm so happy I could cry! We just put on the first dose of her ointment. She woke up from her nap itching herself raw, so we stripped her down and put the medicine on her. She cried at first, but after about 2 minutes if that it stopped. She stopped scratching and saying it hurt. The only problem that was left was the spot on the back of her leg that she had scratched to the point of bleeding before we could make her stop. I dabbed it with a wet wipe and no problems since. Hubby had to run out in another snow storm to get syringes for the two oral medicines. She is taking Zyrtec and prednisolone. The Zyrtec will probably be a permanent thing since she's got allergies, but the pred is only for 5 days.

More good news. .. We talked to the realtors about the house and everything is still good. We should be moving in soon. I can't wait.

How is she doing today, that poor little child, I hope this gets all under control with the new meds! It's more drama than you need right now!!

we all need to pray for you to have a nice peaceful time!

Affirmations for Peace and Life Balance:

I am aware of all of the beauty around me. I embrace my oneness with nature, the seasons, the sky, and all of the colors, smells and textures.

I take time for spiritual connection in meditation or prayer.

As I close my eyes and take a deep breath, I inhale uplifting feelings of peace and calm. I exhale and release any tension or stress.

I embrace love in the present moment, and I let go of fear.

I choose serenity now, as I allow myself to go within and to connect with
the comforting silence of my soul.

I deserve to relax. As I stop and relax I refresh my mind, my body and my spirit.

No matter what events occur during my day I remain calm and centered.

I let go of worry. I enjoy the natural flow of this day; whatever it may bring.

I make time today for true priorities in my work and in my personal life.

I offer love and appreciation in small ways to my family today.

I offer myself a day of nurturing this week. I deserve it!

Who I am is equally as important as what I do.

I live and enjoy fully the present moment.

I radiate peace and love out to others, helping them to be in peace and in love as well.

I open my heart to receiving love fully today.

I trust, I listen, and I follow my inner guidance

Hey, Jess! What an awful drama for the family just as you bring the new baby home! I'm really delighted, though, that you'll be in touch with a homeopath for Cody and perhaps he/she can do something permanant for Bethany's eczema. Homeopathy is really effective for eczema in young ones, but with some steroid use, it might take a little longer to cure. The steroids only suppress the symptoms (and I understand the need sometimes), so the homeopathic remedy will have to "undo" the suppression and might cause an aggravation of her rash at first. But be patient!!

Good luck, Jess.

Thanks for the 411 Kae, I have great great news. We had a completely itch free night! No screaming that it hurts no, having to hold her down and put on bandaids, just sleep. She didn't fight us when we gave her the Zyrtec or the steroid (which I hate giving to her, but if it gets her healed up enough that she isn't scratching herself raw and bleeding all over I will definitely take it). She is sleeping in today and I can't blame her one bit, it's been so long since she's been able to do it. While the eczema isn't completely cleared up, there is definitely a noticible difference. She finally looks peaceful, and it was nice to be able to sleep in my bed and not be freaked out about scabies.

On the Aiden front... all is very very well. The night before last I didn't sleep well at all because of all the drama going on and I wasn't even able to go back to sleeping in my bed, on top of that I was too worried to let Aiden sleep in his cradle becasue I didn't want him getting whatever she had. Well, now that we know that all is well, and we don't have anything communicable running around our house I was able to actually nurse him in bed and let him sleep in his cradle instead of the car seat (it was the only thing that had never come in the house when we got it, we just put it in the car and left things as is just in case). He got up 2 times on his own and once we had to wake him cuz he made a dirty diaper in his sleep. He's actually sleeping curled up to daddy right now (I'll laugh if he tries to latch on to him) and I am enjoying the calm and quiet. I'm actually shopping for a nice glider/rocker for the new house. The master bedroom is so big that i would love to have one in there in the same area as his bed. I think we're going to put the cradle in the nursery and the pack-n-play in our room because it's sage green with pooh and it matches our new bedding perfectly. I figure we'll still have Bethany joining us sometimes at night so when we get moved we are going to keep her youth bed in our room over by Aiden, and we found an adorable canopy bed for a very very reasonable price, so she'll get that in her room. I figure if we put a glider in our bedroom, I can nurse Aiden and Bethany can be in the room with us at the same time playing or something along those lines. That way no one is left out and it doesn't have to be downstairs in the living room or anything so that when we have company I can sneak off to a nice quiet place.
