In the middle of terrible tragedy and sadness, one man's actions stand out. According ot a few students and a number of news sites and even personal blogs, Professor Liviu Librescu held the door to his classroom shut buying precious time for his students to escape from the windows. Here's a link to some more information on it. While it's so very sad that this man died, he certainly died a heroe's death. One person on Soapcentral put it well. From Megdarcy at soapcentral

There is a story coming out of VA about a real hero. Professor Liviu Librescu is among the dead at VA Tech. Prof Librescu, an Israeli, was born in Romania and was known internationally for his research in aeronautical engineering. He was 76 years old.
Fox News is reporting that Professor Librescu, a Holocaust survivor, barricaded the classroom door with his body and directed his students to jump out the windows and run for their lives, as the gunman killed him.
His wife and son, Joe, have been telling the media how much he loved teaching and loved his students.
April 15 was Holocaust Rembrance Day. If you are a person of faith, you could say this story was written from heaven above, that God spared him in the Holocaust so that he would be there on April 16, 2007 to save these young people.
Shelly, I heard on the car radio this morning that the shooter had been referred to psych services by his creative writing teacher. Apparently, he had written some very disturbing stories for class, so it looks like he had a huge problem for a while.
I can only imagine how that teacher feels now, if the kid didn't ever take her up on her recommendation.
that teacher has been spoken about in many of the news reports. saw an interview w/some of the students whose lives he saved. very emotional.
from the reports i've seen the shooter was always a loner & has a history of writing disturbing english assignemnts. i think some of his behaviors could be linked to schizophrenia. he was certainly the right age for it.

Kris i forgot about the age part of skizo....I just learned more about the disease in my psyche class too....too bad its an online class I imagine the discussion on this kid could be good
thats so sad....the shooter was only 23 years old. I seriously wonder what was so bad in his life that he felt he needed to do something like this
What is awful is that there were red flags about this man who shot all those innocent people and the University couldn't do anything about him. There are teachers contacting the woman who was his teacher trying to figure out these warning signs and what can be done about it
I'm worried for my husband, a man that worked there used to talk about using a gun to kill his enemies and my husband's coworkers laughed it off, now this man has been fired for other reasons and he is trying to get everyone else in trouble for stupid things, and I worry that he will get tired of that and actually follow thru with the gun threat.
I told the one coworker who actually took this guy seriously to report it, even annonymously, just to be on the safe side.
