They're likely not going to care because it's younger kids and they had out kids trophies so, I'd go with no. But then again it depends on the kind of kid. If he's a jealous sort you could, but I'd in general say nah, no need here.

i have a real problem w/kids getting meaningless reward just b/c they show up. it teaches them nothing. they learn early on that these trophies have no value b/c everyone got one. trophies are supposed to signify accomplishment.
if you want to do something special for your teen then plan something special but make sure he has done something special to deserve it. praise for praise sake it totally meaningless. ask your kids.

we also have to think of the long term effects of trophies so everyone feels nice....when they get into the real world no one will treat them like this. it creates unrealistic expectations for adult life.

I'd say get him something that goes along with his guitar lessons. I have no clue what that would be. Maybe a new guitar strap ummm or picks or ummmm yeah I'm hopeless. For baseball here they would give out medals for everyone but trophies for special achievement.

I don't think it's meaningless at all!!! Ryan's been taking guitar lessons for years, he practices every night, he's come a long way, and with private lessons he gets no reward. I think a trophy or certificate would show him that I appreciate working so hard at learning to play guitar! As well as Gabi doing a great job in Ballet and Zach a great job in Soccer. They all accomplished something wonderful these past couple of years!! They deserve the Praise for going to practices and trying their best! That settles it, I'm definitely getting the trophy!
It would be cool if you could get a trophy made up that had a guitar on it...I like Jess's idea too of something to go with his guitar. Or does he have certain songs he likes to play, maybe you could get him a songbook of a favorite artist or something.
and I agree with you that it is great that he knows you are proud of him...and sometimes words arent enough...definitely get him something. At his age I dont know if I would have stuck with the lessons....so thats awesome
