spoiler about asa

From The Logan Report in this weeks TV Guide:

Logan Rant One Life to Live plans to kill off Asa, the beloved cowpoke patriarch played by Phil Carey. The actor, who survived lung cancer and made an inspiring return to the soap last fall, was recently taken off contract after 28 years! and was asked to go recurring. Carey got pissed and quit so, come August, Asa will die off camera. I guess the writers see this as a great plot trigger but it seems so sad and heartless. Asa fans dont want him to pass away. Wed like to believe that ornery cuss is still out there somewhere raising hell.

well since PC has been little more than recurring ~~~ in spite of being on contract ~~~ for years before this contract ran out i don't see why he was surprised by them wanting to move him off contract....or why fans were surprised. i also read they asked him to extend so they could give him a proper send off......he refused.

i don't think any disrespect was intended. producers have a responsibility to the bottom line. if there was any disrespect to the character of asa it was on PC's side....just my opinion.

I dont think I agree about their being no disrespect intended. The people at ABC have been disrespecting its vets for years now. PC is no exception. And I dont blame him for wanting more then recurring. The man gave a lot to OLTL over the years. And just because he may have been an ass personally doesnt mean that he didnt give his all to the show. Like it said, he battled Lung cancer and still returned to this show...that says a lot to me, and disrespect isnt it.

On the one hand I will miss Asa, although Kris is right, we haven't seen much of him lately. They do show disrespect, and yet I understand their budget concerns, It would have been nice for a happy compromise, and I don't know if this sounds bad, but he's in his 80's and probably should just enjoy his retirement. Fans can not have expected him to be there forever
