I wondered about that. Hard to say. Those stories always scare me! I'd get a gun if I though the kids would keep their hands off it. My second option is a baseball bat

yeah, serioulsy makes you wonder about details. I mean where was this father while his family was being murdered. If he wasnt involved he must not have been very strong. I would have fought to the death to save my kids. And we do have a handgun. But my wee one is a little young yet. Its not loaded either.

I have to remember to lock it in the safe before I leave Friday

We don't even lock our doors around here unless we're going out for a while. If someone wants in badly enough, a little lock isn't going to stop them.

thats what I figure kae, but we still lock our doors. I figure that way if they break in I will hear it and have time to do whatever comes to mind at the moment. Hopefully should that happen my hubby would be home.

This was such a HORRIBLE story!

I keep my doors locked at all times, and get really upset when my youngest doesn't lock the door behind her, either on her way in or on her way out.

Although intruders CAN get into a house if they're determined to do so, especially if that house was specifically targeted for whatever reason, a locked door can be a simple deterent. It's a little like the alarm systems. Those can be circumvented too, but if it's too much trouble to bother, the intruders will just move onto a house that's easier to enter.

Like one with unlocked doors...

Having had TWO in-home burglaries in my lifetime (quite enough, thank you), I keep my doors locked day and night, and the alarm set at night, and whenever I leave the house. I suppose that I could leave it on during the daytime too, but since Lucy barks at anything that moves, I don't bother.

I do have a stungun packed away somewhere. This conversation is making me think that I ought to dig it out!

Very scary!

yeah both of our doors have the kind of lock that you can push it in and it automatically locks when you close the door. And then we have the dead bolts. I spend a lot of time here with just myself and Jojo (you guys should feel honored that I trust you enough to tell you that) so my doors are always locked. We have a huge sliding glass door that not only has a lock on it but a wooden stick keeping it from being open. I really do need a dog though, I think I would feel a little better.
