Tom, who has already begun taping at "B&B," will be playing the role of Katie Logan, the younger sister of Brooke (Katherine Kelly Lang) and Donna (Jennifer Gareis). The character of Katie was created by multiple Emmy winning writer William Bell who also created Tom's signature role on "Y&R." Tom has signed a six-month contract with the soap.
Tom began her soap career in 1991 as Victoria Newman on "Y&R." She portrayed the role until December 2003. Shortly thereafter, she became the third actress to portray Kelly Cramer Buchanan on "OLTL," taking over the role from Tracy Lindsey Melchoir (Gina Tognoni originated the role in 1995). In 2004, she took her Kelly role to Pine Valley, and appeared in several episodes of "All My Children" during a baby switch storyline which encompased both "AMC" and "OLTL." In February she appeared on the USA Network program "Monk," and guest starred with her sister Nicholle on "Wedding Bells." Tom has also appeared on stage in theater productions on both coasts.
The 31-year-old Tom holds the record for the most Emmy nominations for an actress under thirty. She won Daytime Emmys in 1993 and 1999 in the category of Outstanding Younger Actress in a Drama Series for her "Y&R" role. Tom was nominated in the same category in 1998 and 2000. In 2004, 2005, and 2007 she was nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actress. In 1997 Tom picked up a Soap Opera Digest Award for Outstanding Younger Actress. Her sister Nicholle portrayed Maggie Sheffield in the 1990s Fran Drescher sitcom "The Nanny." She has also been a rather vocal supporter of women's reproductive rights, and has recruited other daytime stars to join "Daytime for Choice," which is a part of the Planned Parenthood Organization. In 2005 Tom publicly critized the NBC drama "Days of our Lives" in Soap Opera Digest for an abortion storyline which led to a young character developing a fertility-destroying infection.
Tom left "OLTL" in December of 2006 after choosing not to renew her contract with the daytime drama.
