Hey guys I need help.. I am trying to bake this cake for Jolene for her birthday. The directions say to make 1- 2 layer cake and pour into the pan. I am using a box mix so does this mean that I need to make 2 boxes and just pour the whole mix into the pan or do I have to make 2 cakes and put them together.
well I looked at the website where i fount the picture and it says that the pan takes one box....but I think 1 box may not feed everyone for the party. I may end up doing a second cake and decorating it like Mickey, I think if I just cut the bow it might work. Now I have to find the buttercream to decorate it. I went to AC Moore and Michaels and neither place had any. I dont think that my hand mixer will make it. So I am trying to find a place to buy it but its not working
Sorry - phone rang. it was my shopping friend. She's on her way down here to take me to Costco with her card. Then we're going to go get her daughter Rescue Remedy for hr public speaking thing next week. Dang, I'll have to get cash for Costco, yes?
I dont know. I think I just need to call around and find a mixer that I can borrow. I may just use my hand mixer and make small batches. I dont know what to do....ARGH, and darn me for waiting til the last minute
and you might need cash, tough call. Sometimes they let you pay with a card sometimes they do not
I got he cutest little fairy cake for Bethany's Birthday. It was tinker bell and just adorable. Wal Mart has some awesome layered cakes too. Oh and now they make the princess doll cakes. They take a Barbie and put it in the middle of a cake that has had the center cut out. Then decorate the cake to look like the dress.
yeah I thought about going and having the store do it. But I thought it would be cool to be a mom who bakes and decorates her own cakes. Our minister's wife is one of those people who knows how to do everything and she is going to help me with the cake. I will take pictures when it is done.
Yeah same here our house is too chaotic for cakes. I will gladly do cupcakes, or cookies though. oh and I've got this weird thing about making cool dips now. It's like my obsession. I made some awesome shrimp dip last night.
If the directions on the box say that the mix is enough for the specialty pan, then it's a choice of making that one cake into one or two layers after it's baked.
You can bake the entire thing in the specialty pan, let it cool, and then carefully cut the cake into a bottom and a top...

I see that you decided to keep her as one layer and -- in my opinion -- that's a good choice. It's a pain to try to cut a cake like this in half evenly, and it sort of takes away from the convenience of having baked a cake on one large pan like this in the first place.
But, it's way cute, Shelly. I can't wait to see the final version. Good job! (claps)

OH my gosh it's too cute!!! Way to go Shelley. You know I talked to my cousin last night and totally forgot that she's a cake decorator. If it is as fun as you make it sound maybe I should have her get me started ... ok probably not going to happen lol.
Its seriously fun...a little expensive but I think that once you get all the stuff. Like the tips and the coloring then its pretty cheap. And she came out pretty good. I think I am going to go find another cake pan and do another one.
I'll tell you, Shelly -- you just never know which random creative bug is going to bite you!
Over the years, I've become fascinated with stuff that I never thought I either would be interested in, or could even do back when I was in my twenties.
Baking is a very satisfying outlet, and when you can make it as creative as you did with this cake, it's great fun. Who knows? Some people who began as you are now progressed in their level of interest to the point where they actually created successful cake baking businesses.
Do you ever watch FoodTV? There have been some awesome cake baking competitions on it by true professionals. If you haven't seen any of these, you should keep an eye open for them. They'll really get your creative juices flowing!
You should see if there are any cake baking classes in your area! Sometimes they're offered through the county, or even your local craft store might know of some. Cake baking is a huge deal these days, and there's lots of great equipment readily available.
Great job! I say go for it, if you enjoy it...

thanks Moore, yeah I have heard that Milton actually has classes. I really want to take some. I want to learn how to use fondant more. I liked butter cream but it tastes really good. Im going to look at the schedule that AC Moore holds and see what I can take. I am also going to put some of the baking supplies on my Christmas list.
