Ok so what's everyone up to this Halloween? We are going to go to the Halloween Parade, possibly go to zoolie ghoulie, a party at a friends and then of course trick or treats lol. Yeah we're quite busy. It's my favorite time of year though. Bethany is going to be a peacock princess and a fair (the little dress can double for both things it came with peacock wings but we're getting some regular wings as well) we got her make up for the costume today. I'm just going to do like sparkles and then I got a sparkly lavender eye liner that I'm going to draw some pretty designs on her cheeks, then of course glittery roll on stuff. Sparkle hair spray and mint green powder that I still am not sure what to do with lol. Crud I need to get some blue stuff to tie that into the costume hmm I'll figure it out later lol. Aiden is going to be a scarecrow I got the felt to tack onto his bib overalls today, and the yarn for hair under his hat. I forgot to get the red stuff for his cheeks but oh well I doubt they'll run out. Cody will be tons of fun because he's letting me dress him up as a pregnant lady. He wanted to do something that would win the costume contest, and I told him honestly that nothing from the store is going to do that. So I told him I could let him use an old maternity shirt and a wig then make him a pregnant woman.
We're taking Vanessa to the big party for kids at my husband's office on the 30th. She's got her pink poodle outfit all ready and I'm wearing a long black dress, witch's hat and fake red eyelashes. I hope her mommy and baby brother can come too. We have a pumpkin hat for him and an orange onesie. I guess much depends upon the weather.
The night of the 31st we're stuck answering the doorbell until we run out of candy, usually about 8:30. Then I blow out the jack-o-lantern candles and call it a day.
Does anyone else have a problem with squirrels and chipmunks eating the pumpkins on the porch? I've had to replace a couple already. Darn critters!
Oh, we usually carve the pumpkins on the afternoon of the 31st. Big mess, but lots of fun as Vanessa will be "helping" me this year.
You know I've never had to worry abou the squirrels getting my pumpkins, but we have a little squirrel feeder which almost always has a good ear of corn on it. It's kinda a family thing. My grandpa loved squirrels so he had the feeders everywhere and a huge bin full of corn for when it emptied. That's one of the things we all remember most about him. We even put a little squirrel on his headstone.
I feed them too! We have a huge quince bush in the back that bears dozens and dozens of fruit - they love that. Then there are the grape vines (uh, were - I had them taken down, went crazy) on the east wall they feasted on, plus the squirrel feeder filled often with peanuts or whatever's on sale, and bread crusts and stale french sticks almost every day.
One year when we were having the worst time with them digging up bulbs, we planted moth balls along the walkway to deter them. All that did was give the front of the house that yicky smell of a granny closet, and they still dug up all the tulips and daffodills.
I think the critters around here are just plain evil. It took me two whole years of doing a battle of wits with that demon spawn chippie before he left the dogs alone, only to take up residence in a box of styrofoam peanuts in the garage. Now it smells so gamey in there, you almost need a gas mask just to get to the garbage bins. He snorts around his little entrance with such a sense of ownership, it almost makes me feel apologetic for having to get in there for something.
And in the same garage one winter, a squirrel had set up shop on one of the rafters. The eaves cleaner guys saw a small hole on the roof and filled it in for us, trapping Mr. Squirrel in there. No problem! He just gnawed a hole in the back door around the window and made himself a new exit. Better that than starving, but still, it cost us a new door.
Lol yeah you have some seriously crazy animals in your area. I guess after having the avid hunter Scott over all the animals around us are just happy to not be supper
Yeah my husband hates our squirrels, mainly because we love our birds and the darned squirrels always prefer our bird food to the ear of corn.
This Halloween i am not sure what we are doing. We will spend the day in Boston because Vinnie is reenlisting on the USS Constitution up there, he says we will be back in time for Jolene to go out trick or treating.
We got her a Minnie Mouse costume, I still got to get her leggings cause I am sure it will be cold. I love Halloween but we are sposed to be moving at any time now so we wont decorate because that would be one more thing to be done before we could move. ARGH
