I haven't been paying too much attention to OLTL, but I do have this to say about Asa's will and how he's attached strings to everything. The old saying "shirt sleeves to shirt sleeves in three generations" is really, sadly, all too true.
We've seen this happen in several prominent and not so prominent families right here in town. Grandpa works his butt off to make a dynasty, the sons and daughters take over when grandpa retires, and the grandkids live the high life on their trust funds. When their parents retire or die, the kids take over, but unused to hard work and dedication, they squabble and before you know it, the empire is in ruins, bankrupt, or just plain gone. Here in Canada, that has applied to the Eatons, the Creeds and the family that owned Birks. It also happened in my mothers' family.
So Asa's stipulation that all family members must sit on the board and vote unanimously has a lot of sense in it. That is, there will be solidarity within the family, the company will flourish or no money will be distributed, and everyone will have to be somehow active in BE.
Smart ol' Asa! It's a little mean short term, but in the end, I think all the Buchanans will thank him. As for Renee, doesn't she own a hotel? That ought to provide well enough for her, and she did buy it with Asa's money didn't she? Wasn't it given to her as part of one of their many divorces?
So what about today's (Friday) show? I haven't played my recording yet. Is it worth a look? I only have an hour and I do want to watch Y&R's taped epi.
