We had the gang over for dinner last night, so today I'm taking it easy. It's a cold, damp, dreary day out there anyway. Good day to stay home.
I did some online shopping last week, but seldom get to the serious Christmas stuff for another couple of weeks. This isn't my favourite time of the year, to say the least. Ask anyone who knows me well, and they'll tell you my favourite day all year is Boxing Day because it's about as far away from the 25th as you get. It's not that I'm a scrooge or anything, but I feel that the season has been taken over by merchants and the whole sentiment of Christmas has been ruined. And it IS a lot of work.
This year, since my poor little mother isn't baking any longer, I've ordered a croquembouche for Christmas dessert. Last night the guys all agreed that they wanted turkey for dinner that day. The very idea of it makes me feel like throwing up, but it'll be all over soon enough.
We watched (sort of, because we were sneering and laughing at how BAD they were) two really terrible movies on Saturday night, worst $12 we've spent in a long time - "Knocked Up" and "Licence to Wed". I should have cleaned the bathrooms instead. At least I would have done something useful. After almost 4 hours of that swill, I felt brain-dead.
A croquembouche is a sweet cake, sort of, thing made out of choux pastry puffs and built into a pyramid. The one I ordered is going to be filled with grand marnier creamy stuff and held together with carmelised sugar. I know you've seen them before. They've been around for ever. I'll see if I can find a picture for you.
Boxing Day is December 26 and a bank holiday here. If Christmas falls on a Saturday or Sunday, then Boxing Day is recognised on the Monday, so no school or work that day.
As for those movies, I can't be bothered with formulaic cheese any more. I used to get a little enjoyment out of them, but not now. But then sometimes if the acting is charming, like Reese Witherspoon in those Legally Blonde things she did, I like them. That Heigl (sp?) from Grey's just gives me the heaves. Don't like her at all. Not one bit. Same goes for Aniston. Can not stand. Phoney twits. Of course, that's just my opinion, but you did ask, lol.
I am looking for a good but cheap mp3 player for Cody because well, it's his first and I'm not spending a lot on it, while I don't want to buy him a junky one.
Nope havent bought a thing today, well not shopping wise. I am not doing much, only have a couple of weeks left of school so thats the big thing on my mind. That and with Vinnie gone again its quiet around here.
Kae, I understand your opinion on movies. Though I just love Jennifer Aniston. And also loved Legally Blond.
I liked knocked up only because it reminded me a lot of my husband and me haha. I don't do many movies anymore. I just don't have the time nor do I care as much.
