It's been a little hairy the last few days, is all. Yesterday I spent the better part of the day with d-i-l and the 2 kids at the Just For Kids clinic at the local hospital waiting for Vanessa's ophthalmologist's appointment (was for nothing - she's fine), then had to spend another couple of hours going through my mother's closets hauling out her spring clothes - found five pairs of pink slacks she didn't know she had, then went to visit Marilyn who is now back from her Waltzing Mathilda tour while waiting to pick up Ted from the subway, and just as I was pulling out of Marilyn's driveway, he called to say he was still at the office (now it's 6:30 at night). So I was still in the kitchen with dinner dishes at 9:30 last night.
We are now back on line with the contractor. His "assistant" or office manager, or whatever the heck she is, Lin, is an idiot. Se kept sending us these ridiculously inaccurate estimates, then wouldn't return calls. Ted finally wrote them a retainer cheque this morning and I am supposed to see him turn up here at some point before the end of the week. Yeah, right. I'll hold my breath.
This afternoon is Vanessa's third birthday party and I have to pick up parents, the cupcakes, my husband and help with the set up at 3:30 for the 5 o'clock festivities.
Maria is here cleaning today and the minute she leaves, I'll follow her out the door.
Nick will be home in 9 days. I've asked for his itinerary and he hasn't sent it yet. My high speed internet provider has cut off my ability to send e mail until I do some fiddling adjustment and every time I phone them for help, I get put on hold, get a beep, hang up on them. Three days in a row now. I forgot to calculate that Nick actually picks up a day crossing the date line. He leaves Australia on the 11th, but will get here on the 13th, I think. He's in Melbourne now trying to sell his car, then will bus to Sydney to catch the plane on Saturday, next week.
Y&R has been great! I've been running it on LOUD while I'm in the kitchen at night. Lots of Gloria and it does look like Jerry Douglas is back to stay on as Alistair Wallingford. Familiar name, non?
Well, that all sounds totally nuts! No wonder you haven't been able to post...
I don't like the sound of Lin's crazy estimates. This is what happened to us with that original kitchen contractor we ran from. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that everything goes smoothly for you.
Happy Birthday to Vanessa.

Oh, thank you so much, all of you. It's a temporary situation, as is all of life's stages, huh? I should be thanking my lucky stars that I have this family, not griping about how much work they are, lol!
