Yesterday was a gorgeous day, but it became very overcast in the afternoon, and rain was forecast, so we arranged for our son to come over today instead to help with some yard work that desperately needed doing. Today was forecast to be sunny, and beautiful.
It was cold and misty instead. "A fine, soft day", Tess...
Nevertheless, it was actually the perfect temperature for doing pulling, tugging, chopping, hauling, etc., etc., and the ground was soft! We got a whole lot accomplished, but there's lots more to do. But it was a good start, and although I used muscles that I haven't used all winter, I'm pleased with the progress. (They neighbors are probably cheering behind closed doors right now too!)
I've decided that, although there are some distinct disadvantages to the "laissez-faire" approach to gardening (massive overgrowth, and shrubs that are actually weeds), there are also some advantages. For instance, all of those leaves that didn't get raked up last fall managed to produce the beginnings of a rather nice compost in the flower beds!
I'm sneezing from ivy dust, and am trying to figure out how to efficiently, and effectively commit ivy-genocide! It's gorgeous, but also very insidious... I'll continue to contemplate this as I sip my wine.
Hope everyone had a good Sunday.

Our neighbours were having an outdoor party so we didn't get any hedge clipping done as the noise would have been a little rude of us. Instead, Ted and Nick went to Jay Mowat's farm for maple syrup and I went to the Clinique Bonus Day at Sears.
All are coming for Sunday dinner in a few minutes. It's a kitchen dishes dinner, no fussing.
Thanks, KaeEll. I'm actually rather proud of myself! My husband isn't supposed to lift stuff anymore, so he tackled the little waterfall/pond thingy that we have at the side of the house. It was apparently worse than the turtle tank!
We fed our son a late brunch; my husband then washed the kid's car which was covered with pollen, and then began working on the pond. When our son was ready to go home for a long, hot shower, and a change of clothes, we handed him $40.00, and told him to go treat himself to carryout from Outback Steakhouse. (Okay, that's probably enough for two meals, but he never asks for ANYTHING!) If I know our son, he'll get the cheese fries (or the bloomin' onion) appetizer, and a nice thick steak. He deserves it...
KaeEll, your friend looks really nice, and I envy him his bee hives!

Today was a bit on the chilly side, with a threat for rain all day, which did not occur. I spent the morning catching up on my laundry and housework. I spent the afternoon taking a nap, and not working. It was a wonderfully decadent afternoon. I also purchased myself some really nice shirts for my work wardrobe, and added a few pairs of slacks. I love Ann Taylor, and I know exactly what size I wear, so the shopping was easy. They had a 30% off sale when you purchased more than three shirts, so eight shirts later, my spring/summer work/shopping wardrobe is done.
I was really frustrated when I went into my closets and pulled out what I had. For the last two summers I worked in a place that was casual for the summer, so I really felt limited related to what I had. I also swear by Ann Taylor's slacks. Their quality is wonderful, and I now basically have an entire work slacks wardrobe that is from there. I am not a big shopper, so getting this done online was wonderful. I stopped in TJ Maxx one day after work and I did not find anything in there. Ann Taylor also has a great petite line, which fits me perfectly. So it's all good.
I am going to get an early night, and get into the office early tomorrow. The traffic should be pretty bad, because everyone will be going back to work, after taking the week off for school vacations.
