Okay, I just have to begin this thread out of a sense of pride!
I don't know how many of you saw the gorgeous shots of the various memorials in Washington, DC, or heard the singing at the Lincoln Memorial, but it all just gave me goosebumps.
It's a magnificent morning here, and Robin Roberts gave a wonderful report.
If you haven't been to Washington, DC before, y'all need to come because it's a truly beautiful city. First-time visitors always comment on how CLEAN it is!
Spring and fall are the best times to visit...
Anyway, I hope that some of you saw Robin's report on GMA.

Moore I think that the area around the White House, the Capitol and all of that stuff is pretty clean. Its when you step out of that area that its just like any other city. Though when we lived at Fort Meade I believe we got to see the city twice. Once with my sister and dad and then when my mom came out we actually paid for one of those trolleys and were able to see everything. Its truly an amazing place.
Shelly, there certainly are some areas within the city that are horrible, and those also tend to go hand in hand with the higher crime areas, but the Mall area, and the primary downtown area are really beautiful. Also, as you cross Memorial Bridge into Virginia, and continue to Arlington National Cemetery, it's SO pretty...
I'm glad that you've been able to visit a couple of times. I wish that every American could come here at least one time!

It is a beautiful and spanking clean city! We have been many times en route to Hilton Head and to visit my s-i-l who lives in Silver Spring and works smack downtown at the school for the deaf. We always used to go have sundaes at Bob's Ice Cream (near the Foggy Bottom metro station) until they closed it several years back. Anyone else remember that place? The kids thought that was the best part of DC, lol.
Moore I completely agree with all that you said. I don't know that I could live there because outside of the mall represents all the things I don't like about big cities. I have anxiety issues when I am around so many people. But the mall and the cemetary are just breathtaking. I agree that every American, especially those who claim to hate their own country so much should have to visit. Especially the cemetary. There are no words when you see all those headstones
