David versus David! (American Idol)

Gee, who knew???

All of us!

Anyway, it HAS come down to David versus David, so which David ought to win?

I am SO torn! I think that David Cook has all the right stuff; he has the right sound, he can take a ballad and turn it into a contemporary sound with a bit of a rock twist, and he seems like a nice guy.

On the other hand, David Archuleta has the most God-given raw talent, in my opinion, and is so humble about it all that it's difficult NOT to support the kid! Not only that, his performances almost always bring me to tears because his voice is so beautiful, and he always puts his heart into each song he chooses.

The truth is that they'll both have extraordinary careers, but who should win???

It is a really tough call. But you are right that we all knew it would come down to the two Davids

Aw, Moore, you are always so kind! I've not been able to stomach the little David for three weeks now. I know, I know, he's got that voice, that golly shucks ma'am manner about him, but he is NOT an American Idol for me, and that he's still around pisses me off. In my opinion, he's a personality-missing little robot, and he always seems to add that extra dose of treacle to a song, in that same old, same old, predictable style. I need a dose of insulin after his performance, and I'm not diabetic.

Big David, on the other hand, has the reluctant hero manner that I love. His voice is electric, his demeanour, humble yet proud, and I'm 100% behind him. And when he said in his bio bit last night that since he was there on a whim, and had come this far, there has to be a bigger picture working, a force we couldn't see....sigh.

Of course, this is AI, and the people will vote for the child next week. However, in the long run, David Cook will have a wonderful career, and Archuletta's will be tanked by that meddling, overbearing stage father of his. Did you read that Jeff, the father, was barred from rehearsals, that Nigel, the producer, made a statement to the press about it? It made me think immediately of that child from Home Alone who we haven't seen in years. He had a stage father too, non?

As for the sweet girl that was sent packing last night, her career on Broadway will be just fine. I've always maintained that a finger-flapper would never make it to finals, and I was right again, lol. (Finger-flapping is that unfortunate habit of tapping the microphone with the three middle fingers. Ugh.)

Fantasia - what did you think of that high energy performance last night? The hair colour was a bit radical, and I was flummoxed by Simon's dropped jaw expression after her song. He looked as if he was either amazed by the talent or horrified by the act. I'm not a fan of that type of music, but was entertained none the less.

Kae I was kind of thinking I would rather have David Cooke only because fame is harsh and little David is so young. Would hate to see him ruined at such a young age. Then again your right, with a dad like his maybe he is already ruined. I haven't watched a full episode this entire season but have kept up with the show in the news and all those shows..I really liked some of the girls who were booted early on.

KaeEll, I agree with you that Syesha (spelling?) will have a fabulous Broadway career. It seems taylor-made for her!

Somehow, we managed to miss the Fantasia part of last night's show (it has been a strange couple of days) so I can't really answer your question. Was she fabulous? What did Simon say? Fill me in!

I, too, am worried about David A's father. I did know about his being barred from rehearsals, and that's just sad. Shelly, I also agree with your point that the music industry can chew up young artists (especially the innocent ones), and spit them out. I just hope that David A can have a successful career, win or lose, despite that dreadful father! Idiot...

The bottom line is that I agree with you guys that David Cook is probably the best choice, and will also probably win.

Shelly, I think little David already has bad juju going on. He may win the contest, but with his father running the show, there will be some very rough times ahead for him. The other David is an adult, seems to have a pretty good handle on who he is. I'll never forget that one night, early on in the contest, when he was lippy to Simon. He said that he was there to impress not just the judges, but the audience. It was uncalled for, and not very political, but it said volumes to me that HE had the right perspective of the whole whoop-dee-do that is American Idol.

The one thing that bothers me more than anything else about Archuletto is his consistent voice quavers on notes. Just wind him up, and out it comes. No heart. No soul. He's a KID! Give him a decade or so, and we'll see. I'm a heartless old bag, I know, lol.

Moore, Fantasia sang a Broadway-type song, tons of dance moves, really high energy! It was quite spectacular! Simon said nothing, but his facial expression was like I'd never seem before. His mouth was open, eyes wide, as if either having seen a horror or he was simply amazed. It's impossible for me to say which it was. Afterwards, Fantasia was winded, no surprise there! Apparently, she's been in The Color Purple on stage these past months, wants to get back to her music. Her hair was dyed in bright red, not auburn, red, as in cherries. She's aged a bit (who hasn't) and has a warm aura about her now. I was never a great fan of hers, but would I pay to see her perform? Yes, indeed.

Kae I completely agree with you about both Davids. I really do hope that David Cooke wins. Though we all know that whichever David doesn't win will have a contract by the end of the night anyways.

Been awhile since it's been all guys. But that's cool. I honestly couldn't care who wins because this show has run its course. Too bad it'll struggle and keep around far longer then it needs to be. Bring back any of the top 6 from any of the past seasons and they would have slaughtered this group in a heartbeat. Neither one of the Davids is overly impressive so doesn't really matter who wins because I won't be buying their albums unless they've got some really good lyrics and sound, which right now, I'm very doubtful of.

Winning doesn't guarantee a career though. Look what happened to Ruben Studdard and Taylor Hicks - both of them lost their labels, and I think Katherine McPhee did as well. Clay Aikin's on Broadway in Spamalot, so he's done alright but do his albums sell? Don't know. For us, it's just fun watching, certainly better than more blood and gore at 9 p.m. The one idol winner that seems to have done best of all is that blonde C&W singer, Carrie Underwood (?) who I've read is a total witch behind the scenes, and I paraphrased that to soften it, lol.

Well Kelly Clarkson has done all right but yeah truly there's only been two really big break out stars from that.
