Its Thursday

So even though only myself, Kae and Moore have been posting today (besides Bran's spoiler) I wanted to open a daily thread anyways. I have decided to branch out and try and get any job I can. I got a phone call from a job agency here in town with a data entry job that will last 3 to 6 months. Sounds like a boring job but its solid money for that long. And doing data entry I will get paid more then I would at a hotel anyways. I am just going to be one of those people who works outside of their degree

Whats up with everyone else. I sure hope that Jess can come and say hi to us on the weekend. I hope this job isnt wiping her out. Its hard to get back into the work force after being out for awhile.

I'm trying to stay out of everyone's way around here this morning. The plumber's working away, Maria is here vacuuming everything, Ted's working at home until after lunch. I have a 4 o'clock dentist appointment, cleaning. Ugh.

Shelly, it must be a shock to the system going back to work after the life of school and taking care of Jolene. Mike, the son working on his doctorate, says he's learned that there are a lot of unemployed PhD's out there, thinks he might need to reevaluate the wisdom of pursuing it when he doesn't like the atmosphere of academia at that level, and there's rent to pay, food to buy. I shrug. Working outside one's field seems the normal thing these days, lol. The practicalities of life take precedence.

Hey, Jess has a birthday coming up. When exactly is it?

Well unfortunately I've been too busy at work to really answer threads and talk like we used to. Stupid job responsibilities. LOL. Anyways, just booked the anniversary getaway with the wife for June 7th... yep. All good things.

I've been posting regularly, don't I count??

Today was Gabi's last day of school. I am so happy not to be driving her back and forth for the entire Summer! I'll also be glad when ballet, soccer and swimming end as well!

With the price of gas, I might just be a home body this Summer

Has anyone heard from Kris. Has she been on Soapcentral as dancemom?

I talked with Miranda, she's just busy. I always worry about her with that Oklahoma weather ya know!

Hey Bran, anniversary getaways are necessary! Have fun, but I'm sure I don't have to tell you that! biggrin.gif

Tina if you noticed I mentioned the few of us who had posted today, I believe it was after 11 when I started this thread and thats kind of late for us to start a daily thread. Usually most people start posting early in the morning. Hence the reason I named the people who had posted already today. No offense was intended

Brandon I can't believe its already been a year. My goodness how time flies.

Bran, where are you taking your bride? Somewhere romantic??? Gad, a year already!

Tina, I was always so relieved to have the chauffeuring chores go away for the summers, so I hear ya! It's a real treat to get those timetables out of the way for a few weeks.

I haven't checked, but I don't think Kris has been here for months. She had some complicated health issues.

I'm actually a little worried about Kris! I hope she's okay...

The landscaper called me this morning, and was very attentive as I described our flooding problem. He remembers the project, even though it was a number of years ago, and is going to come by next week to take a look at it.

Also, I called our homeowner's insurance company this morning to see if they'll cover the cost of our new furnace (although it won't help with the air conditioner). Keep your fingers crossed! I'll be very happy if the $16,000+ bill can be reduced a bit.

Arizona daughter is a happy camper! As I posted in the "Wednesday" thread last night, her GPA for this semester is a 3.67. This morning, she called with a little additional good news: the family she's nannying for (is that a word?) gave her a bit of a raise, and has also agreed to give her ten days of paid vacation That will definitely help her the next time she decides to come home. She deserves it too! She LOVES this little girl, and has really put her heart into taking care of her. She's taught her so much, has helped her grow up in a lot of ways, she makes certain that the house is meticulous, and makes gourmet goodies for the family.

Although...she DID put her foot in her mouth the other day, and because it's a really funny story, it might give you your daily laugh!

She and this little girl (4-1/2 years old) were in my daughter's car when they drove past a toy store. I forget now how the conversation came about, but it eventually led to my daughter's telling her little charge (Ayva) that not all children get to have as many toys as she does because their parents can't afford to buy so many things. This apparently confused Ayva somewhat, and she asked again, "But why can't they have a lot of toys???" My daughter told her a second time, "It's because their parents don't have enough money." Ayva was quiet for a minute, and then said:

"Ohhh... So you have to PAY Santa."

So we're staying at hotel down in Denver, one of their deluxe suites and as a part of that package we get a ride in an Escalade over to the biggest mall in Colorado, get to shop with a gift card and so forth too. Not too shabby.

How old is your house/furnace Moore? That's a huge expense! We have a friend in the heating and cooling business, too bad you didn't live near us.

Moore do you see Kris on AMC at soapcentral? She was dancemom. And AMC was her favorite show.

Today is so chilly I can't even believe this is May. This is absolutely the coldest Spring ever.

I really wanted to get more flowers planted. Damn rabbits ate most of my (oh forgot the name) the ones I put by my lattice with the clematis climbing up. I got some stuff from Walmart today to keep the rabbits away, hope the flowers come back. They're bitten all the way down though.

And one of my pepper plants got attacked - black birds. I need a scarecrow or owl statue. I have milk jugs on a couple of my pepper plants, but I can't do that all Summer.

My husband started digging for the front landscaping. Going to put some bushes in and be done with it! We've procrastinated 4 years now.

I'm going to an outlet mall tomorrow, going to get some Summer tops. Probably won't be here much. I hate to miss the Dixie stuff on AMC. Today was good!

No, I've been keeping an eye out for dancemom over there, but she hasn't been on since early February!

We've already had a couple of furnaces, and this new air conditioner will be our third. We bought this house the year after we were married, so it's been a LONG time, and we're the original owners. I'm really keeping my fingers crossed that our insurance will kick in for a portion of this expense since the flooding is apparently what caused the board to fry.

I hate appliances! I need a new fridge too, but have been delaying the inevitable in the hopes that I can get the kitchen project started. Since that keeps getting bumped back, I think that I'm going to need a new refrigerator in the meantime.

It just never ends when you own a house.

You're telling me! It never does end. One thing always after another. Our little bathroom project has turned into a Murphy's Law exercise. Now the stone company will not replace the cracked backsplash, only repair it, and they lost the original slab of limestone from which my counter was cut.

Moore, aren't AC supposed to last 15 years? We had to put in a new one when we bought here, ditto furnace , because the new high efficiency furnaces aren't compatible with the older style AC units. So NOT a fun way to spend money. I need a new fridge too. Too bad they don't give friend discounts, lol. The bottom shelf in the door fell off, sent glass bottles of condiments flying. Such fun cleaning up splatted mustard and chutney.

Brandon, sounds divine! Have fun, you two.

Wait a minute! What did I miss about the backsplash??? When and how did that get cracked?

You're right about the air conditioners, and this current one was installed during the summer of 1994 (hottest darned summer!!!), so it's near the end of its run. The thing is that if we install the new furnace, and wait for the air conditioner to die, it will be more expensive to install a new one later because they'll have to reconfigure the coils, or some such thing. This particular air conditioning unit has never been all that great anyway, so it's more prudent to go ahead and have both installed together.

Additionally, I'm told by the heating guy that they're phasing out the kind of freon that's currently being used in air conditioners, so the price has gone nutso because they want to make as much profit as possible on what currently exists. The new unit will not only use the new freon, but will be far more efficient, and environmentally friendly.

SOOOOO, for all of those reasons, we're plodding forward.
