The Knights of Columbus

So my husband gets invited to join the Knights of Columbus and I thought hurray something that would be a good example for his life. He's pretty much lead a wild life and maybe this would do him some good. Give him some guidance

Well guess what, they serve alcohol at meetings!

They serve to these men, who then drive home. And what if they caused an accident? Does the Catholic Church really need more scandal?

They also play poker. Which makes me wonder... Do they pick and choose which sins are allowed?

Yeah you know, bottom line is it's individual responsibility here. This may be your husband's challenge to look the devil in the face and tell him where to go. Serving alcohol there is no different then serving it at a sports event, at fancy dinner meetings, etc. Each person is responsible for what they take and each person is responsible for what they do out in the world.

That said, I agree it's odd that alcohol would be served at a religious function like that. However, poker... eh. Yeah we're not supposed to gamble but then again we're not really supposed to be eating meat on such and such a day, etc.

That's not the only criticism this group has, may want to check this article.

I feel that a person can be mislead thinking they are living a good life with the Knights because it's associated with the church. And in an alcoholic's mind if the other Christian men are drinking, then it must actually be an OK thing to do.

I'll read that article, thanks!

It's also a secret thing, my husband was instructed to say to me "can you keep a secret, and if I said yes, he was to say so can I"

I said No, because I can't keep a secret. But how silly is secret keeping anyway!!
