why the dentist pissed me off

I went to a new dentist for a normal cleaning and found out I owed $30. They could have told me my insurance wasn't covering all of their extra procedures BEFORE they did them (my old dentist the bills was paid 100%)

on top of that, they offered to sell me a special tooth brush, a special flouride toothpaste, oh how about a bleaching session, and maybe you should put some special powder on two of your teeth for $33 each

and they offered my son to have a sealant put on all his teeth at $53 a tooth!

I felt like they were trying to push all these extras liked trained used-car salesmen!

I know that when the office makes a profit they get treated to an office vacation, last year was Mexico.

NOW I see how they earn their reward trips, they have to sell, sell, sell. IMO it's wrong of a dentist office to push their services and all their little extras!

I won't be going back in 6 months. I'll drive out of my way to my old dentist. Unless gas goes up to $7 a gallon, then it wouldn't be worth it!

They're ALL like that now. It's a business.

If you really object, register with Northwestern University's Dental School programme. You can go there and be a guinea pig for half the price and have everything done you need. It will all be supervised by "demonstrators", i.e. real teaching dentists. Everything will take at least twice as long, the environment will be clinical, you'll get some ham-fisted idiots from time to time, but you WILL save a ton of money and no sales pitches.

Been there, done that, Tina. I'm back with my 'real"dentist now, but would be happy to talk to you about the alternatives. They ARE out there.

I just have to switch to the dentist that is listed with my insurance and everything will be covered again. My son goes to the attached Ortho and it's a pretty good office. I chose the office that I am now having billing issues with because of the location.

What kinds of alternatives are there?
