Dan has been promising that some cool new stuff was coming, and it all hit very early this morning!
You can join/create special groups, photo albums, individual profiles are more elaborate, tags can be added to posts and threads for easier searching, there are new graphics, and all kinds of stuff yet to be explored!
I'm not certain yet myself what all is there, and I'm not certain what can be seen only by moderators and what can be seen by others. Apparently, we can all see different versions of edited posts!
Just wanted to give you guys a heads-up. Dan really works hard on that site, and has been taking to heart everyone's suggestions for improvements. So, when you get a few extra minutes, go explore the site!

yeah the one life board isn't as bad now that the Vange fans aren't as vocal. Though the Todd supporters still boggle my mind.
Thanks Moore, I will check it out at some point in my day. You should suggest to him to add an Army Wives thing to the primetime shows. I am addicted and the star of the show did use to be Jenny.
Yesterday, and last night, there was a crazy new energy on the SOC board, and we're all still trying to get a grip on how all of the new "goodies" work!
You can post pictures in your profile now, and essentially I.M. other posters.
There's also a link to "social groups", and we have over two pages of all kinds of groups where you can post. Some are created as character/fan based groups, and others are broader. There's one on supporting more diversity on soaps, and one for posters who are from the Caribbean. KaeEll, you ought to start one for Canadians!
Everyone has been flitting around, all over the place, creating "friends" lists, creating new groups, joining new groups, fiddling with their profiles, and just generally exploring stuff.
Dan is still trying to answer all of the moderators' questions because it appears that some rules may change, given the new design. I'm not quite sure yet, but it appears that inserting links into posts eventually may be allowed (NOT sure yet, though), and possibly pictures. Again, not sure yet... Mods are trying to figure out how SOME things work, and what posters can see versus what we can see! I can definitely say, though, that Dan has been working his fanny off to upgrade his site, and to make it a really dynamic place to post; he has definitely listened to what posters have been asking for!
The messaging feature is nice, though, and I like the fact that we can have pictures in our profiles now. I've already created three albums (pictures of Lucy), and am going to create others. In some ways, it feels like a MASSIVE version of what posters experience on various smaller boards, like this one, where they can get to know each other in a more personal way. Of course, it's still HUGE, with more than just a handful of people chatting!
I was up until 1:00 a.m., answering private messages, posting questions to Dan, trying to answer posters' questions in a thread about the changes on the AMC board (didn't always know the answers, though), and generally playing with the new stuff. LOL...

Okay Moore. I have a couple questions. When I post a response and want to go back to the main message board page sometimes the option to go straight there isn't at the top of the thread anymore and I either have to use the back arrow button to go back to it or go to the soap home page and go back into it that way...Is there a shorter way to keep going back and forth?
Shelly, Moore's away for a few days. It's probably a result of Dan's tweaking things over there. It should be all right now. Every time a board has new features added, or the bandwidth is changed, stuff goes wonky for a bit. That's about as technical as I ever get in explanations, lol.
Aww, I forgot about Moore. I hope she is having a good time. And its not fixed, I guess I just have to adjust. Sometimes the link is there and sometimes it isn't. Its quite annoying.
Shelly, do you use Firefox? If so, Dan is trying to figure out why posters who use it are having issues similar to what you're experiencing. He's working on it!

Aww, that could be my problem. I love firefox and actually downloaded it onto my computer at work. I will try IE and see if I have the same issues. Thanks moore, I knew you would have an answer.
I hope that helps, Shelly. I know Dan is frustrated that posters are having this problem, and is trying to figure out why Firefox isn't working in the same way on the site that it did before he made all the upgrades.
He'll figure it out sooner or later, but in the meantime, just use something else...
