Monday.....

Well here we are, at the start of another work week. I am sorry that I have been MIA for the last couple of weeks. Work has been crazy. My first week after vacation was 70 hours, and last week was 75 hours. I have not had a day off since my last day of vacation.

On Saturday morning, my puppy, Dorie, woke up and was limping around the house. I thought that she must have landed the wrong way on her paw when she jumped off of the bed. I decided not to be a drama queen, but taking her to the vet's office for a sore paw. She continued to limp throughout the day, and did not seem to get better. Yesterday morning she was barely able to move, and in obvious pain, and one of her rear legs was goofed up, on the opposite side. She was very subdued. I did not like it, so I decided to take her to the animal hospital.

Dorie does not go in the car, since her jumping out of the window, while the car was going down the road, last fall. I put her in the car, and kept the windows closed, UNTIL she began to have diareah, all over my back seat! Imagine going down a highway, at 65 mph, and having a dog losing control of her bowels in the backseat..... OMG, it was disgusting. The only saving grace was that I have leather seats.....

We made it to the animal hospital, and I had to carry her in. In the twenty minute car drive she went downhill quickly. They took her in immediately, and gave me paper towels and a sanitizer to attempt to clean the back of the car.

My poor baby is in the doggie hospital. She has lyme disease. She had 105 degree temperature, and swollen inflamed joints. The had to put her on an IV to try to bring the temperature down. After they pushed the fluids into her, her heartbeat became irregular. They started her on antibiotics to attempt to fight the lyme disease, and that should work, since she is only one-year-old, she could not have had it for very long. Today a cardiologist will see her, after she has an echocardiogram and EKG. Lyme disease is very treatable. I found out that the vacination does not always work, and even though I put the flea and tick preventative on her, one of the suckers got through.

The animal hospital that she is at is tremendous, one of the best in the country. It is Tufts University, School for Vet Medicine. If all goes well today, I will be able to bring her home tonight. I can't believe that I did not purchase dog health insurance. It would have been worth the $600.00. Let's just say that I received an initial estimate of $2,000.00. I told them to do whatever they need to do to make sure that she is okay.

Anyway, that's my story.... At least I worked all of the overtime, it will cover my vet expenses.

How is everyone else doing?

Sophia

Good grief Sophia, on top of all these crazy hours you always have now you have to worry about your cute little puppy. I will keep my prayers with you and the puppy.

I am back at work this morning. I uploaded pictures yesterday to myspace, tried uploading some onto this website but for whatever reason it wouldn't work. I will try again later.

What is everyone up to today?

Oh sophia, I can relate. Well to some of it. My puppy threw up in our car, and she had diarhea for a few days. She seems back to "normal" now. Although still very much a puppy. She chews and barks and gets in the mud daily.

I'm glad to hear lyme is treatable, that is so scary!

And goodness gracious those hours are crazy! Please tell me you'll go back to 40 soon!

I got my house all cleaned up after the party and I am relaxing, well a bit today. I have a couple of appointments.

Poor sweet little puppy, Dorie. So happy, though, that Lymes is treatable. What a horror! Sending positive thoughts for you both.

It's a holiday here, so we're lounging around for now, then off to get some bbq foods as the gang, those left in town, are coming over for a family get-together later on.

Tony arrived safely in Sheboygan-ish, after an 18 hour drive via Sault Ste. Marie. Mike's weekend in Muskoka was cut short and he drove home last night. He has decided to stay on at U of T in his post-graduate programme and was offered a plum research assistant job in the Spanish department, teaching as well. We're greatly relieved!! Nick is still camping in Grand Bend but ought to make it back in time for dinner here.

Shelly, I'll check out myspace for your photos. I rarely visit there any more, but this should be well worth the stop by. I'll try watching Y&R live this morning at 11, report anything exciting.

Sore throat, that pretty much cancels my work day but with all the OT I've had, it's a semi-welcome break

Tony's not on holiday, just his wife and kids are staying at the cottage. He leaves for Houston Tuesday morning, hurricane there and all. After a week there, he heads to NYC, then back here for a few days, then he flies to Rochester, Minnesota, and hops on a puddle jumper to Sheboygan, Wisconsin at the end of the month. Then he gets to drive them all back home.

I'd seriously have to be institutionalised if I had his schedule. I honestly don't know how he does it, but he thrives on it. It helps that he really likes his work. He's travelling so much because he gives seminars on his new-fangled programming techniques.

Brandon, I woke up with a sore throat this morning too! Some kind of bug going around.

What kind of programming techniques? I am a programmer, well when I have the time to actually do that, verses design the system and basically be the secretary for my team of twelve.

Dorie is doing so much better! They are keeping her for another day at the hospital, but I was able to go and visit with her, and take her for a walk. That change with the antibiotics being in her system for 24 hours is amazing. She has not had a temperature since last evening, so things are definitely turning in the right direction. There has also been no sign of issues with her heart last evening, and today, so they decided to hold on the cardiologist, and just watch her. She will be on heavy duty antibiotics for the next month, and regular visits to the vet, but it is looking very good. We had a great hour together, and I didn't even mind leaving her, because I know that it is just to monitor her, and make sure that she is nice and stable. Goodness know's I would be a bundle of nerves, since I did not realize how sick she was. I will definitely be learning how to take a dog's temperature before we leave the hospital tomorrow.

Anyway, it was a normal day at work, I made sure, and actually left the office at 3:30.

I also have a sore throat.....

Sophia, I have NO idea what it is exactly that our sons' internet company does other than provide services, designs and administration for online brochures, domain names and the like.

Kids' Internet Company

The company was launched 10 years ago when Tony was still a kid in school. Now all 3 of our sons are working together, living quite comfortably, and pursuing other interests. While Tony does this work full time, Mike is still at school, working on yet another post-graduate degree and Nick is taking a break from his MBA to do the administrative work for Fieldco.com. What was once a hobby is now a full-blown business.

I wish I could be of more help.

Very cool! I just went out and checked out their site! I'll bet that they are Java pro's! I am always amazed at the creativity that goes into designing and maintaining web sites.

I am on the opposite side of the spectrum, I do all of the back-end stuff, where data that is entered is stored. I design and build systems to retrieve the data for front-end web based applications. Basically I design data storage applications and all the components to make the returning of the data instantaneous and seamless. For the most part the data is stored in databases, my technical job title is Data Architect. An example is that the system that I just designed all of the technical physical storage components, and wrote the technical specifications to move and load that data, has 2674 discrete groups of data. We move through 150+ tables, and have 187 computer programs, that run in mili-seconds. Oh, and we have roughly 250 million repeating occurrences of the 2674 data groups. The application I just designed, and managed the team that built it, is the most complex I have undertaken in my career. Have I put you to sleep yet?

Anyway, your son's business is VERY impressive, it is truly an incredible accomplishment to have a flourishing business in that industry, because there are many hacks out there, who have taken a few classes, and think that they are experts.

Wow!

I should have got into web design, I think I would have been good at it.

I could never decide what I really wanted to do "when I grow up", I'd talk myself out of a lot of things.

I did like photography

and think I'd be a great party planner.

How does anyone decide what to do?

well right now I'm a mom... I hope to find something that works with my schedule when Gabi is in school FT
