I just posted in the Monday thread, but thought that I ought to start one for Tuesday.
I spent the past week buried in genealogy research. It's something that I haven't really addressed much for many months, and I wanted to clear my head with a new focus, after having met the doll deadline. It's fairly pathetic, but once I'm on the trail of some ancestor, I can literally lose an entire day without even noticing. Last night, when I heard Jim's car, I opened the front door for him, and realized what a GORGEOUS day it had been all day. I hadn't lifted my nose from census reports all day, and I was really irritated that I'd missed such glorious weather.
I'm currently on the hunt for a second male cousin who can provide DNA for our line, and I'm having difficulty nailing down the right people. It looks like I'm going to have to start making some cold calls, and I always hesitate to do that. However, that's what finally connected me with the first cousin, so I guess it's inevitable, at this point. Hate to, though...
Our son is coming over for dinner tonight, and I have no idea what I'm going to fix for us. I guess I'd better start thinking about that!
Okay -- back to my search for Thornton Carter's parents! Maybe I'll take the laptop outside a little later, and soak up some sun. Apparently, we all need more Vitamin D!

Moore I wish I had your patience with regards to genealogy. I finally got started again on the heritage website but have had a hard time remembering dates and names. So my mom is sending me this book she did years ago (before the internet was so awesome) for her parents 50th anniversary. It is really detailed and I think once I fill all that info in I may get good results.
How did all the dolls go, I really give you kudos and wish I lived closer to you so you could help me with my sewing. I can sew but have a hard time remembering how to thread the darned needle. And I have a pattern all cut out and ready to be sewn together but the thought of doing it without guidance terrifies me.
I am at work again, just got an email from one of my bosses that she wants to meet all of us for lunch tomorrow. I am a little worried because work has seriously slowed down and we are all afraid they will tell us they don't need us anymore.
Anyways, here is a Tuesday funny for you guys.
A few days before his proctological exam, a one eyed man accidentally swallowed his glass eye. He was worried for a while, but there were no ill effects, so he forgot about it. Once he was in the doctor's office, the man followed instructions, undressed, and bent over. The first thing the proctologist saw when he looked up the man's arse was that eye staring right back at him. "You know, " said the doctor, "you really have to learn to trust me."
Shelly, Ancestry.com is a great place to do research, and there's also a site called GenForum.com that has message boards for the various surnames.
GenForum is a free site, and so is Ancestry to a point. I have a subscription to Ancestry for information that isn't free, like viewing actual census reports, and other stuff, so if you need me to check anything for you, let me know.
Some days I'm absolutely cross-eyed after having tried to sort through all of the names. There's also a lot of misinformation in the line I'm so focused on right now. I get excited when I see that someone has posted information on my guy, and then see that they've connected him with a line that isn't ours. Frustrating. Also the fact that there were a million Thomases, Williams, Johns, Richards, and Roberts in the same family, I tend to lose my place, after I've followed a couple of trails!
As for the sewing, just dive into it. Remember that it's always better to make something slightly too big than too small -- it's easier to fix. Also, you might want to baste your seams (by machine) if you're unsure. It seems like more work, but sometimes, in the long run, it's worth it!
I laughed over your issue with threading the needle. Years ago, I bought a serger, and I've never used it. They're SO complicated to thread that it intimidated me...
The dolls are now being displayed, and are in THREE cases. We thought that they would be in two. It was a crazy morning, and I don't have any pictures because the case wasn't hung until the following day, and I wasn't there for that. One of our club members, who lives near there, tried to take pictures a few days later, but there was too much reflection from the sun. We figure that the only way to get good pictures will be to take them at night, and I'm NOT driving all the way to Rockville to do that! LOL... However, I will tell you that -- once again -- the ladies really came through for the club and provided us with gorgeous dolls. Also, we thought that they were going to be displayed only through August, but they want to keep them up through September. YAY! The whole purpose of this is to attract new members, so I hope it works.
Shelly, I can't imagine that your boss would give anyone bad news over LUNCH! It's probably more of an organizational thing, a getting to know you thing, or a conversation about goals.
Speaking of that, though, our oldest daughter had a wretched day on Friday when SEVEN PEOPLE were let go from the ad agency. Several were friends of hers, and she fully expected to get the word -- especially since she'd only been there for a year. Fortunately, she escaped the axe, but it left everyone feeling very unnerved!
Our youngest daughter also had a bad day on Friday, although she had THOUGHT that it had been a good day until the woman whose little girl is the one our daughter looks after called to bitch about a petty issue. I haven't heard Arizona-daughter cry in YEARS, but she called us late Friday night in tears. So, neither of my daughters had a good Friday.

Good luck on the lunch thing, Shelly. I hope it turns out well for you either way it goes. Being bored at work is no fun at all!! What kind of work are you doing there?
Moore, again, good luck with the genealogy search. One of my cousins did a huge thing on my father's side a while back. That side of the family is pretty easy to track down as they mostly stayed put in Ontario after moving up here from the Finger Lakes region of NY back in the days of the UEL's. He says he traced us back to Denmark and France before coming to the Americas. Whenever one of those pesky census things gets plopped on me to answer, for the heritage space, I always fill in Viking. *snort*
Gorgeous day here too. Sun is shining, no rain, light breeze.
funny thing about Friday, the date was 08-08-08 (supposedly 8 is a "nice" number) and yet it was awful for us too. We had that funeral
Been busy. UPDATE on my life:
I had to send money in for Ryan's band camp and then if he wants to go to Disney with the band we have to cough up $900. My mom offered to pay for one third, Ryan will raise money with his fund raisers and I'll come up with one third, so not so bad when you look at it that way
I feel fat lately. But at least I slept better last night and have not eaten over much today. Sleep for me is the key
I'm still going to Alanon, in fact I've been running some meetings! Can you believe it. And they all just love my advice, even though we're not supposed to give advice!
Gabi has gymnastics tonight. Then it switches to a Thursday day time for Fall.
The puppy in nearly house trained, hurray for that. And she is getting bigger, digging, bringing in mud and sand and already sheds! But she is very lovable.
I do have to wash the floors every other day, so that is also why I am not online as much
I am waiting on buying school clothes until I see some major sales. I've cut back my spending alot this year. I shop resale shops more often.
I've been buying tons of used books, only 89 cents for paperback! I love, love, love to read. I did want that Amazon Kindle, but it's out of my price range right now.
Wow, Tina, you have been busy!! As for the Amazon Kindle, it intrigues me. I love to read too, and I have bought a ton of books lately. But, I don't think I would go for the Kindle, because I just absolutely love the feel of a book in my hand, and I love the smell of the the pages. It sounds weird, yes, but I just like to hold the book.
Moore, I've thought many, many times about researching my ancestry. However, I do not have any family members who are interested in it, as I've inquired as to who would be interested. I'm just worried about getting into it all alone.
Shelly, let us know how the lunch goes! I'm sure it's fine.
We've had some pretty gorgeous days here lately. However, there's a firework/pyrotechnics convention in town, and it's BOOM BOOM BOOM all the time. Uggh. It's driving me batty. It sounds like we're a city at war.
Jojo, don't be afraid to begin a search. Frankly, it's better to start now while you still have family around to clarify information that might be confusing, or who can give some additional clues. Those clues might not mean anything at first, but they will down the road. Trust me...!!! It's amazing how small a detail can make a difference.
You might also be surprised at how many people might also be researching your line.
Again -- I have access to stuff, so if you need something checked (like a census), just let me know.

Jojo, in regards to the family tree, just get it started on Ancestry.com and add a little as you find the time. Type up what you know for sure, it's a great thing to pass on to your son.
Gradually get more information from family members, get records like death certs and it will add a branch here and there.
the great thing about ancestry (and other sites I"m sure) is that if anyone else like say a 4th cousin was working on a branch, it will flash a little leaf at you and you can connect that to your tree
I discovered alot of info for my father in law that way! He then got in touch with a half brother he hadn't talked to in ages.
