Wednesday

This morning started kind of abruptly by the doorbell ringing at 7 - the taxi I ordered for Ted to take him to the airport for his 8 o'clock flight to Ottawa arrived and we were still in bed. Now at a quarter past eight, I haven't heard anything from Ted, so I have to assume that he miraculously made the flight. We're usually up long before that, so it was a bit of, literally, a rude awakening. I've downed my coffee, opened the windows, let the doggies out for a pee, emptied the dishwasher, switched over the laundry, read the paper, done my crossword puzzles and contemplated the tasks I ought to accomplish today. I really just want to crawl back into bed.

What's on the agenda for this lovely morning? It's sunny and cool today here in Toronto.

Go ahead, and crawl back into bed! You've already accomplished enough!!! Or, you could fix yourself a cup of tea, take the doggies outside, and sit in a nice spot with your tea and a good book.

It's gorgeous here today too. I'm beginning to sniff a little fall in the air, even though we're still having hot days.

We broke in a new grill last night, and I LOVE it. We've had gas grills for many years now, and I'd had my eye on getting a new stainless steel grill, but after reading a lot of reviews, and after having missed charcoal a bit over the years, we decided to get the best of both worlds. So, we bought a Weber charcoal grill that has a small propane canister attached, with a quick-start button. It worked like a charm! It also has a nice ash pit for easy cleaning, a special container to store bags of charcoal, and it has a nice work surface. Our son came over for dinner last night, so we threw on a couple of flank steaks, and used wood chips for extra flavor. They were DELICIOUS! More smoke than I could get with the gas grill. Our son has recently become interested in grilling, and because the grill he and his roommates have been using is definitely on its last legs, we ordered one of these same grills for him too...

By the way, I tend to forget that these kinds of products can be had on Amazon, which is where we bought ours. I was all set to order the Weber from Home Depot, but their delivery fee was going to be $108.00!!! I did a search, and Amazon popped up. When I ordered ours, the grill itself was a bit more discounted than it is now (by $40.00 additional dollars). I ordered the cover at the same time, and the delivery for both was $53.00. That's a huge difference from what Home Depot was going to charge me just for delivery of the grill, and I suspect that the "delivery fee" was an attempt to make up for the "discount"...

Jim is heading down to North Carolina today, and I'm going to follow tomorrow. We'll be back home on Saturday.

(Apparently don't understand the concept of plurals this morning. Coffee hasn't kicked in!)

So I have my bulletin board in my head. I am going to go to the dollar store and try and find some kind of wrapping paper with the colors I am looking for. I am thinking of purple and red because of that image of the red hats. And I have several of the women in our church writing small paragraphs about a woman they considered their mentors. I have 3 spiritual women at our church, I have a school teacher, a nurse, a vet and a successful real estate agent i.e career woman. I figure all of these women are in positions where someone else might think of them as career women. And I am going to type these paragraphs up in a script like font and print them out on some kind of fun paper, then glue them onto different colored construction papers. Then staple them to the boards with our verse in the middle.

The verse:Titus 2:3-5 3 the older women likewise, that they be reverent in behavior, not slanderers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things 4 that they admonish the young women to love their husbands, to love their children, 5 to be discreet, chaste, homemakers, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God may not be blasphemed.

I think I will cut out verse three though just because this is a long verse. And I have to make it big enough so people can read it.

And then I thought I might actually ask all the ladies to write something about their mentors and I print them out, glue them to the paper and laminate them. Then I will scatter them onto the tables. Cause I have to decorate the tables too. I wish I could get some red hat confetti to put on the tables too.

Phew that was a lot. Sorry I didn't use your ideas Moore. But I am not nearly as talented with my hands as you are.

Vinnie gets home tonight. I am happy about that. He leaves for 3 months in November and I really want to try and get pregnant before he leaves. So pray for me on that one.

And Kae, I agree with Moore. Go back to bed, I mean why not right? Moore I am glad to hear you liked your grill. Sounds like a nice one. That steak sounds really good.

Oh, what do you guys think of seafood salad on some kind of a pumpernickel bread? Does that sound good or no?

Cut my hair last night, so it's Nash short. Hope that describes it well enough.

Anyways, have an interview today (as far work knows it's an appointment) for a supervisor/lead position that's just up the road from where I currently live. I really really would love to get this one. Prayers, etc are more then welcome :)

Moore, internet pricing and shipping is insane sometimes. Crazy crazy how wide and varied those prices can be when you go to different places. I remember I got a better deal when I was shopping for anime at one store but shipping made it way more, so I went to my regular place.

Weber really does make some of the best grills out there. I miss that charcoal flavour too, but the time spent waiting for the perfect temperature and all... Our next door neighbour put on an addition last year and in doing so, covered up their natural gas connection for their bbq. Rather than do something about it, they've reverted to using a charcoal grill and the fragrance that wafts over the hedge is very, very tempting. When can I come for dinner at your house, Moore?

BTW, after Ted blew up our old bbq back in February and I was on the market for a new one, I located a Weber stainless at Home Depot. I ended up buying a "Perfect Flame" from Lowes - their in house brand, that is apparently made by Broil King. They assembled it for "free" but would have charged $25 for delivery. Ted picked it up in that awful minivan of his and then we had a gas guy come to hook it up to our natural gas line, so no more fiddling around with propane tanks.

There's an autumn nip here too, but I refuse to acknowledge it, lol. Some of the maples are beginning to...NO, NO!!! Denial, denial.

Why the trip to NC, Moore? Are you driving? Is it daughter related?

Its starting to get chilly here and I am very upset about it. I am actually as we speak wearing a sweater. Of course the back window in my isuzu is broken so that makes it colder. Poor Jolene had a blanket on this morning when I was taking her to school.

Good luck Brandon. Prayers are coming your way

Need a picture, Bran. (Oh, Nash - I miss the soap that was so good back then. Remember HHH?)

Also, positive energy is winging its way to you for that job. I have a feeling you'll get this one.

Good luck Bran (with the job) and Shelly (with the pregnancy).

Sometimes I wonder if anyone actually reads the posts here or just skima over,

Nobody said a thing to Shelly about trying to get pregnant.

Yep, need a picture Bran!

Shelly, your bulletin board is going to be awesome, and I think that it sounds far more creative, and on point, than any of my ideas were! Take a picture of it so that we can see the end result. And, thank heaven for dollar stores! I used to inhabit those stores back when my kids had birthdays, and needed stuff for their loot bags.

KaeEll, the beauty of this grill is that it has a gas jet that infuses the charcoal with flame (no need for any kind of lighter fluid), so within just a few minutes the charcoal has that nice ashen appearance, and red glow. Then, you turn off the propane, and continue as though you normally would with a charcoal grill. Also, there are two baskets that the charcoal goes into so instead of raking coal around the grill, you just move the baskets around for indirect heat, etc.

Jim is heading down to North Carolina to give a little talk, and although it isn't daughter related, we're going to be catching up with the child and her boyfriend! LOL... Jim is having dinner with her tonight, and then she and Loren are joining us again tomorrow night for dinner at the Inn where we'll be staying, along with anywhere from four to six other people. Don't quite know yet!

It's gorgeous weather for Jim's drive today, and I imagine he'll put his top down. Theoretically, I'm supposed to have similar weather tomorrow. We'll see...

Oh yes -- KaeEll -- I have a little steak left over, and am glad to share it with you!

Weber grill

When we bought this, Amazon was selling it for $250.00. The price is back up again, a little bit.

Thanks Moore. It took me a while to get my creative mind working but I think this will be nice. I need to find some of that Christmas garland stuff in like a deep blue or purple. I think it would be nice as a border on my board.

That is a nice grill. I hope you have a nice time in NC. I have only been there a handful of times and that was mainly just to Jacksonville. Not a lot to see in that town but a bunch of Marines. I really want to see the Biltmore Estates. It is high on my to see list. Have a safe trip and let us know about Jim's talk.

Oh, right, the cinema talk. Forgive my sieve brain, Moore. Have a grand time! That should be fun for all of you!!

And I want one of those grills. It doesn't sound like something Ted could tinker with too much and bring the fire department to our house again. Mind you, if the Houston fire department could come..... . (Shelly sent me some lovely pictures of those fellas down there, all topless and wet, lol.)

Yes, Shelly, please post a pic when you're done with the bulletin board. Congratulations on solving the problem so beautifully.

Actually Shelly mentioned that to me awhile ago, so I didn't mention that. LOL

What did I mention?

Shelly, the shrimp and pumpernickel sounds delicious!

Jim just left. Top UP (gets better mileage that way), and I'm always blue when he leaves. Silly since I'm joining him tomorrow.

I don't know how you deal with separations on a constant basis, Shelly. It must be so difficult, even when it's relatively brief. (And, we're all keeping our fingers crossed for you!)

Lucy (the dog) is going to be very upset with me when she realizes later this afternoon that she's going to be boarded again...

I think mentioned about wanting more kids/getting pregnant awhile back. If not I got you confused with somebody else.

Yeah, I think at this point I have mentioned it to everyone. I feel bad because a good friend of mine at church just let us know last week that she is pregnant and while I was happy for her I was silently a little jealous
