Jojo, so sorry about the unpleasant girls at the office. I worked in an office once and had a very similar experience, didn't handle it well at all, but I was pregnant with my first so when I took mat leave, it ended. Nothing was ever resolved as I didn't go back there and returned to teaching. Office cliques are terrible and can badly affect productivity. Hope the boss has the wisdom to straighten this out as my boss certainly did not.
We cancelled brunch. I made the mistake last night of testing the ruined pie while it was still piping hot and had the worst stomach ache and I was up until 5. I am so relieved not be chained to the stove right now cooking. Even my little mother couldn't get out of bed this morning as Tony and his wife were going to take her to the 11 o'clock church service with them, special treat for her.
I'm so sorry about your stomach ache, KaeEll. There's nothing worse than being kept awake all night long with something like that. You "wake up" exhausted, even before the day begins. It was a good choice to cancel the brunch... Take it easy, and feel better.

Well everyone loved the doilies. In the end we only had 11 of them. I have asked the ladies over the last few weeks to give me their information regarding a mentor and only got 8 responses. The extra ones were because some of them had more then one mentor.
But it went over well enough that my ministers wife asked if we could staple them to the bulletin board I made so that ladies who weren't able to make it today could read them in the weeks to come.
Now after the lunch is over I am beyond slightly tired and am off to napland. Will tty ladies later
I'm exactly like your daughter Moore. However, I will now be more cognizant of what I say, and I will tread more carefully and not be as trusting of these "friendships." I would never retaliate or be petty, as that would just get me into more trouble, and it wouldnt be very grown-up of me. I will be professional at all times. And part of my adjustment here, is that I come from a working environment where my coworkers and I were brutally honest and engaged in serious, heated conversations every day. It was a newspaper. Reporters are a different breed of folks, and I've had a hard time adjusting that state of mind in this very different, much smaller, office setting.
Kae, my bosses are quite reasonable, I believe, and will work with all of us to resolve the issue. I do hope that is the case. And so sorry about the tummy ache!
Oh, jojo -- my husband worked for a newspaper when he was still in college, and I know exactly what you mean. Well, I know as far as what he's told me, but haven't experienced it myself. Cursing was prevalent! LOL... I did meet his boss once, way back then, and he was right out of Central Casting; a gruff guy with a short fuse.
My daughter tends to be one who wants to put her feelings right out there in the open too, and she needs to realize that this doesn't always work with everyone! Tact counts... Again, I've been trying to teach this lesson since she was about two years old.
*bangs head against the wall for a moment, just for old times' sake*
It will work out, jojo, and I know that you will always be professional. The thing is that each office is SO different, each with its own atmosphere and dynamics, that changing jobs can bring a whole new challenge.
I've been out of the working world for a long time (always intended to go back, but didn't ever quite get there...), but I remember it well. Hang in there!

We don't always think about the cultural differences of different corporate organisations any more than we often have to deal with vast cultural differences amongst people from other parts of he world. I have one very close friend who was born and raised in India and was in boarding schools for most of her childhood there, as was the custom at the time. When this wonderful lady interacts with my good old North American bred and born friends, there is sometimes a mixed reaction. I would imagine that it's much the same for you, Jojo, going from an environment where opinions were the stock in trade (journalism) to the much more straightforward business of insurance.
You'll get through this, I'm sure. You have always shown your tact when needed, and your frankness when appropriate. You have the right instincts, and even though we've only known one another in cyberland for a few years, I have never once doubted that your better judgment prevailed.
Wow .. hectic weekends! My good friend Veronica was in Louisiana during Gustav. They didn't mandatorily evacuate her parish and her father has Lupus, so it was actually a bit easier for them to stay even though that sounds insane. She posted a number of videos. It wasn't too bad where she was luckily but she sure had us all super worried!
