The Fender-Bender (update)

A few minutes ago, the Progressive agent called to say that they were going to accept liability for Jim's accident! This was about twenty minutes after I had sent him an email, explaining that we had pulled our bank records, and our shopping history back to November of 2007.

Ironically, he hadn't seen my email yet, but had concluded on his own that we were telling the more credible story, and that his client, in all likelihood, was full of sh*t!! Well, he didn't use those words exactly, but that's what he meant.

So, YAY!

Sometimes it DOES work out that way, and I'm very happy that Progressive came to that conclusion before we all had to go to war!

It's so funny, though, because Jim and I had to go to a lot of trouble to get those wretched records from Harris Teeter (faxed permission forms back and forth, photocopied picture IDs, etc., etc.), and finally received them earlier today. In the meantime, Progressive had made its decision! LOL...

Doesn't matter! At least it's all over with, and any further drama was unnecessary. We'll both sleep better tonight! Oh yeah, not to be mean or anything, but I hope that lying truck driver's rates go up!! Not to be bitter or anything.

(I hate finding typos hours after I posted something!)

Yeah I know his baby is still wrecked, but it must make it easier for Jim to take it knowing that he doesn't have to fight this anymore

Thanks everyone! Yes, it was definitely a relief to go to bed last night, knowing that this issue wasn't going to be hovering over our heads again today.

Here's the thing about telling a lie -- it's inevitable that the story is going to become more and more convoluted, and therefore less believable, as the liar tries to think up answers for perfectly plausible questions, along the way. Sooner or later, it all falls apart! The truth is simple and direct, and stands on its own. No worries...

Now this ice cream truck driver knows that WE know he's a liar, and so does his insurance agent. All of his pleasantries at the scene have become meaningless, and his stature as a man of integrity is gone. I will NEVER understand why people do this when it's so simple to just tell the truth. All the time!

So, it's Friday, and I'm debating whether or not to go down to Staunton, VA tomorrow afternoon, and stay overnight. Staunton is where my former boarding school is located, and there's a memorial service on Sunday for my history teacher, an icon of the school. Ann Barron Carroll. Isn't that a beautiful name? She was 87 years old, and had been in very poor health for a little over a year. Our former headmistress, Martha Dabney Jones (another pretty name), is still alive, and at the age of 96 is still tutoring people on a regular basis in Charlottesville, where she's lived for many years. I saw her at my class reunion a year ago, and she still looks perfectly spry to me!! The loss of Miss Carroll is truly a sad one; she was an amazing teacher. I have to say, though, that when the inevitable day comes with news of Miss Jones' passing, it's going to be the end of a very precious era for me, and will be a death that I'll mourn very deeply.

Jim wants me to go, so I'm going to see if the beautiful inn one block down the street from the school has any room. I think that my former roommate is going (this is the roommate who is runner Alan Webb's mom), but don't know if she's going down tomorrow for an overnight, or if she's driving down early Sunday morning.

I think I'll call the inn...

Thanks again for all of the moral support throughout this little fender-bender drama! It really helped. I imagine that we're ALL glad that another Friday has arrived!

I think you should definitely go. I mean if you don't you may regret it, but you will never regret going.

Okay, I did it. (Jim isn't going with me, but will stay behind with Lucy...)

I just LOVE the people down there! The inn looks small at first, and there ARE a limited number of rooms in the main house (all beautiful), but there are other buildings attached to it, as well as some smaller individual houses behind the main part of the inn.

So, when I called for my single room, I asked if I would be in the main house (my favorite). I was told that I was being put in a different building because there were four ladies who would be spending the weekend in the main house, and planned to be NOISY! LOL... It's apparently going to be a BFF bonding weekend! (Sounds fun).

Anyway, for no apparent reason, Dawn decided to upgrade me to a suite, at the same rate as the single room! Just because...

As I said, I love these people! If I ever move away from the Washington, DC area, it's going to be to Staunton.

The stay at the inn will be nice, and seeing everyone at the school will be nice (and hopefully Miss Jones will be coming -- I need to seize every opportunity to see her), but the occasion will be sad...

Miss Carroll made me love history.

Aw, Moore, that sounds lovely. Have a wonderful time. Noisy ladies - love it,lol.

History teaching should only be done by those who truly love it and know how to tell a great story, because that's all that history is - the stories of our past and how the people made the decisions they did. I hated history for the longest time because I kept getting Mr. Watson, whose idea of teaching high school history was writing on all 8 blackboards copious notes. Then in grade 12 I got (finally) a fantastic guy teaching us and he would stand at the front of the classroom telling us these amazing stories about the past. We were all sitting perfectly still, spellbound by his recounts, and he (smart guy that he was) never left out gory, sexy details. I don't know if you get The Tudors on tv there, but this teacher made that series on tv look very tame indeed!!

Oops, time to go get my mom.

I really love history, though I don't think that I appreciated it enough in school. Probably because when you have to memorize the dates it takes the fun out of learning about the people in our past. My first year of college I took a Women's History class and I was completely enamored with the way our teacher taught the class.

I am still looking to catch a military history class. Vinnie is taking art history and it is super boring

Moore, have a nice trip this weekend. I'm sorry to hear it's for such a sad occasion though. Many fuzzies for you.
