Monday....again

Well here we are into another week as the weather begins to get cool already. It was in the 40's this morning.

So about the bunk beds. I think I may have decided that it might be cheaper to let Jolene keep her bed since its one of those that you can put a full size mattress in and buy another crib? What do you guys think? It would be cheaper I think. And with all the baby stuff we have to get cheaper is good.

Anyways, I have a bit of catching up to do. Last week I was running around trying to get the right tests done so that I can get in to see a doctor. We are looking at a nice spring baby. May 16th ish.

I need to find my old name book. Vinnie wants to name a girl Sydney Lynn which I guess is cute. Takes us out of the J thing though which I guess is probably a good thing.

Is her current bed a crib that can hold a full-sized mattress, or a bed-bed? I'm not sure I understand...

Is there anyone nearby who can loan you a crib for a couple of years?

I know it's really tough to have to invest so much in baby stuff when you know that it's all going to be retired within a short period of time.

I just had a bizarre thought, and did a quick check for you. You might want to consider getting Jolene a sleep sofa for her room. That's something that you could use later on, not in a bedroom, but for when you might need to accommodate guests. In the meantime, it could be her bed. I just found one at Sam's club for a little over $500.00, and it's queen sized.

Sofa bed, queen.

There are some others for even less. There's one for $300-something...

Yeah her crib is one of these 3 in 1. Right now it looks like a little day bed. It still has her crib mattress in it. Which if we buy another crib we won't need to buy a new mattress, we just need to buy a full size mattress. And we can get another 3-1 crib at wally world for relatively cheap. Then if we decide that 2 is enough we can convert that to a full size. Nothing wrong with a small child having a bigger bed. I look forward to Jolene having a bigger bed because then I can lay in it and read with her. Instead of on the rocker next to her bed.

We already have a cherry color changing table that is still in great shape so I am hoping for a crib that is the same way.

The sofa bed is a good idea, though I think a Futon would work too

Oh, yeah! Those snuggle-up-in-bed-with-a-book occasions are really precious ones. I miss them. It's also much better for singing lullabies.

Congrats Shelly!!!!!!!

I wan't online much this weekend. Friday I talked to my mom and found out .. wati maybe it was Thursday.. anywho days all run together for me right now. Anywho I called my mom so we coul dmeet up for dinner that night. The first the she mentioned was that she thought our good family friends' son had passed away in an accident at work. I thought that was a little weird because she mentioned work, and he's in the army, In fact he's in Germany right now, so it seemed weird. But then I figured that maybe he was in Iraq and I was just confused about where he should be, and something bad happened while there. I know this sounds terrible, but in thinking it was his son it was a little less shocking because well, he is in the military and if he was in a place like Iraq while it was soo sad it made sense. OMG anyways I'm babbling.

My dad called and talked to my hsuband while i was on the phone with my mom and told him it wasn't Doug's son it was Doug. He apparently had an accident with the scissor lift at workand i am not sure how but they said he was pinned and died as a result. My family's so upset because we are really close to the Wells family. My dad was in the same class as Doug's brother Dave, his mom Wilma is the sweetest woman in the world and when I was a little girl if we saw them while we were out I'd ditch my fam and run to Wilma and them, his daughter was one of "my freshmen" lol gotta love initiation week in high school... they are just the sweetest kindest people and it's so heartbreaking. So now not only does his wife Brenda have to worry about her son all the time she has also lost her husband. It was so sad. I was going to go to the funeral and do Borrowed Angels, but 1 I didn't think I really could and 2. I didn't want to take my kids because I really didn't have anyone to watch them Saturday.

I am the first to admit that I don't handle funerals well. I don't cry. I do however bedome a bit reserved, extra guarded, and kinda bitchy if I have to go to one. Guess it's kinda just how I deal. Soo yeah ..

Oh I'm getting a bunch of crafty stuff and making crafts with the kids tomorrow yay lol.

Oh what a horrible way to die, not that there is really a nice way to go but my goodness. My prayers are with you Jess and with this mans family. The good news is that her son should be able to come home. It might even excuse him from going to war. It would be good for her to have him home.

And thanks about the futon, don't know how it would work but I think it might

Oh, Jess, how horrible, I'm so sorry. Shelly's right about the son coming home. I hope it works out that way for the family.

Shelly, we have had so-so luck with futons. If you spend a good whack of money on one, it can be just wonderful, but by the same token, you could buy a good bed for that too. Much depends upon the amount of space you have to deal with. Right now, we have a fairly good quality one (left over from one of the many ins and outs of sons, that we've hauled out for the odd sleepover, no complaints. But Nick had one in his room for a sofa/sleepover bed for five years or so from Ikea, and we recently threw the whole thing in the garbage. Sometimes we really do get what we pay for.

At least with a good bed you know what to expect. I weaned Ted a long time ago from putting in his two cents re decorating, thank goodness, or we'd still be using bricks and boards for tables and shelves. He still holds out some hope as he won't get rid of some bed slats from a Shaker bed his grandfather built a hundred years ago. Men, sometimes, eh?

I think this bunk bed will be pretty nice.. top bed is a regular twin bed and the bottom is a futon. I think it'll be good for Cody because he hates regular bed clothes and such .. if not oh well. We got a monster of a deal on it at shop-ko

And thanks for the well wishes guys. The red cross got his son home the next day. Very amazing :)

I didn't ask how long he'd be home though. That that'd be a bit uncouth.

Jess, I'm so sorry about the death. It seems that we've had a lot of this on the board lately. I do hope that your friend's son will be able to come home, but how sad that his dad won't be here to see his son return.

By the way, KaeEll, I'm glad that you realized the issue with the down in your new upholstery, and are going to get that fixed. I swear that you have to watch EVERYONE every single minute these days!

Shelly, if I'm allowed to cast a vote, I would go with a double bed for Jolene. It may be more expensive, but it will be a permanent piece of furniture in your household forever! She can take it with her when she sets up her own first apartment one day, or you can keep it as a bed for a guest room, or you can pass it down to little Sydney Lynn (such a cute name).

I'm making this suggestion because of our own experience with juggling beds and cribs with our three. When our son had to be moved from "THE" crib to a bed, in order to make room for A-D, we bought a single bed from Ikea that was really more of a futon-type bed in that it didn't have any box springs, but just a thin mattress on wood slats. The frame itself was nice and solid, and very bed-like. Unfortunately, his three-year-old self didn't stay three for very long, so within a few years, he needed a regular bed! (I gave the Ikea bed to our godson who is A-D's age.) Since it was very apparent early on that our son was going to be a big guy (and he IS, hovering somewhere around 6'-3"), we bought a beautiful queen-sized four poster bed (on sale), and have never regretted it! He was only about six years old when he began sleeping in what seemed like a massive bed. LOL...

If you shop carefully, you can probably find a very nice bed for a good price (look for sales). Don't make the mistake of getting the typical princess-style bed that will lock her into an age category though! You'll regret anything pink or white-and-gold. You can always princess things up with sheets, and other accessories.

Another VERY affordable option is just to buy a mattress set for a double bed (again, on sale), and the simple metal frame that they usually come with. Then, you can create your own headboard, and cover the metal frame with a frilly dust ruffle!

Just my suggestion, having had two girls and a boy.

Yeah, we can actually get a captains full size bed. That has drawers on it. Which saving space in the military life is key
