Yesterday afternoon I received an email from on of the members of our church about putting together a group prayer for one of the older gentlemen at our church. This man in the last month or so has been in the hospital because his red blood counts were extremely low and the doctors couldn't figure out what was causing them. Well last week they went in and removed his spleen, I have zero medical knowledge so I don't know what benefit that might have done, I do know that they were worried because with such a low blood count infections could kill him. Well yesterday they said he had pneumonia and that his lungs had water in them *or something of that nature* they said the next 24 hours would be critical to him surviving. So last night, the 2 elders at our church as well as our minister and several other members got together to pray for him. Some of us said we were selfish and that we didn't want him to go. Others said they understood either way. I guess he had told one of our elders that he was ready to go. Anyways, at around 8 last night he died. This was about an hour after our little prayer circle.
So I just want to ask for prayers for this mans family, his poor wife and all of his kids
Oh, I'm so sorry to hear such a sad story. What a terrible time for his family. Of course, I'll send up prayers...
Shelly, I have no idea why they might have removed his spleen, but it's possible that there was "leakage" from it. I have a doll club friend, an elderly lady who hasn't been able to come to the meetings for a couple of years now, and is in a retirement facility. She's been in and out of the hospital for ongoing internal bleeding that isn't profound, but that is persistent, and can't be totally arrested. Just a guess.

I just got an email, they are actually doing an autopsy today.
He was a funny guy. He would sometimes lead singing, and he was so horribly off tune but it was great anyways. He was one of those guys that it was amusing and he knew it. Its hard to believe how fast it all went.
I get paid tonight, I think I will send his wife flowers tomorrow
That's very sweet of you to think of the flowers, Shelly. Just be careful about who you use! (Remember my recent experience?!)
You might also consider baking a couple of loaves of a quick batter bread that his wife can offer to family, or to friends and neighbors who will be stopping by. Banana breads, cranberry breads, etc., etc., are versatile since they can be used for breakfast, for afternoon snacks, or even for an easy dessert when paired with a little ice cream. They also keep well, and don't take up fridge space.
Just a suggestion that might be less expensive for you, and more practical for her, in the long run. You could always get a little fresh bouquet of daisies to take too. That way, you'd be able to check their freshness yourself, and it would be much less expensive too.
Oh, I meant to say that I'm glad they're doing an autopsy. It won't bring this nice man back, but at least it may give his family some answers.

I am not much of a baker. And we already have so many women at our church who i just know are going to be giving food. i would hate for her to have all this food
Yeah the autopsy is good, I hope they find out why/where he was bleeding
LOL... I understand what you mean, Shelly. When I was in the hospital, fighting for my life many years ago, Jim told me that so many friends and neighbors had come with food that he was afraid to open the refrigerator door, for fear of being killed by a falling dish!
A former college roommate (my Canadian-now-American friend in Baltimore) brought an entire turkey!
