We can all rent a massive houseboat together, and float around the Canadian lakes until things calm down. That, or pool our savings, and BUY some solid bargain stocks and/or some property!

Courtesy of what's happening to our southern neighbours, our economy is suffering a little. Housing prices dipped some and many automotive plants have been laying off hundreds in the trucking and SUV divisions. Otherwise, we're doing quite well. Today, I almost visited the model suite downtown for a new $30 million 9000 square foot condo. So somebody is doing well, lol.
Up here, that mortgage disaster could absolutely never have happened. Our banks and lending institutions are far more regulated and people must qualify on many levels for a loan. It's really a very different system. But, as you know, we pay far more income tax here, have a much wider social safety net and universal health coverage. And our government doesn't contemplate bailing out greedy guts who soak the system to line their own pockets then get all pissy when the bottom falls out.
Having lived in both the USA and here, I can say with confidence that although we share a language (not spelling, lol) it's about as similar here to the USA as Paraguay is to France.
Come for a visit any time and see for yourself! There are more and more Americans immigrating here now, almost as many as there were during the Viet Nam business. I love the USA, many relatives and friends are there, my sons are dual citizens, my husband is from Wichita. I'm just an observer.
Kae, I am telling you. Your neck of the woods is very high on my list. I just need a passport and the hubby needs some time off...Maybe after the new baby
Soon enough I'll have 2 empty bedrooms again, plus a sofa bed in the family room and a futon stashed under the stairs, so welcome! (We'll pull the futon out for ya, lol.)
We're not immune to some of the unfortunate things you guys have to endure at the moment, but we are a little removed, thank goodness!!
We're glad to be able to provide you with a little escape from the madness. Haha, I just learned that we have a nude beach here in town. Does that entice you any more? *snort* After circulating Moore's hilarious "websites that need a little more thought", a friend, who is gay, has renamed that nude beach "Pen Island". But no, he doesn't frequent it.
