I borrowed this from my friend Superposter, I am very annoyed by this
NY Daily News columnist Carolyn Hinsey has confirmed news many were not wanting to hear. Rebecca Budig (Greenlee) has opted to leave All My Children when her one-year deal expires in January.
ABC Daytime president Brian Frons moved heaven (and Sabine Singh) to bring back the brunette beauty but loyalty wasn't enough to keep her. The distance between her and husband Bob Guiney was a strain as was the lack of a compelling storyline. A controversial ad campain trumpetting her return also did no one favors.
The story of Rebecca's return/Sabine's firing unfolded here. All My Children Fan Space had the inside scoop from the get-go (thanks to Amy, Sabine's fan club president, and Janine) and the faithful were kept up to speed. You will recall that feelings were split down the middle -- Rebecca had her staunch supporters and rightfully so, while Sabine had legions of fans who preferred her take on the character.
Despite the controversy of ABC's "Real Greenlee" ad campaign and the way the return came about, much was forgiven and forgotten as Rebecca eased back into the role she created. It was like she had never left.
Further, Rebecca gained fans with the well-received Q&A she chose to give All My Children Fan Space exclusively . She revealed a side to her that not all were aware of -- she is as sweet and adorable as Greenlee is narcissistic. And, for many Sabine fans they found their fondness for the character grew under Sabine and continued to with Rebecca back.
Now? Many will view this with a variety of emotions -- anger, skepticism, distrust, and more. In the end, though, this is a business and Rebecca has choices she has to make that are best for her and her family. But as viewers, and like with a divorce, we are the ones left behind picking up the pieces and wondering "what just happened??
I always liked Rebecca Budig, and was really happy to see her return. I know I may be in the minority, but I loved the spoiled, snarky, selfish side of this character. I think she's a wonderful actress, and really established who the character is supposed to be.
Having said that, I was appalled by the "Real Greenlee" campaign, and thought it was BEYOND poor taste; it was nothing less than insulting to Sabine. And speaking of Sabine, I liked her, but her version of Greenlee was so diametrically different from the one I was used to seeing, that it threw me a bit, and she just never felt like "Greenlee" to me. If she'd come onto AMC as another character, I'm sure that I would have been perfectly happy with her. Either way, she didn't deserve to be treated the way that she was! Disgusting...
Now, it appears that RB is going to leave. Of course, it's been said from the beginning that she might not stay beyond a year, but why put everyone through this? I just hate this revolving door with actors. Look at Cady McClain! Drives me nuts...
