Friday

All my usual Friday backs and forths are OFF for today after spending a horrible night being miserably sick and feeling really punked today. I'm staying home with my blankie and cups of tea, and maybe, if I think it'll stay down, a piece of toast. I'll tell ya', the bugs that little kids bring home from school to the family are the worst!

Mike leaves for Auckland tomorrow morning. Now, he's planning on returning to Canada mid December for a music tour with his band, 10 cities in 12 days, mostly down east and Quebec, with one stop in Lindsay, Ontario before heading back here for Christmas. So many changes, lol. Ted and I thought there for a while that it would be just 4 of us for Christmas (my parents) but now it looks like Nick will be the only one missing.

I had an interesting conversation with Tony yesterday. In discussing his line of work, he told me that the main reason he has been travelling so much is that he is among the top 5 people on the PLANET in his specialty field of content management and he's in pretty high demand. I knew he was doing well, but THAT well? OMG, I am beyond awe-struck. (Okay, no more boasting about kids for the day.)

So what's up today, folks?

Kae you can boast all you like, that is awesome. Top 5 wow, that's amazing. I guess that makes it easier to swallow his travels a little more huh. I am glad that your Christmas seems to be getting bigger. We are not sure what we are up to this year. I am going to VA. I am having a tough time with it though because I don't really want to do the whole 10 hour drive this time. But if I took a train I would be car-less while I was there. I use to have a friend at Fort Meade that would let us stay with her that night so I could split the trip but the dreadful Army has moved them. Still not sure what to do. I will be there for the whole week though because Pfizer will be just about shut down except a few workers here and there.

I can't believe turkey day is only a few weeks away. I am excited though because my sister and friend Rachel are coming up and we are headed up to Boston. I know we are nuts but we are spending the holiday at the Cheers Bar and doing the tourism thing. Odd but last year we spent Christmas at Williamsburg and each had a bowl of Chili. So our new tradition is to be nontraditional. And I found us a room at a Hilton Garden Suites or whatever for only 79 bucks. Thats a good deal. You can't always get a Days Inn for that cheap

So Kae I am sorry that you are stuck home. You should run a nice bubble bath.

Moore I just saw a post of that Bianca persons that you edited. That makes me smile

KaeEll, I am SO sorry that you're still so sick, but you are wise to take it easy today, and not do anything but try to recover. No guilt!! Sleep, take meds, drink tea, and sleep some more.

That is very impressive about Tony, and you SHOULD be proud. And hey -- brag away. We're all here to celebrate with you! That's just wonderful...

Shelly, I don't blame you for not wanting to make that long drive to VA this time. It's wearying enough under normal circumstances, but when you're pregnant, it's not a lot of fun.

Not much on for today. I'm still recovering from the big doll push earlier this week; it has been a busy several months with the club with those elevator cases, then the open house, and now the tree. I'm tired, and am glad to have a bit of a break from deadlines. I have a christening to go to on Sunday, and Jim is headed down to North Carolina Sunday afternoon, but will return Monday night. Other than that, I'm reading The Shack which has been very good so far...

Shelly, I would definitely take the train. I know it's a bit inconvenient to be car-less and have to depend upon others for getting around, but it's just for a week and you'd want to spend the time together anyway. You're pregnant with twins!! Give yourself a break!! Besides, the train ride might be a real adventure for Jolene. I'll ask my kids which train they preferred. One was gross and another was lovely. I'll talk to them later on today.

I have actually never taken the train that far before. When I was in Great Lakes for school in the Navy we took a train into Chicago and that is about it. I actually think that the train would be about the same price if not cheaper then driving. Esp if gas goes back up

I am so excited. I am organizing a Toys for Tots drive for my church and it seems like everything is falling into place. They are even going to bring us a box

I freaking LOVE the train! Love the train... As you guys know, I was willing to ride it for many days, rather than fly to Arizona, if I could have found one that would have gotten me conveniently to Phoenix!

Fortunately, train availability on the East Coast is pretty convenient. And unlike airplanes, Shelly, you can get up and walk around conveniently, and the seats are large and comfortable, with more leg room. If you've never taken the train, you ought to look into it. Jolene would probably think that it was a great adventure!

AND, one of the best ways to get to Florida is to take the Autotrain! Pack you car full of "stuff", pull it up at the station, and get out. Your car will be put on the train, and you can spend the night in a sleeper. The next morning, your car is waiting for you. You didn't have to spend days driving, but you'll have wheels in Florida. I seriously wish that this system was available all across the U. S.

I think we will go the train route...It would be so much fun and I found a route not long ago that is about the same time as driving.

Okay, i just read this at SOC and it made my heart hurt a little bit. I don't think I have ever actually read someone say that they don't support our troops.

While I loved these scenes, I have to say I am against imperialism, militarism, and esp. american exceptionalism - I don't "support our troops" (sic: soldiers, not troops) - I wish they had Tomas Young as one of the soldiers, the subject of the best movie of the year "Body Of War". With sensitive subjects like this one, I always want a full balance of points of view. I understand that most americans are exceptionalists (they usually don't realize it) and most are pro-war pro-empire - but I always want a wider array of points of view. Esp. since it is a soap opera, too. And yes, my heart went out to all of the well-intentioned well-meaning vets. Of course I want all these "wars" (really occupations) to end immediately and for no new ones to be started.

Don't let it hurt you, Shelly. There are always those who will take an extreme point of view.

In this case, because we have a volunteer army rather than a draft, the poster is pointing fingers at the soldiers themselves. Ignore it. We had this stuff during the Vietnam war too, and by "this stuff" I mean people who took out their political opinions on the soldiers themselves, and this was during a time when we DID have a draft, and soldiers were sent whether they agreed with policy or not.

(Hello Canada!)

That's why one of our biggest national shames is the way the returning Vietnam vets were treated.

Yeah I am happy to say that thankfully no one commented on it. It was rightfully ignored. I don't recognize the poster so didn't know if they were of the troll persuasion or not. Sometimes people just like to stir the pot

That scene yesterday was fantastic BTW
