So today marks the beginning of day 5 without Vinnie. Things aren't too bad. Though at this moment I am still able to talk to him via messenger. In a couple days that will go away as he gets on the boat and goes to who knows where. So far Jolene has been ok. I am not sure what I will do today though to keep Jojo entertained. Its too wet for the playground.
Anyways, what is everyone up too. Kae how is that cold.
The cold turned into flu. I'll live, but still feel weak and blah.
Mike is now at the airport to get on the flight to LA at noon, then an 8 hour layover there before flying down to Auckland. Then he has a 4 hour drive down to a beach house in Raglan where he'll park himself for a week and surf. Poor baby. Raglan is a town just outside the city of Hamilton, half way down the west coast of the north island of NZ. And it's a 17 hour time difference. Gah. So Shelly, I know how you feel not being able to talk to Vinnie once he gets aboard the boat and will be out of communications with you. Horrible, but we'll muddle through somehow.
Do you have indoor playground places for kids there in Groton? My d-i-l swears by those things and uses them all the time in crummy weather. It's wet here today too.
I'm just going to stay curled up with my blanket for now. There was such a flurry of activity here earlier while Mike was packing up and friends stopped by for a farewell visit. At 3 we're taking the van over to Tony's. His wife found a playground climbing thingy for the kidneys on craigslist for $50, so Ted and Tony will go get the thing just a few blocks away from them.
And joy of joys!! The backyard neighbours we call the UFO's (because of their flashing tube lights around their octagonal deck) put up a lovely 2 meter high cedar fence!! Ted and I had been contemplating that for a couple of years and the neighbours did it all on their own. YAY!! No more having to look at that UFO . Now if we could just get them to stop playing polka music all summer long, lol.
Hey, Moore, you're still in NZ, non? You should go visit Mike in Raglan and have a glass of wine with him and Maya (the young lady). They'll have a deck overlooking the ocean. Weather there is perfect at about 23 degrees and sunny. It's late spring there now.
There is a little playground at the mall here but emphasize on the word little and we went there last night. We don't even have a McDonalds with a play area. Its another reason why I wish we lived in VA They have Chick Fil A's with the best playground areas. The best thing we have is Chuck e cheese and even that isn't as great as it is in bigger cities. We just got back from getting groceries. The last couple days I have had such a craving for fresh fruit and veggies so I just loaded up.
I just checked, and Groton doesn't have an Ikea either. Those playgrounds are wonderful! I guess there is an advantage to living in a bigger place, isn't there? How about a movie for later. There's a new animated movie out, but can't remember which one, but it's getting really good reviews. Ice Age II?
Oh Shelly, I'm so glad you decided upon the train for that long trip. I don't think you'll regret it at all. Jolene will love it, too. If she doesn't already have a portable DVD player, maybe Santa could come early and get her one for the train ride. (Btw, when Tony and his tribe drove down to Wisconsin this past summer, they rented Madeline videos for Vanessa and she found them too scary!! And to think my kids were raised on Alf trying to eat the family cat, lol.)
I think actually we may end up having to drive because we will have so much stuff. We have to bring presents down and then bring presents back up....Hehe, maybe I will leave here super early and talk Ms. Moore into meeting us for lunch to help break up my day. Another thing is everyone keeps saying that once this first trimester is over I will have more energy.
And yes, Jo ahs a dvd player but we bought it super cheap a couple years ago and I think she may get another one. Thank goodness for the day after turkey day. And this year we will be in Boston for it so no more small town stores.
I spent most of the day reading/finishing The Shack. Interesting book...
KaeEll, I do so hope that you're on the mend now, but highly recommend that you continue to take it easy for another couple of days. You don't want the flu to decide that you're a comfortable place to revisit, do you? Yes, I'm still in NZ, and my very first thought when reading your post was that I ought to check on Mike for you, since you're so far away. If he wants to offer me a little ole glass of wine while I'm there, I won't turn it down!
Shelly, I know what you mean about having all the "stuff" to transport at Christmas. I'm sorry, though, that you don't think the train will work. Maybe another time... I'll gladly meet you for lunch if I'm not going nuts myself just before Christmas. With everyone landing on my doorstep, etc., it's sometimes a bit crazy, but let me know!! I may be more than ready to escape the chaos...
