Thursday

Mike is back from NZ now for a month. His flight got in shortly after 6 this morning and Ted picked him up. Tomorrow morning he leaves on a 10 day tour of eastern Canada with his band, then home for the holidays before heading back to Auckland for the rest of the winter in mid January. He and Tony met for dinner in Santa Monica Tuesday night as Mike took a 24 hour layover in LA to help combat jet lag and to do a little surfing.

It's really icky out today, so grey and cold. Other than pecking away at decorating the tree and living room. folding a bit of laundry, I'm staying quiet while the men create all the chaos in the house with comings and goings and phone calls.

What are you up to today?

I love Santa Monica. Its such a fun place. I am happy to hear that he is home for a little while. Did you say that Tony will be away through the holidays or will he make it home?

I am not doing much today, got in to work late today. Had some ice tea at church last night that was not decaffeinated and it kept me up most of the night. So I opted to sleep a little while longer, thank goodness I have a job that allows me to do that. I still have a bit of a headache from the lack of sleep but hopefully it will go away.

It is all gross and gloomy here as well. Although its also very wet and I was told last night that after the relatively warm rain today its going to get super cold tonight which means I may have to dig out the salt again for tomorrow.

Not much else...

Well my wife is heading with her sister to Canada for some dental work (they get it discounted since they're Tribal members) and leaves tonight and won't be back until sometime Sunday so it'll be me and the kid for the weekend. So gotta figure out what I'll be doing with the little girl on both days.

Where are Patricia and sister headed in Canada. Bran? Are they driving? That's a LONG way to go for dental work!!

Shelly, Tony's away most weeks from Sunday through Thursday, sometimes in Irvine, Ca. sometimes in Garden City, NY, sometimes in Minneapolis, but he'll be home for the holidays and all weekends. The travel will slow down through the winter then pick up again in spring. That's the problem with his area of expertise, there just aren't many others that do what he does so well. I'm sure I told you guys before that he's one of the planet's top 5 experts in content management and his seminars on architecture of web design are in pretty big demand. His company's main clients want him and nobody else to come on site, so off he goes. I've had it easy this week as d-i-l's mother has been here, but next week, I'll be back in harness. I wish they'd hire a nanny.

It's up in Alberta, 14 hour drive or so. My sister doesn't get dental from her job but she gets majorly discounted work up there.

Yeah, you told us about him being one of few. That is awesome. And I am happy that you will have him home for Christmas. Does this mean that it will just be Nick who is away?

I kind of mentioned you at church last night. For some reason we were talking about things in the good ol US getting bad and my friend Christy said she was going to pack her bags and head south and I said no way, I'm going North. Its prettier and I have a friend there. But then they made a good point, it is warmer when you go south. But seriously, Mexico, unless you go to like Cancun, is just ugly. I was not impressed.

I am not entirely sure where Irvine is, but like I said I just LOVE Santa Monica. Part of me wishes that we could get stationed out that way. Jolene would just LOVE the pier. I know I did. I know California is expensive but I really enjoyed being there.

I just got this tip on AOL, thought it was interesting so I had to share.

From the editor, a few tips for egg-cellent eggs:Try starting the eggs in water that's already boiling. It helps keep the shells from sticking to the eggs -- which is what makes them difficult to peel.

Brown shells are thicker than white shells, and thus more crack-resistant, making them ideal for hard boiling. There's no other differences between white and brown eggs -- they just come from different breeds of hen.

Irvine is really close to LA, Shelly. You have to drive everywhere down there anyway, so sometimes he'll fly into LAX, sometimes to John Wayne airport. He has to rent cars so it's all about how much hassle he has brain space for that week. And yep, just Nick will be missing this Christmas. I sent him the cooking instructions for Christmas dinner. He's in charge of cooking one as Intrawest cancelled their staff dinner this year (the company that owns Whistler and Blackcomb). He and 4 girls are cooking for a bunch of the people on their floor in the housing unit where they stay.

Yeah, it IS cooler up here but not as snowy as what Jojo has to live with. It depends on where you go. Bran's wife and s-i-l are heading into major snowy country in Alberta. I sure hope they have good snow tires on, but living in Colorado, they must have plenty of experience. What town, Bran? Red Deer?

You'd be surprised how many Americans actually do immigrate up here, I know I was. But then of the visitors who come up for a holiday, there are just as many that complain about our lifestyle, lol. And I've ranted on before about how so many pro athletes gripe about our taxes. Ya get whatch pay for, non?

They're heading up into the Lethbridge area. Yeah they got a nice big suv with 4 x 4 and all that so shouldn't be anything to worry about. She was born in Cardston as was her sister.

Cardston, eh? That's just a hair north of the Montana border. I didn't know that your bride was Canadian!! Did she take out citizenship in the US or does she prefer to maintain her tribal status and skip the nationality thing? Can you do that in the USA? Which tribe is her family? (Sorry for being so nosy but I find it really interesting.)

She has dual citizenship thanks to the treaty she has in place and she's married a U.S. citizen twice so she's fine. She's from the Blood tribe up there.
