Update on friend's stolen wallet

The drunk fellow did call Christine back, said NOW he wanted just a turkey and twenty dollars, meet him at a specified corner bus shelter in a poorly lit area of town, albeit a busy intersection and very close to a large shopping centre. He said he had seen the whole robbery from a distance and saw the young mother's accomplice rifle through the wallet and toss it into a snow pile in the parking lot of Sam's Club. He retrieved it, and place the first call to my friend (because she had her phone card in the wallet) after having downed the better part of a bottle of vodka. Poor misguided chap was a recent immigrant from the Ukraine with a slightly skewed take on "doing the right thing". Anyway, after much drama and a huge disagreement with her husband who thought the whole scheme to be outrageous, Christine did in fact get back her wallet with everything intact, just her cash gone.

Interesting how someone from a completely different culture would think that this kind of good Samaritan deed had to have a reward attached to it, non? Once, years ago, Tony dropped his wallet on the way into a band rehearsal and within an hour or so, we received a call from the fellow who had picked it up. He gave us his address and we drove over to his home where he happily handed it over to our son, accepting his great thanks warmly, and that was it.

Happy ending for Christine, but OY, the drama, lol.

Meanwhile, I was baby sitting again yesterday when Tony called from NYC. His credit card had been compromised and someone who had got his information over the internet was attempting to withdraw $7000 from it at a casino in Calgary. The bank froze the account immediately and called him. They have the culprit on tape in Calgary.

Merry Christmas, eh?

Well I am happy to hear that things worked out okay for her.

Good heavens! That's so scary about Tony's frozen account, although I'm sure he's grateful that the bank acted so quickly. And poor Christine!

I've had two occasions where I've found lost wallets, and was able to get them back to the rightful owner both times. One was returned right away, and the first one I found was returned several years later because of a biotch who wouldn't give me the person's telephone number!! This was many years ago, before the internet, so I had no way to search someone, but it was the wallet of a young man who was apparently at "Beach Week", after his high school graduation. I found it in the sand!

Crazy times, KaeEll.

I saw the news report on Whistler, and the first thing I mentioned to Jim was my concern Nick! I'm so glad that it was his day off, and that he wasn't hurt or stranded. It's enough to make a mother's hair as white as the snow.

I'm exhausted. Today was our club's party, and we had a lot of fun, and tons of food, but I didn't get home until nearly 3:00 p.m., and the meeting began at 10:30 a.m. We had our gift exchange, our usual show-and-tell, and the results of our latest challenge. Mine isn't finished yet, for which I received enormous grief since I'm the one who issued the challenge in the first place. LOL!! I told them that they'd have to wait until January to see it, but were more than welcome to fire me (today was also elections). They all changed the subject, and ended up voting me in again, later in the meeting. So, I'm now beginning my 8th year as club president. It's getting to be ridiculous!! No one paid the slightest bit of attention to me during the election phase, as I rang my bell for order. It was a big, "It's all been decided, now let's go eat!"

Clearly, we don't use Roberts Rules... LOL!!

AD will be here tomorrow afternoon, and I have lots to do. I finally realized why this year feels so compressed: It was! Thanksgiving was so late this year, that we were cheated out of an entire week between that holiday and Christmas. No wonder we all feel rushed.

Shelly, wave at me when you go whizzing through Virginia, but BE SAFE!!

Congrats, Moore. You are obviously a much cherished leader in the doll club. Can you go put feet up now for a little while and relax? I think you deserve it.

Tony is hopping mad as he really didn't need all the inconvenience the thieves caused him today. Strange times, indeed.

And btw, don't believe what some media report about the gondola collapse. That nightmare continued for more than 8 hours, not for just 3. Someone is working very hard to make this seem like it was under control quickly. It was not! (It was minus 20 C there yesterday.)
