First Friday of 2009

It looks like today will be a new start in many ways for us. I had a nasty row with my father on NYE as he and my mother arrived 3 hours late for a dinner invitation, and no phone call. And they had taken their phone off the hook. This morning as I called there to make sure mom was up and getting ready for her standard Friday morning hair and nails appointment, there was no answer, not an unusual thing in itself but for a Friday morning, very strange. Games from the old folk are afoot. I need this like a hole in the head.

There were a few more deaths on the mountain in Whistler this past week as well, and I am SO glad that I had called Nick and spoke to him briefly before I saw the news about more avalanches in the area.

Mike is practising jazz trumpet riffs downstairs this morning. My poor head. He leaves for a week back down with the Coast Guards in a couple of days, then back here for a day, then he's off to NZ until March. At least that's the current plan, but we shall see. It's getting complicated, apparently.

So what's going on with the few of us left here today? Is everyone glad the holiday season is almost all done? I know that I am!!

I connected with Shelly, and am going to meet up with her later this afternoon/early evening.

In the meantime, Jim and I have a neighborhood get-together this afternoon, and I would skip it if I could (am working on a headache this morning), but already accepted the invitation, and promised dip! Jojo, I'm trying a version of your recipe with the sundried tomatoes, etc. I added more sour cream to mine, and used scallions instead of red onions. I LOVE red onions, but you never know what other people will want. As you promised, it IS yummy!! I think that for us here at home, I'll add the red onions the next time I make it. I'm going to serve it with toasted pita wedges...

Glad you tried it and liked it! I think with dips, you should just add whatever you like most of. Then it becomes "your" recipe! I'll try more sour cream and scallions next time and see how that goes for me. LOL.
I have another dip I made for Christmas using the cream cheese, cheddar and parmesan. It had green and red peppers and some other things and was declicious!! It was christmasy in that you shaped it into a wreath and topped it with the red peppers. It went at work in no time. I'll have to dig that recipe out. I guess you could add in the red peppers and not shape it like a wreath to avoid the christmas thing, LOL.
And, I'm getting the ingredients to try a new dip today...It's ricotta, honey, rosemary and pepper, and they suggest it be spread on pumpernickel. So, I'll give that a go too. I LOVE dips.

Kae, I'm sorry about your parents. How irritating!! It sounds like your dad really enjoys acting like that. Or perhaps he's trying to get more attention. I have no idea. Here's a big ol' glass of wine to gulp down while you deal, LOL.

My New years day was awful. I took two instead of one of my ultram for my arm, and it made me so sick. I was in bed, nauseous all day. Fab day.

Moore, did you take photos of your meeting with Shelly?

Jojo, you are my new dip lady! I'm coming to you everytime I need a one...

Shelly, Jolene, and I played tonight, while having a little dinner at TGI Friday's. Jolene is adorable, and full of energy, but I think that both she and Shelly were going to be ready for bed after a day of driving, and a long day ahead again tomorrow.

Had lots of fun (at least I did!!), and we even got a picture.

Moore, can't wait to see the picture of you with Shelly and Jolene and hear more about your meeting. Jojo, you ARE the dip lady!! Please share all the new finds, okay? At least the good ones, lol.

We took down all the decorations yesterday before going out for dinner. Phew, eh? It's over!! It's really all over!!

This thing with my parents hangs over me like a pall and they will not answer my phone calls. Drat to caller ID sometimes. I'll try using Ted's cell today, see if they answer that one. I need to make sure my mother is okay and not filled with bad things from my father about me. What a mess.

Have a good Sunday everyone. I'm parking myself on a sofa for the day trying to get rid of this horrible cold once and for all. Other than making Mike a good lunch before his flight to Dulles, I'm in full veg mode.

Yes, jojo -- we need recipes! We ALWAYS need recipes... LOL!!

This is the first really quiet Sunday we've had in a long time, so Jim and I are enjoying the peace. I hope your vegging helps, KaeEll, and that you start to feel better. It's no wonder you're sick with everything that's been going on in your life lately. I'm so sorry that you have this stress.

I haven't taken down our tree yet, but I did get some pictures of it. As for the pictures with Shelly, you'll have to wait until she gets back to Connecticut because they're on HER camera.

Shelly looked great. She admitted to being a bit tired from the drive, and on top of normal travel exhaustion that anyone would have, she has the very adorable and active Jolene as her travel companion, along with her growing twins who are taking their share of whatever reserve energy Shelly has left! I hope the steak and a good night's sleep helped her a bit, and that she's having a safe drive home today!

PS -- Shelly said that she has really missed her computer, and is looking forward to being able to chat with everyone again.

Okey dokey, you got it! When I find a good dip, I'll post it.

Can't wait to see the photo! And I'm so glad ya'll had a good time on the visit. I can't wait until Shelly gets back!

Kae, let us know how it goes if you are able to get a hold of your parents. Cyber hugs for you.

All my decorations are down too. Yippee! I have everything boxed up and stored away. It's nice to have my house back to normal!

Well I made it home at about 430 this afternoon. But my computer was off for 2 weeks and for some reason it didn't get turned on correctly. So I was stuck trying to figure out why I couldn't connect.

I will load pictures tomorrow. It was a great dinner and it was nice to be with someone who doesn't mind my overactive 4 year old. I don't think she is overactive, I just think that the kids at our church that I usually compare her too are just bump on log kids. Jolene is not one of those. I was blessed with good traffic coming home. I was a little afraid that the last day of the 2 week school holiday would leave me with nasty traffic all the way home. But it was good.

And I had emailed church yesterday so someone came by and shoveled and salted for me. I was so afraid of coming home to a big slab of ice and thus falling on my butt. But someone took care of it for me. Of course I still haven't unloaded anything yet...Ugh

Anyways, I am happy to be back and sure have missed you guys

I'm so glad that you and Jolene made it home safely, Shelly.

I had a wonderful evening with you and your gorgeous little girl, and I hope you'll let me know the next time that you're passing through this area.

Yippee!! Shelly's back!! You sure were missed and now you and Jolene are back safe and sound, so thank goodness. We want to hear all about the two weeks away and get caught up. That was SO nice of your friends to shovel for you, Shelly. You have a lot of support there at your compound, especially with Vinnie away. You're a lucky gal!
