It's SO cold here today, and we may get a little snow later on. I know that my complaint leaves those of you up there in The Great Frozen North laughing now, but it's still COLD!! Jim is going to have to bring in more firewood...
NC-daughter and Loren will be driving up later today, and I'm going to make pot roast for dinner tonight. I think that a little hot comfort food is in order, and I'm probably going to meet them at the door with some spiced hot cider too. I even have a bottle of Applejack Brandy stashed away, just in case they want a little splash of that in the bottom of their mugs.
That's about all I know for now. Jim is writing, Lucy is sleeping, and I'm about to peel carrots.

It might feel cold for you down there in balmy DC, but if ya want REAL cold...lol. We watched the Obama train for a bit yesterday and could see that the guards and staff had frozen breath, so it is nippy there. It is definitely brandy weather!
I put on a big vat of Brunswick stew early today, so that's out of the way. Ted's watching his favourite talking heads on CNN and in a few minutes, I'll go pick up my mother and take her to Sherway, the dreaded mall. We're both out of Clinique yellow stuff cream. If I can get Ted away from his junkie habit of CNN on Sunday mornings, I'll see if I can't get him to drive us, save the parking nightmare.
That's it from up here. Keep warm, and Moore, have a wonderful visit with NCD and her beau. (I'd definitely ply them with a little happy juice before dinner.)
NCD just called to say that they crossed into Virginia, so they're getting closer. The roads are fairly empty, although she reports seeing many cars with Obama stickers, and loaded down with luggage and clothes hanging in the windows!
Our son has decided to come over for a little pot roast too, so we'll have everyone here but AD who's nice and warm in Arizona...

Argh! That blasted Sherway Gardens was mobbed. There was a 70% off Now or Never sale going on at Holt Renfrew where we get the Clinique things and my mother could NOT be dragged away before trying on umpteen pairs of shoes and decided she liked a pair on sale for $545. After the poor shop girl had brought her so many pairs, she finally twigged that she was trying on those silly overpriced designer ones. I though I'd go out of my mind. And there was a girl with her Pomeranian in a dog stroller clogging up the passageway as she was trying on boots. Another woman bought 4 pairs of those tacky Coach shoes. Ugh. Anyway, mother came to her senses and bought no shoes. That was 2 hours out of my life I'll never get back.
Well here I was noticing the temperature was at 30. Warmer then we have had in what seems like weeks. We still got a couple of inches this morning but the temp went up. We have been hovering near zero for the better part of a week.
Just got an email that Vinnie will be home Friday. I have an ultra sound tomorrow so I am going to have them print out the picture and stick it in an envelope so I will not be tempted to look. We shall know by Friday what colors we will be shopping for. I am SO excited.
Anyway, am off to watch some tv...Here is a picture of my house in the snow.
I'm excited for you too, Shelly! Will we also learn if the babies are fraternal or identical twins? That info must be available through the ultrasound as well, non? And YAY for Vinnie's return!! He's been gone for so long.
That's a lot of snow shovelling there. Quell pain in the butt.
Oh, and Shelly, as an aside, I had wondered why you had a bird picture as an avatar until last night over dinner. Ted had a football game on TV in the family room. I asked what he was watching and he said it was Arizona v some other team for a Super Bowl thingy and that's when I saw the bird from your avatar on helmets. Duh. And they won, too, so you must be happy about that.
OH!! Hey, last Thursday night, did you watch Grissom's last day at CSI? Did you LOVE it as much as I did that he went to be with Sarah in the jungle of Costa Rica? I clapped and cried and I NEVER do that for a television show. That was IMHO a fantastic send-off. Loved it!!
KaeEll, that football game was a HUGE deal in our household too! Arizona took a very nice lead over Philadelphia right away, and we were all cheering. Then, Pittsburgh closed the gap to within five points, very near the end of the game, and we began to worry! Fortunately, Arizona scored again.
We watched a little of the concert at the Lincoln Memorial last night, and I'm already weepy! The kids are deep into the logistics of doing what they're going to be doing the next two days, but I believe they're all returning here after the ball tonight (including my son), and will sleep until about 4:00 a.m., Tuesday morning. Jim will then drive them to a 24-hour diner near the Pentagon where they're get a hot breakfast (and I will have packed other food for them too, just in case), and then they'll WALK (along with hundreds/thousands of others) about two miles across Memorial Bridge, and to the parade route.
Oh, the young...

Yes the game was a big deal. As I recall the Cardinals have never been anywhere near the NFC let alone the superbowl. I don't know if they have a chance against the Steelers but the fact that they are going to be playing in the Superbowl is huge to me.
And yes I saw the CSI. I was so afraid that they wouldn't end it that way with him going after Sarah. Was so thrilled that it did. Good tv. And I look forward to watching the new guy. Should be good
We're getting excited about the inauguration up here as well. I said last night that over the years I have never felt so much hope for our neighbours as I do this time, and that translates into hope for the entire continent. It's VERY exciting!!
I just noticed that there will be no Y&R today, and tomorrow it will be aired at 1 p.m. instead of at 11. I suppose there are more important things to broadcast...
So what are you guys doing today? Different day, same stuff? Other than having my car at the shop for an oil change (be still my heart) it's business as usual around here. Ted's leaving for San Francisco Wednesday morning and won't be back until Saturday night, so I'm going shopping tomorrow afternoon for supplies in case I get snowed in.

Yeah let's just cover some history quickly:
Dating back to when they were the Chicago/St. Louis Cardinals
The Cardinals last championship was 1947 (there was on in 1925 but they were named the champions as there were no playoffs)
The last time they reached the playoffs was 1998. They won on Wild Card round over the Cowboys but lost to the Vikings in the divisional round.
The last time they won their division was 1975 and 1976 when they were still in St. Louis.
Their record for the past decade has been: 99- 6-10, 4th in their division 00- 3-13, 5th in their division 01- 7-9, 4th in their division ***This was when there were only 3 divisions and they were in the East with the Cowboys, Giants, etc. This was a 5 team division
From this point forward they went to a 4 team set of 4 divisions: 02- 5-11, 4th in their division 03- 4-12, 4th in their division, Anquan Boldin voted Offensive Rookie of the Year 04- 6-10, 3rd in their division 05- 5-11, 3rd in their division 06- 5-11, 4th in their division 07- 8-8, 2nd in their division 08- 9-7, 1st in their division, widely considered the worst team to make the playoffs
Since the move to Phoenix in 1988, the Cardinals have had TWO winning seasons. Once in 1998 at 9-7 and this season at 9-7 as well.
So it would be fair to say the Cardinals have a history of mediocre.

I'm working from home today, as Jackson was suspended from the club for a month, and there is no school today. We have a doctors appointment today, so we're going to look into his current medication, plan an appointment w/the child psychiatrist and go from there. It's been an emotionally exhausting weekend.
It's not completely freezing here, but the sun is out, and the ice is a-melting.
Good win for the Cardinals yesterday. I loathe the Eagles, so I was def cheering for Arizona. However, I love the Steelers. They are one of my 2 favorite teams, and I will have to cheer for them in the Super Bowl.
Hey, Jojo. So sorry to hear that you've been having a hard time with your little guy, and hope that doctors can come up with a better medical solution for him this time. Life can be a real trial sometimes, eh? Here are good wishes and hugs for you and Jackson.
Yeah, I don't think anyone has any real disillusions about the Cards actually winning the Superbowl. But we are all just thrilled that they are there.
So had my appointment today. Learned that the babies are laying in like an L shape with one stretched across the bottom and the other one length wise. The technician couldn't tell what they were, I guess both were being shy. He got all the measurements that the doctor asked for so thats good. And with Vinnie coming home Friday he will actually be there when we find out what they are so I won't have to fight not looking at the results.
Anyways, I think that we got like 6-7 inches which I know isn't alot for some people in this country but it is for us. And it is for anyone who isn't suppose to shovel. So I actually had to call someone to help dig me out. It was not fun I assure you. I will be so happy when Vinnie is home and can take over this job. Of course when he gets home it will probably stop being such a mess.
Jojo I am so sad to hear all these troubles. I really hope that a little change in medication will be what he needs.
Shelly, I can only imagine how happy you'll be when Vinnie gets home. There's only so much one person can do! I also hope those babies decide to move from their L position one of these days very soon. AD was streched out lengthwise like a ballerina on her tippy-toes (like the long side of your "L"), and it wasn't comfortable towards the end there. With twins, though, I imagine that they'll do their own little dance in there, and keep competing for the most comfortable spot!
Jojo, I'm sorry that you're going through all of these challenges right now. Parenting is a never-ending challenge, and just when we think that we've solved one problem, our children decide to surprise us with a new one, or a newer version of the older one! Hang in there... You'll get through this.
