Email the link to yourself with "activeboard" in the subject line...

I email stuff to myself all the time. It's the easiest way to find it because you can access your email from anywhere!

I actually remember the addy off the top of my head. I guess I have checked in from random computers enough times that I just remember it.

Jess whenever you get the chance let us know what you have been up to.

I'm on lunch right now. Was way too tired to get online yesterday. I am getting settled in my new home. It's quite pretty. I love it. It's almost completely remodeled so yay. I'm back on my overnight shift which means I get to see the kids every day as opposed to every other week. I was in a wreck about 2 weeks ago.

I was meeting up with the ex to get a uhaul so we could get the rest of the stuff out of the old house. I had to drive the van (u know the one that he shouldn't have had anyways but because of a technicality with it being in his name he took it) because he was driving the uhaul. The kids were hungry so we decided to meet up at Pizza Hut. I was driving and all was ok until I think I bumped the cruise control button (back story: before the divorce last yearish we encountered an issue with our cruise control that it would accelerate uncontrollably and the only way to stop would be to turn the car off and disconnect the battery.. we had at one point had the cruise control completely disconnected but floyd had the fuel pump fixed a short while ago by a friend and I think that person thought they bumped it or soemthing so they reconnected it without letting anyone know) and next thing I know the van is speeding up and I can't slow it down. Traffic was pretty heavy so I couldn't turn the car off. I had all 3 kids in the van too because cody was running a little late for school and I was going to drop him off. So I'm waiting for a chance to get pulled over and nothing seems to be coming up .. then I come up on a red light. I remember a purple dodge intrepid was coming out and if I were to hit it, the lady driving would definitely not make it. So I swerved to miss her and omg I did.. then swerved to miss the actual stop light and again did amazingly. However I still couldn't stop so I hit the curb and according to people who were there I went airborn, then I went down a very steep ravine and luckily it had been raining and a creek had flooded so I hit water before hitting this huge tree right in front of me. I remember just about everything. Before I was even unbuckled Cody had Beth and Aiden out of the van. I couldn't get out though because my door was pinned shut by a tree. I tried to find my phone to call 911 but it had fallen off of the passenger seat (I was worried it had flown out f the window) Luckily for me I chose a very prime place to wreck. I was just down from Camp Butler and 3 National Guardsmen were right there to help. One came around and held back a huge tree branch while the other pulled me out.

I was in so much pain I couldn hardly stand my neck was killing me, and my back was hurting so badly. My arm was burning and swollen. They thought I had broken it. I had burns on my arm and stomach from the air bag. ( I did remember the words of my comp 2 professor and went limp I think it was a good thing) I lost my shoes in the mud. Luckily the man who had pulled me out was also a trained medical proffessional and knew how to treat for shock because I was definitely in shock. They put me on the stretcher thing .. I have no clue what the technical word for it is but it's the one for neck injuries. I had to get all strapped down. It was quite creepy. I remember looking over at one point and seeing the lady who I almost hit holding Aiden. I don't think I'll ever forget her because I know that had she and I both not had some very quick working guardian angels the outcome would have been terrible.

Meanwhile Floyd passed everything up in the Uhaul .. and he was not answering his phone becuase he did not recognize the numbers. I remember telling one of the National Guardsmen that he won't answer and if they can find my phone and call him from it he'll answer. In the meantime I gave them my friend Will's number because I knew he'd be up and he'd be right there. The kids also feel very comfortable with him. He is the one who is very patiently waiting until I feel ready to date again lol also my absolute best friend in the world right now. He also is smart enough to answer his phone.

Cody complained that he hurt his ankle .. I knew it was bs .. I know my son.. he was not going to stay back and wait for someone to come get him. It would be world war if he did not get to in the ambulance with me. So I told them to take him and treat him. THe guys in the ambulance again were absolutely amazing. They even let me know when both Floyd and Will got on the scene to get the kids.

I had no clue they were going to take me to trauma. That was quite the experience. The doctors were great though. I got right into x-ray to get my arm checked. They let Will in the x-ray area to check up on Cody and me which was very comforting because I was really scared.

Now ... it gets very interesting. When they brought me into the room again, Floyd and the kids were in there and Floyd grabbed me by the head and started bawling and crying saying he though he had lost me, he didn't know what to do, he can't live with out me etc .. The nurse had a look on her face like .. this is her ex?? Meanwhile I think I went back into shock .. I jsut sat there yelling ou.. ow ow because he was really hurting me. He then grabbed my hurt arm and started to "caress" it .. That hurt really bad. Good news was my arm was not broken!!!!

I had to give the deputy or whoever he was my statement. I actually got commended by him on exceptional defensive driving. He said I did everything right and he wished that he could see responsible driving such as that displayed more frequently. I didn't have my license on me though so I do have to take it up to the courthouse by june 18th and I'm in the good.

However the poor cop almost had some extra work to do. I had to go change into my hospital gown and give the doctors a urine sample at one point. The nurse really wanted me to try to do it with some help so she'd know I can handle it if they let me go home. Sooo yeah Floyd decides he's going to take me to the bathroom and change me .. UH NO!!! Even though Will and I are not together he's still protective of me because of what Floyd did, and there was no way Floyd was taking me to the bathroom and getting me undressed .. no absolutely not!!! The nurse and the cop just exchanged . oh shit looks. Luckily I was not too out of it and I convinced Floyd that the kids needed him to stay andhe did.

Soo after that I got my ct or whatever done on my lower back .. I wish I had gotten one on my upper back and my ribs but at the time the pain in my lower back was so intense I didnt' realize how badly my ribs were hurting. My back was good though. I do have to go see a doctor again wednesday to make sure I dont' have any cracked ribs. Right now we know they are bruised, but he wants to get another set of xrays to make sure I have no hairline fractures.

Luckily my friends here are so good to me. Will took Floyd and the kids back up to decatur, he got ahold of our friend Mike to take me back to my new home and Will's sister Nora came up to bring me a change of clothes. Poor Mike gets there and his car dies so Nora took me back to her and Will's dad's house in the meantime because my bed was still not put together. Floyd and will took care of that before I got home thougha and before he took Floyd back to his home. But yeah Nora has her cna license so I got the royal treatment lmao.

OH no!! I have to go back to work grrr!!! well I'll give more info asap!

I have never trusted those damn cruise control buttons and now I see that it was with good reason. You were very lucky, Jessica and so were the children.

Has there been any fallout from the malfunction of that gadget in the van? I think that someone ought to be taken to task over that near disaster.

I know his insurance is going to cover everything for me. I'm not so sure if I can sue or if he has to since it is his van.

Wow, glad you and the kids are okay, Jess. Car accidents can be extra scary when your children are in the car.

And happy belated birthday!

Jessica - I don't believe we have met. I joined this message board recently. I hope you have recovered from your accident and glad there were no real serious injuries.

I once had a van that also surged ahead. I didn't know at the time what caused it to suddenly surge ahead. It was a Ford Aerostar 1988. It was only a few months old. Well, on dry day about noon I was coming home from the grocery store and decided to back my car into the garage. Our driveway was approximately 100 feet long and could fit two cars wide. It was also paved with concrete. I stopped just enough to be off he street because I wanted to get my mail from our mailbox by the street. When I got back in the van, putting my foot on the brake while I switched from 'park' to 'reverse' the van went back like a bat out of hell aiming right for my brick house going backwards! I turned it into the yard, narrowly missing a birch tree, with my foot still on the brake and went across the front yard. Then it finally stopped. I literally looked down at my foot to phyiscally see that, yes, it was indeed on the brake. No damage was done fortunately. There were black skid marks on the driveway and marks on the front yard. We had the car checked by the dealership garage. They said nothing was wrong. I later learned from a show on Dateline that it was caused by the cruise control. We got rid of the van and got Dodge van. To this day I will not buy another Ford, not only because of what hapened, but because they would not admit or take any responsibility for the problem.
