Saturday

Okay, it's my turn now, KaeEll.

Jim has just driven off with Arizona Daughter, headed for the airport. We had such a nice visit, and I'm going to miss this sweet girl like crazy!

Not much on for today, except that the weather is absolutely GORGEOUS GORGEOUS, after an afternoon and evening of storms. Those storms prevented me from going out to my nephew's house last night because Lucy (the dog, Tash) goes absolutely nuts when she hears thunder, so I had to babysit. It was that, or come home to a destroyed house! Arizona Daughter wanted to see her cousins, so she and Jim drove out (my son couldn't go either), and ordered Chinese carryout for everyone.

I do have to drive unexpectedly to Rockville today to retrieve a project that I inadvertently left up there, at the last meeting. My daughter and I had checked all surfaces, we thought, before we left, and anyway I was completely convinced that I'd already packed this project in one of my bags. Yesterday, I went to dig it out, and it was NOWHERE to be found. The thing that irritated me so much was that I was really close to finishing the thing, for once! I emailed the store, just on the remote chance that someone had found it, and it was there! They're moving the store to a different location in about a week, so it's either pick it up this weekend, or it's gonna get packed up with everything else. This little jaunt will at least also give me a chance to scope out where they're going to be moving (close by) so I'll know where to go when our meetings begin again in September.

Maybe it'll take my mind off of my daughter's departure, although I doubt it. I'll be thinking about her during the drive up there, and what a beautiful day it would have been for us to sit outside, and talk...

So aside from my moping around here, what's everyone else doing today?

Aw, Moore, I know just how it feels when a child leaves, AGAIN. Staying busy really does help.

It's cool here today after a beautiful day yesterday and we sat outside for a glass of wine before dinner for the very first time all year. Then about 8 we got a call from Tony inviting us to Vanessa's ballet recital this morning at 9. I told him it was extraordinarily unlikely we'd be there. There are a few things I'd get up at dawn on a Saturday for, but that isn't one of them. Paid my dues, done that... Crankiness is contagious. Very.

We have the usual Saturday shopping to do, a trip to the garden centre, nothing exciting. Ted has to go to Winnipeg and Edmonton this week so Mike agreed to move in for a few days to keep me company, bless his heart. I really hate sleeping in the house alone, although I've done it many times.

Yesterday I organised for my mom to receive part of an inheritance that was supposed to be antique sterling and it turned out to be Rogers Brothers 1847 silverplate. She was still happy with it, but in fact, the lady that passed on and left it to her only called it her sterling, and that was made clear in the acknowledgement mother had to sign. The stuff's practically worthless but for sentimental value. Much ado about nothing, as it turned out.

That's about it, really. Fridays always whack me right out.

Arrrgh! CRAZY about that silver silliness, KaeEll. Even so, I'm sure you're glad to have it all resolved.

Arizona Daughter arrived safely in Arizona. Apparently, she didn't have such a friendly flight, so she's glad to have it behind her now! Did I tell you that her computer died last night? Yeah, it did... (Long story!!) So her first action upon arrival was to pick out a new computer. Branny, you'll be glad to know that she's picked out a Mac. Her dad has one, and loves it, so she's now crossed over to The Dark Side too. I'm a little nervous, though, because I have a slightly newer model of the computer that died, and mine has been a little weird lately, so I'm afraid it's just a matter of time for me...

I retrieved my stuff in Rockville, so I'm a happy camper now. While I was gone, Jim assembled an umbrella that I'd ordered from Overstock.com. Have any of you ever ordered anything from there? I've gotten a number of things (fairly large items), and I've always been pleased.

It's just the two of us tonight, so I'm making a little risotto with mushrooms and prosciutto, and a side of baked artichoke quarters with parmesan. The wine has already been poured!

I can't wait until I am not making milk anymore and can join you guys in a glass of wine. Although I might have a cocktail instead of wine. Today was gorgeous here in New England. The temps were in the high 70's all day. Perfect weather if you ask me. We are still adjusting to life with 2 newborns but my MIL will be here tomorrow so we will get another 2 weeks of help.

BTW, for those who didn't get the email this morning. My SIL is doing okay. I guess they fused her spine back together and expect her to be in the hospital for the next week or 2. Not bad since most people die when they break their necks.

Well Shelly -- you could actually have a glass of wine if you want to, or even a beer. There are a gazillion studies that indicate a little wine or beer is good for nursing mothers because it relaxes the mother, and even helps her product more milk.

There's even a beer that's manufactured in Germany (don't ask me the actual German name) that's labelled something like "Mother's Milk", and is made specifically for nursing mothers.

Obviously, like everything else in life, you don't want to go overboard, but a small glass of wine wouldn't hurt you or the babies.

Moore, I have an iMac too and really do like it better than my old PC. It's not perfect and some applications are trickier with a Mac but I'm sure AD will love hers.

That beer is a stout and I used to buy it for d-i-l when she first had Vanessa. Her midwives told her about it and it did wonders. She'd have a glass of it before dinner, but never got used to the taste, lol. It's kind of bitter.

Fantastic about your s-i-l, Shelly. I was in a minor motorcycle accident when I was 17, fell off a Harley Davidson as the 23 year old driving it took a corner too fast and we skidded onto the gravel road. (I will never forget him! His name was Ed Beneke from Mississippi and sold American Standard toilets. I have no idea why he was in town, but he was dating my friend, Linda and came over one day for a swim and insisted on taking me for a ride. Ugh.) I was in a bikini and had gravel imbedded in my skin. Not fun. That was the very last time I ever got on one of those blasted things. Your s-i-l is so lucky. God bless her and the doctors.

Painter guy will be here any minute, so I'd better get dressed, lol. Love Sunday morning laziness. :)

Yeah, I really don't like regular beer. If your DIL didn't like the taste I doubt I will either. My biggest thing with nursing is finding the time to get on the machine since I am pumping.

And how scary Kae...Motorcycle accidents are always scary
