It really does feel like summer is behind us now, doesn't it? Even though the weather has been beautiful, it's pitch black by 8 o'clock and the sun isn't up when I am in the morning. *sigh*
We've been having squirrel problems again. Chloe has had two in her mouth this past weekend, much yelling from us for her to drop it, much scuttling in the trees, chittering from upset squirrel mothers. Ugh.
Jessica, good for you to have had it out with the father that doesn't seem to know what parenting an adult child is all about. He wants to make it all about himself and attention, let him find it elsewhere. (Jess wrote this in Shelly's frustration thread.)
Jojo, HI!! I follow you a little bit on facebook when I do stop by there but seldom post. Please, now that you have the charger for the laptop, drop by here more regularly.
I'm car-less today, I am trying to get used to no Y&R until late in the afternoon when I can seldom watch it live. Damn cable company took away all my maritime time-shift channels and I don't like it.
What do you guys think of school days beginning at 10 instead of 8:50? One high school here has adopted the new schedule. I'm not so sure I like the idea of molly-coddling sleepy teenagers.
10 am? Good grief. How terrible! I think our 8:40 start time is late, but 10 is ridiculous. Back home the kids go to school at 7:58 a.m. Weird time, but whatever.
Yup, I'm all charged up now! Hated having to drop $50 that I didn't really have to spare, but it was a necessary evil.
It's kinda late right now, but this is my quiet time, after Jackson has fallen asleep. So I'm up watching football. These Monday night doubleheaders keep me up rather late.
Weather here's been kinda nutty. It was a rather chilly weekend, probably in the low 60's, but now was up close to 90 again today. I wish it would stay in the high 60's, low 70's. That's the perfect weather. No squirrel issues to speak of, but we're still having a hell of a time with the annoying onslaught of grasshoppers.
The weather has been absolutely GORGEOUS down here. Warm, slightly breezy, big puffy clouds in a bright blue sky. Glorious!
Shelly, our son is doing just fine now. Thanks for asking in another thread. He went back to work last Thursday, and had a busy day on Friday. I think he enjoyed the weekend, to finish his recovery. But he's doing fine...
Arizona-daughter began an internship at the Department of Veterans Affairs in Phoenix. Yesterday was her orientation, and she'll have another day of orientation on Wednesday. The actual work begins on Friday. She's VERY excited about it! The other intern, who shares an office with AD, lives two miles down the road from our daughter, and is also beginning her senior year at ASU. And they both drive a Jetta! LOL... AD is a psychology major, and is hoping to learn a lot about the challenges that veterans and their families face, both due to deployment, and also due to injuries and/or re-entry into "normal life" after fighting in a war. Even in yesterday's orientation, one of the V.A. staff psychologists taught her a lot about what to look for and do when carving out her career. It should be interesting! She had a bunch of shots (at the V.A.'s expense, at its clinic), has her official I.D., got finger printed again, and had her background checked again. Fortunately, that was a quick process because she'd already been through all of that when she became a Big Sister.
Of course, all of this has to fit in with her class schedule, which is pretty full, but the V.A. is being very nice about accommodating both girls.
Doll Club begins again tomorrow, and we'll be in a new location. It's going to feel very strange! Our old location was a funny, quirky building, and this one is, well, it's rectangular. And new. No personality that I can see yet, so I guess we ladies will have to infuse the place with our own personalities! LOL... I have a bunch to do today, in order to get ready for the meeting, and then tomorrow I'll be back to normal again.
My friend is up here from Florida for a couple of weeks, and had dinner with us two nights ago, out on the back deck. I told her to stand back for the next couple of days until Doll Club is over. Fine with her! She has plenty of other people to catch up with while she's here.
As for the new start time for the high school kids -- give me a break! Let me tell you about boarding school. We had a big, loud "rising bell" at 7:00 a.m. We had to be up, properly dressed for classes (dress code applied), and at breakfast in the dining room by 7:20 a.m. No room for snoozing because if you weren't at your assigned table by 7:20 (and another bell rang for that), you were in deep doo-doo. That meant, with only twenty minutes to get ready, you pretty much had to leap out of bed when the bell rang! Then, it was back to dorm to make beds, empty trash, sweep the floors, and grab books, etc., for class. There was a daily room inspection, and if the beds weren't made properly, or the room wasn't up to standards in general, demerits were issued.
From cleaning our rooms, we went directly to chapel (at 8:10 a.m.) which, during the week, was held in the auditorium, for announcements, prayers, hymns, and a brief little inspirational "talk" from the headmistress. We were in class by 8:30 a.m. Ten o'clock? Please............ By 8:30 a.m., we'd already gotten properly dressed, had breakfast, cleaned our rooms, and had chapel. Oh yeah, and on Thursdays we had to change our sheets.

I'm glad that I'm not the only one thinking that the 10 a.m. start is idiotic. There are so many different cultures moving into this city that the school boards are trying to accommodate them in all sorts of ways. I really believe they've got off track on this one.
Our city is changing so fast now and frankly, it's a bit overwhelming. The city claims to "embrace" these changes, but it seems to be at the expense of wisdom. Anyway, our mayor is a nincompoop, at least in my book he is.
There goes my timer, so I'm off for the day. Have a great one everybody.
