Waiting for baby

Our d-i-l is due any minute! She has never carried a baby this many weeks before and the midwives told her on Tuesday (2 days ago) that she wouldn't last the week. It will be a surprise for us this time as we don't know if it's a boy or a girl. Our son decided he didn't want to be told, it went into the file as a "do not tell" so the techies wouldn't say even after our d-i-l asked them to please let her know, lol.

On other news front, Nick is coming back for a visit on September 28th, but only for a few days. He's then traveling to Montreal to meet the g/f's family, then he and Evelyne (g/f) are heading off to some beach resort in Mexico for a week before heading back to BC. It MUST be serious as Nick has never gone to such lengths to be introduced to a young lady's parents and sibs.

Mike and Maya are leaving for a bit of canoeing in Algonquin later today, then heading to Montreal for the weekend. They leave for NZ late in November via BC where they'll visit with Nick for a couple of days. They'll have 10 days to get themselves to Los Angeles to catch the Fiji Air flight to Auckland. Mike will spend the Canadian winter down there and come back in late March, presumably with Maya.

I'm stuck home today, car-less again. I'm just waiting for that phone call from Tony...

Evelyn, what a pretty name. I am happy to hear that Nick is doing so well.
Does your DIL and your son have names picked out for either sex or are they waiting on that too? I have heard a lot of people say they waited until they saw the baby to decide. Either way, I hope the little one comes soon. I can only imagine how uncomfortable DIL is.

Stinks that you are carless, especially since you can't watch YnR to take up time with. I hope you are managing to fight the cold bug so far this year.

KaeEll, you MUST keep us posted with the baby countdown!! I'm excited...

We weren't 100% certain about our first baby's sex, although we strongly suspected that it was a girl, and it was. We knew definitively about the other two, and I much preferred it that way. It makes the pregnancy all the more personal, or at least it did for me. I think it's hilarious that they won't tell your DIL the baby's sex now that the "don't tell" notes are in the file. She's the MOTHER! LOL... Too funny.

It DOES sound as though Nick is serious about Evelyne. How do you feel about that? (I sound like a shrink with that question, but that's not how I mean it!) You haven't met her yet, have you? I'm just wondering because I know the instinctive panic that can arise in a parental heart when wondering if one's child is matching his or herself with the right person. By the way, does Evelyne pronounce her name "Evlin" or "Eve-Lynn"? Pretty name! Jim's grandmother was named Evelyn, without the "e" on the end, and pronounced it the more usual "Evlin". With the way Nick's girlfriend spells her name, I thought she might say it differently.

It sounds like Mike and Maya have some great plans coming up, although I'm sure you're going to miss Mike when he's gone for so many months!

KaeEll, you must be so frustrated not having your car, especially while waiting for such an important phone call. I'd go nuts. I have to admit that whenever there are discussions about scaling back on car ownership, for the sake of the environment, I get a little queasy inside! I can't imagine, and VERY selfishly, being without my own car. I can't deal with the idea of feeling "trapped", and being without my car even for a few hours makes me feel that way.

They have names picked out but they don't share, lol. I grilled Vanessa with cookies in hand and she said one name was Oliver and another Jennifer. I think she was making that up. She said, during the same inquisition, that if it was a boy, she promised not to throw it in the garbage. She's quite the little character.

Yes, d-i-l is miserably uncomfortable. She's short at 5'2" so this big baby is quite a load for her. She can't wait for it to get out of her! I still wonder how they'll manage with only 2 bedrooms and one bath. They tore out the 2nd bathroom during a mould removal whatsits and the third bedroom is filled with computer servers and the like. I suppose they COULD get that stuff out, but their plans are to tear down the house and rebuild. Ted and I have been trying desperately to convince them to sell the house and buy a brand new one. They live in an area that is so desirable (a 3 minute walk to the subway) that every single bungalow that goes on the market is replaced with a two storey house. They're everywhere around them. And they would be better off financially that way too. But what do we know.

Moore, I've got my cleaning lady here today and I don't leave her alone (because of Chloe), so I'd have been stuck home anyway. I did so much running around this week that I don't really mind so much. Tomorrow is typical chauffeuring duties so I can rest up today.

When we (or rather Ted) decided that we ought to go the one car route I panicked at first too. It's been so-so. Most days I drive him to the subway and pick him up at 6ish. That's in the light. Come winter, and I really don't like to drive in the dark, another story. Ugh. I dread it. But it IS more economical for me to take taxis when I need to. I sort of enjoy it, actually. It's a $13 ride to Tony's house, including tip, a $10 ride to my parents. The grocery store is just a $6 trip. Do the math and it really is a lot cheaper that spending whatever on another vehicle, and never mind the maintenance and insurance. Top that all off with me disliking all the nutsy road rage out there and the horrible traffic, PLUS getting out off pick up duty at V's school.... It's not so bad after all. When I've had to go collect V, it takes me 40 minutes to drive there (mid-town traffic is vile), then driving her home etc., it's almost a 2 hour expedition. It used to take me 2 hours to drive to our cottage on Georgian Bay! Then I could open the windows and listen to the breakers, drink in the fresh air and relax. When I pick up V, I'm a bag of nerves by the time I get home.

Shelly, I'm going to get caught up on Y&R now. I think Colleen's dead, drowned in the lake Brad froze in. I'm not enjoying it lately.

Kae, SOD says that Colleen will be brain dead. But wasn't Summer brain dead too. I think if they were going to flat out kill her off they would have done it.

Shelly, UGH. Y&R is going too dark for me.

With the new time slot at 4:30, it's not so much of a draw for me now. I do record it, but I'm not paying the same attention I used to. I watched yesterday's episode live but turned it off part way through, if that's any indication, lol. As much as I like Peter Bergman, seeing him with that crazy woman and a soggy niece, it just left me feeling sort of ill.

Soap writers all seem to be suffering from the same wackiness that says making viewers cringe is the ticket to loyalty. Not so here. I don't even watch OLTL now. Stacy killed it for me.

Still waiting for baby...

Any baby news?? By the way, I love the name Oliver! If it's a girl, maybe she can be Olivia. (Nice try with the cookies, KaeEll...)

No baby news yet. Ted's working at Tony's office today so we're on the main pipeline, lol. I'm picking him up at 4, going to a creepy Chinese market for fresh fish. I won't go by myself, too yicky down there. I was just telling Shelly about that market. Christine took me there on Tuesday after we'd had a lovely lady-like lunch for pete's sake. I almost fainted when I saw all the beef, pork and chicken feet on display. YUCK!! And they have a huge fish tank. You pick out the one you want and the guy fishes it out with a net, whacks it on the head then guts it. YUCK!

But the guy sells all this beautiful stuff for half of what we pay at the local grocery store. Not sure it's going to be worth the big savings, but I'll see. If I can find something else to look at while he's whacking my fish....

Sounds like an interesting store. I am glad that Ted is going with you. There must be something for you to do while this guy cuts up the fish. Blech.

So I decided that the worst part about being a junior mod on SOC is that I no longer have the time to read and post on the other boards. It kind of stinks.

Yeah Shelly, it does take up a lot of time. It's one of the reasons that I rarely get to visit SOC's OLTL board which is where most of us on this board met to begin with. I used to post there as much as I did on the AMC board, but just don't have the time now. I do try to stop by sometimes, and will occasionally leave a post, but then don't get back in time to see any of the replies! LOL... Shelly, at least you don't have to send out a gazillion warning emails, or get the irate replies, so be grateful.

KaeEll, we're all counting the minutes!

As for the fish, I was on a hunt for red snapper a couple of years ago, when our closest stores weren't carrying it, and I ended up at a nearby Asian market. BASKETS of all kinds of dried fish, and a huge fresh fish counter. I ended up buying the red snapper there, and it was delicious. They didn't kill anything in front of me though...

Usually I do send out emails, but sometimes with the twins I simply don't have time. Liz, bless her heart does it for me sometimes. Which is good because I think that she intimidates posters more then I do.

Heck I don't often have time to post on the GH board. Too many fanbase wars. I am SO glad I wasn't a moderator during the Jovan wars on OLTL

Waiting for baby, how exciting! Can't wait to hear the good news!

Shelly, you're a junior mod at SOC? Gosh, I haven't been over there in AGES. I don't even keep up hardly with soap news anymore. A little here and there, and I catch a fews eps here and there too, but not much.

Jojo I am a Junior Mod on the GH forum. I have actually always wanted to be one, I kind of enjoy it. Although I really don't get the chance to post in the threads as much as I would like. I always feel weird posting right after I deleted someone else post.

Update on that Chinese market:

I ended up buying 4 rib eye steaks and 6 pork chops, plus a great slab of salmon, all for less than $20!! It was a grubby experience and some parts of the store near where they keep the fish smelled like a dirty diaper pail, but the savings were awesome.

Will I go back? No, but Ted will. He's welcome to any time as long as he doesn't want me to be there too, lol.

WOW! That's quite a bargain, KaeEll. Good job... As long as it's all fresh!

I haven't been back to the one I mentioned since I got the snapper, even though it's close to me. It was a rather strange experience; I felt as though I'd been transported to an entirely different country. The market is in a small and older strip mall that's changed significantly over the years. What used to be a normal chain grocery store, with wide aisles, etc., is now like something out of a third world outdoor market. Lots of interesting stuff, though! When I was there, I could barely move through the aisles because they were piled with baskets and bins of produce. Also, customers seemed to have no awareness that anyone else wanted to get past them, to move to another more distant location in the store. They mosied along, sometimes blocking the aisle entirely to paw through stuff. Many were speaking other languages. It made for an interesting atmosphere, but I'm going to remember to avoid the place on days when I'm in a hurry! LOL... Also, as I recall, they only take cash.

Moore, that's exactly like the market I went to on Friday! The shoppers in there aren't at all like the ones I encounter at my usual grocery store either. I'd be tempted to call many of them rude were it not for the fact that they were all from different cultures and I'm sure that's how they must shop back in the old country.

I've mentioned before how fast this city is changing. Where there used to be little strip malls with what we call Kibbie Joints (variety stores), all gone, and replaced with Halal shops. It's a different world alright!

I just made a trip to Cobb's, the bakery that I'm crazy about. I took Tony and tribe some chocolate croissants and a loaf of apricot yummy thing, all sliced and ready for the toaster. It is SO good! I brought back 2 ham and cheese croissants for Ted and me and Chloe got 3 big bites too. It sure beats making Sunday brunch.

It's the second last day of summer, sniff, sniff. Pumpkins are coming soon. Have you guys thought about Halloween yet?

Yum, that sounds delicious!! I went to bed with the intention of making fresh bacon and goodies this morning, but when I awoke after only 4 hours of sleep, I changed the game plan to warming up some leftover sausage and serviing it to Jack with toast.
I scrambled an egg for myself and put that w/my refried beans (always a staple at breakfast growing up) over some toast.

I love when it turns to fall. I always break out all my pumpkin recipes and make everything from pumpkin break to pumpkin pancakes. I LOVE pumpkin. Pumpkin food, pumpkin candles...I never tire of it.

Does anyone know why you can't edit your posts here anymore? I hit the post on accident and tried to edit, but can't. Irritating.

Anywho, I wish we had some cool little markets here. We have a few specialty shops that I like, like the Wisconsin cheese house that has the best selection of cheese and tons of other goodies.

Also, we have a tiny little mexican store that I LOVE. If you can find a large mexican grocery store in your area, do go. The big ones, and the best and most authentic have little delis set up selling authentic mexican fare, and the old fashioned made with sugar cane pepsis and coke in glass bottles that they drink a lot of in Mexico. Also, they have these bakeries with DELICIOUS pastries and breads. In the smaller operations the breads are made fresh at home. So. Good. The one here isn't large, so doesn't have a meat and produce section, but has some amazing spices and herbs. Also, you can find tons of little odds and ends, mexican candies...it's my favorite store to go to. There was one back home in my grandma's town, and we always went. Of course, she's hispanic and we were brought up on many of the ingredients and foods sold in those stores.

I don't know either, Jodi, but I noticed that function loss a few months ago. Sometimes it'll come back, then poof, all gone. And I make lots of typos too, many I don't catch until after I posted so I'm permanently on record as an illiterate, lol.

Wow bargains and babies and all sorts of commotion. Sorry it's been so late since I've been on. I am all laid up with pneumonia right now. I guess I pushed my self just a bit too far. I am up for a possible promotion so I have been working my buns off then 2 days in a row with no sleep and a light cold turned into pneumonia.. or at least that's my guess.

The bf is taking great care of me, in fact between him and my very good friend/manager (hopefully co-manager soon) I am almost never alone. It's like round the clock care without the nosy pesky hospital gunk.

OH I love me some pumpkin stuff too jojo. Pumpkin spice frappuccinos are my fav.

Guess how lucky I am btws .. my grandma bought Cody a dog. oh yeah so not pleased right now. Not even kinda.

The talk of all the yummy food is actually giving me an appetite again. Yum!

Can't wait to hear the baby update. Oh I wish I could get updates on my cell lol.
