So I have been really trying to figure out what to do for Jolene's big birthday. I think that 5 is a big year. I was going to take her bowling but we are transferring the end of November and really want to buy a house down in Virginia so we need to save money. So I think I may do a movie night. I may even get bagels or english muffins and let the kids make their own pizzas. And then get stuff so they can make their own cupcakes. Or maybe I will stick with just the pizza and let the Stop and Shop make the cake...last year we got a Little Mermaid cake that was actually all cupcakes. Anyways, what do you guys think. I am looking up the movie Up! to see when it will be released onto DVD, or maybe the new Ice Age movie. Something special that the kids haven't all seen a million times.

Cupcakes are always a big hit with the kids, so I'd be tempted to go that route and it's a lot tidier. Nothing like cake crumbs lurking around on the floor for a couple of weeks, lol. (We have a dog to take care of that, but you don't Shelly.) You could let the kids customise them by providing different sprinkle things in various shapes. D-i-l does that all the time with her kids and they LOVE it.
English muffins are easier than bagels too. Bagels can be heavy and harder to cut open and the little girls may prefer to have something easier to eat.
As for the movies, I'm completely out of kid movie loop, so sorry, Shelly.
When exactly do you move? That's exciting!!
Oh, baby still inside. I talked to Tony this morning and all quiet. We're surprised she's still carrying it, but good for baby, I guess.
Shelly, I used to make those English Muffin pizzas for the kids, and they were always a huge success. You could also use pita bread, sliced completely in half (two full circles) for thin-crust pizzas, and just slightly toasted before you put the toppings on and toast them again.
One of our local stores has pretty good sheet cakes, and I've grabbed those on occasion, I admit! They also come in half sheets, so you don't end up with a lot of left-over cake. I think that you ought to make the party for a five year old as simple as possible! Renting a DVD, and having little pizzas is the perfect idea. Maybe also a little game or two.
KaeEll -- keep us posted!! I'm excited...

I thought about getting dough and roll it out...might still. I went to a party as a kid where we got to roll out our own pizza...but then the English muffins seem easier.
I think the little mini pizzas and movie is perfect for kids birthday party. Excellent idea. And just browse the local movie selection and let Jolene pick something out. There are a few good kids movies out there. Or maybe even an oldie but goodie, like an old Disney classic.
Oh, and while the new Ice Age movie would be a good choice, it's still in theaters. We went and saw it last weekend, LOL. I don't know about Up...it may be out, or soon? I have no idea.
So I think I have decided that instead of using the English muffins I will get some dough from a pizza place and let the kids roll out their own pizzas. I think that would be fun.
And that stinks about the Ice Age movie. I found out that Up doesn't come out until November. I am thinking that either the classic Disney route may work. Jolene recently discovered that she loves Alice in Wonderland and The Jungle Book 2. We could also watch the 2nd Madagascar movie. I haven't seen it yet.
