(SoapOperaNetwork.com) The writing is on the wall for One Life to Live according to one report, which claims that 2010 will mark the end for ABC Daytimes second-longest running soap.
TVGuide Canada columnist Nelson Branco is reporting that One Life will be cancelled next year barring a ratings miracle. According to Brancos latest Soapgeist column, OLTL was recently on the verge of cancellation, and that the shows only saving grace was negative feedback from focus groups who viewed a pilot for a planned new Aisha Tyler talk show.
Furthermore, he suggests that ABC Daytime President Brian Frons was forced to choose between OLTL and sister soap All My Children due to financial constraints, and ultimatly chose AMC, hence the recent announcement of that sudsers upcoming West Coast relocation.
Frons will most likely move Trevor St. John, Kassie DePaiva, Michael Easton, the Kish boys [Brett Claywell and Scott Evans], and maybe Brandon Buddy and Kristen Alderson to become a part of AMC. He will not merge both shows into two half-hour soaps, asserts Branco.
It should be noted that One Life to Live will be moving into All My Childrens vacated studios come January, and is expected to begin broadcasting episodes in HD early next year. And, while Brancos allegations are troublesome for OLTL fans (especially given the recent cancellation of Guiding Light), they remain only speculation at this time, and ABC has remained silent on the issue.

I think that Nelson Branco is an idiot....but he may be right about this. I kind of thought that with the moving of AMC the people in charge new that it wouldn't bode well for the show because the headliners wouldn't make the move but I guess if Frons wants to be able to tape both shows in the same place it almost makes sense. Who knows what the future holds.
And who's to say they don't just move all three to L.A. anyways. I hate to say this but I think the age of New York acting is coming to a close quickly.

It does kind of smell fishy, the move to LA and all. I'm awfully glad I've weaned myself from the soap habit, especially the ABC soaps.
What I will miss is a monthly dose of Victoria Lord and Dorian doing battle but from what I've seen lately those two characters have been reduced to cartoon status. Not even David Vickers brought them out of the doldrums.
OLTL went sour for me because of the focus on TSJ's Todd. I just can't stand the guy and his portrayal of what was once a fantastic character. And then the introduction of that vile Evangeline character and the insufferable fan wars that ensued. Talk about a show shooting itself in the foot.
Actually it looks like Dorian and Vickie will be going head to head for the spot of Llanview Mayor and both have been getting better air time and stories in recent months. TSJ is looking good as Todd with Tea and those two work well together. The new annoying thing is the Gigi-Rex-stupid blonde tramp sister triangle. Yep. That's the new horror.

I would hate to see this soap cancelled. I like it now as much as I do AMC. Sometimes even better. It seems that when AMC sucks, OLTL is great, and the other way around. That allows me to ENJOY at least ONE soap per day! LOL...
