Eerie skin eruptions

Early this morning, while Ted was pout picking up the last of the groceries for the big dinner tomorrow, my friend Christine called, asked me if I wanted to go out to Oakville with her to Whole Foods. (Oakville is a suburb about a half hour's drive to the west of us.) Sure, so I scrambled around and she picked me up. During the drive I apologised to her for a moderately bad humour I was in because a very annoying rash of sorts came back out of the blue, an eruption I have not had for more than 20 years. She nearly stopped the car dead. She told me that her sister, Bobby, a scrabble nut, met with her club last night and they were all talking about how many of them were experiencing recurrences of very old skin whatevers, whether it be shingles, hives, cold sores or just ordinary skin rashes. One lady received a call from her friend in St. Catherine's, a good hour's drive away. He too had a recurrent rash, one he hadn't had since he was almost a kid. So Bobby did some research and learned that there was an outbreak of this very thing all over the place. Recurrences of old skin eruptions that hadn't been seen in many years were popping up on random people from one end of the province to the other. Bobby didn't research any further than Ontario.

Anyway, I had just sat down about half an hour ago after making the candied yellow things (yams??) and the stuffing for the bird when Christine called me. She had just sent her husband out to the pharmacy for her because she had broken out in hives all over both of her arms. She had not had that rash since she lived in India!

Isn't this weird? Oh, and Bobby's scrabble club is relatively small but 40% of the members had the same complaint.

I seldom talk much about it, but I've been involved in energy medicine for several years and have seen some pretty remarkable results. My theory is that there is some kind of vibe out there and the people sensitive to it are developing these recurrences. I'm sure all of you (Bran, not you, LOL) have experienced getting your periods at exactly the same time as a girlfriend you spend a lot of time with, even if it's just a phone call daily or several times a week.. That's old stuff, been around since forever. I believe this is the same thing.

So what do you think? It is a real occurrence and can't be put down to coincidence because of the commonality of so many of the histories.

Weird, non?

That's really weird, KaeEll. Do you know what your rash was twenty years ago? And it's the same one? Is everyone getting the SAME rash, or recurrences of what they've already had, and they're all different?

And Christine broke out after your trip to Oakville.

Very strange...

You're right about the period thing (sorry Bran), but that's to true. Women who work in offices together almost always end up on the same cycle, even though they were on completely different ones to begin with.

All the rashes are different, but the SAME rash they all had had years before. I knew exactly what mine was, as did all the others because they had been diagnosed by their doctors when they had gone to see them with the complaint. Some people had shingles come back, others, hives or herpes (cold sores), some had rashes diagnosed as eczema or psoriasis, but the thing that was so odd is that these had all occurred at an earlier time and there was no apparent reason for them to come back. Usually skin problems follow stress or some emotional trauma, but no one reported a particularly stressful time. In fact, our Thanksgiving weekend is one of the most laid-back and fun weekends all season. Not many folks find it stressful at all, not even me who was up with the birds getting that turkey stuffed and into the oven.

And yeah, Christine's rash appeared about 3 hours after we had come back home after Oakville. She also knew what it was, some common child thing, but the name escapes me. Something rosea. It had almost all gone away this morning, she reported.

My hair now smells like giblet broth so I'll head to the shower for a nice long one. I'll take some pictures of the table before and after, lol. I spoke to Vanessa this morning and she is looking forward to plopping the whipped cream on the pie slices at dessert. That's her "job" today. I am SO glad we have a doggie, the four legged vacuum cleaner.

Well, that's just STRANGE, KaeEll.

I hope you have a fabulous feast, and there are worse things than smelling like giblet broth, by the way! It's one of those fond memories you're grandchildren will have of you: "Grandmother always smelled like giblets, on Thanksgiving." LOL...

That is very odd. I can't come up with an explanation, especially since everyone is having breakouts of different skin conditions. But weird that it's all at once.

And I hope you have a fab celebration today, Kae. And my fondest memories of Thanksgiving are of my mom smelling of giblet gravy.

It's a bland, snowy day today. Jack and I both appear to be coming down with some sort of illness. We are both coughing, and he's got a slight fever. As active as he is, you know it's bad when all he wants to do is lay down. He's being so quiet and still, and so unlike himself, I feel really bad for him.
It has me scared with this damn swine flu outbreak. We've both gotten our seasonal flu vaccinations, but the swine flu vacc hasn't made it here yet.

Hey JOJO!!

I'm so sorry that you and Jack are feeling poorly. That's definitely going around. Jim went upstairs to take a nap late yesterday afternoon, and slept through the night. No dinner or anything! This is a man who's normally very difficult to keep in bed, even when he's really sick. He got a flu shot a few days ago, so it might be related. He's not sick-sick, but a little powered down, his eyes hurt, he has a bit of a headache, and sore muscles, etc., but it's not looking like the flu.

Our oldest daughter was also sick for DAYS, down in NC. Fever, and the whole thing.

And a couple of days ago, I was out running some errands, and suddenly felt just really tired, and a little thready. I didn't think that I was going to be able to wait long enough to get through the line I was standing in; I just wanted to sit down somewhere. After I got home, I fully expected to have whatever that was all about to develop into something, but it never did.

I hope that whatever you and Jack seem to developing doesn't amount to much of anything.

By the way, I can't even begin to relate to the idea of snow yet! Ugh...

It's great to hear from you, jojo. Take care of yourself (and Jack), and feel better.

Jojo and Moore, the flu shots often DO have some odd repercussions, some as debilitating as the flu itself. But I'm certainly not advocating forgoing the shot if you feel it's wisest. I sure hope all of you feel better soon. Snow? ARGH!!

Well, it's not exactly sexy to smell like the cooked innards of a big old bird, but if the kids have fond memories, all the better, I guess, LOL. All that's left to do is put the crescent rolls on the cookie sheets and back into the fridge until it's time to bake them. Moore, I found those yummy rolls you told me about!! Thanks! It would be so nice if I could get the guys away from those gawdawful Pillsbury things, but they love them.

The meeting hour is coming up fast! It's almost 3 o'clock!! Gobble, gobble, gobble.

Have a FANTASTIC family celebration, KaeEll. I'm sure that the food will be delicious. And I hope you like those rolls! Maybe the men folk will decide they prefer them too, once they try them. Who knows? Miracles can happen during the holiday season. LOL...

Thanks ladies! Jack has been laying on the couch all day long, so that's how I know he's not doing so hot. And, I did get his fever down earlier, but it shot back up, and I think it's waning now. He's like your hubby, Moore...it's hard to keep him in bed!

And Kae, I usually have some minor side effects when I get the flu shot, but last weekend when I got it, I was sick, sick sick. I've never been that sick before. Oddly Jackson didn't have any side effects from his. This weekend's sicknesses for us came out of nowhere.

And I do hope you and Jim don't come down with something worse. Is NC daughter doing better now? There's nothing worse than being that sick and not being able to do much about it.

Kae, I hope your dinner went fantastic! And I'm sure you are stuffed to the brim!

And yes, snow. It's been snowing off and on all week. Today it was all. day. long. It didn't let up once. It wasn't cold enough to stick bad on the roads, but now that the temp has dropped, it's beginning to pile up. Fantastic.

Things here this weekend have been kind of lazy. I don't feel to good myself but that is because the girls have been keeping me up at night. I need to get them back on the same or a similar schedule. This just stinks. I feed one get her back down only for the other one to wake up a short time later.

Today is Columbus Day. Kind of a random holiday but you know the government will take any day they can off.

Jojo -- NC-daughter seems to be doing a bit better, and Jim's symptoms are completely gone! Like mine, they never developed into anything.

Shelly, I worked for YEARS for a lawyer who was originally from Puerto Rico, and he represented the Puerto Rican government, in maritime law, so most of his clients were down there. You can't even BELIEVE how many holidays they have in Puerto Rico!! Crazy Mario (my former boss) would tell me to place a call for him, and then remember that it was a holiday. I'd ask "WHAT holiday??", and he'd tell me that it was St. *something-or-other* Day, and that the government was closed. Again. I swear that if you were to count up all those holidays, the Puerto Rican government is actually open only 100 days out of the year! LOL...

To return briefly to the idea of the collective subconscious, here's a link to an older book (written in the 1990's) about the women from biblical times all heading off to the red tent during menstruation. They all had periods at the same time. The book is about all sorts of other stuff, but it talks extensively about this phenomenon.
