Lots of little things going on today, a day that started off awfully early. Our friend, Julie Heathcote, passed away on Monday, so we're off to her funeral on Friday. She had been ailing for quite a while and is finally at peace. She was 85. Sweet Julie.
Send good thoughts and prayers for Vinnie's mom who fell down a flight of stairs.
Our friends from NYC are birthing their 3rd little one (probably already done, haven't heard yet), so that's a blessing. Life. eh?
I'm so sorry about your friend Julie. Is she the one who was in a series of pictures you posted a number of months ago?
Well, today is now Thursday, and I was MIA yesterday because I had doll club. I began the day tired anyway because I worried about a neighbor all night long, the night before. Jim and I had JUST gone to bed when we heard a bunch of emergency vehicles roar down our street, and stop, essentially, in front of our house. Of course, we had to see what in the world was going on, so Jim threw on his jeans, and I stuck a coat on over my nightie. Our next-door-neighbor was already outside..
Directly across the street from us is a cul-de-sac, and it was completely filled with one fire truck, and two ambulances. (By the way, we have GREAT emergency response time in our area, which is reassuring!) Because of all the vehicles, we couldn't tell which house was having the emergency until we caught a glimpse of an EMT, carrying a baby to one of the ambulances. It was our brand new neighbors!!
Jim, George, and I speculated that it must be what our own son had when he was 22 mos old: febrile seizure. When I finally caught up with our exhausted neighbors yesterday, they confirmed that this is exactly what happened to their little boy, who is now perfectly fine, and on meds. She's expecting a second baby, so it was a doubly worrisome and exhausting night for her.
Anyway, I was out of the house at about 9:30 a.m., yesterday, and drove up to Rockville. I didn't get back home again until mid-afternoon, and was so tired that I could barely hold my eyes open. However, our son was coming over for some lasagna, so I didn't really have any time for a quick nap.
He's very excited because he's going to a bill signing at The White House today! This is some legislation that our son worked on. He and some other coworkers will be in the Oval Office at about 1:30 pm this afternoon, and then he thinks they'll move to the Rose Garden. I have no idea whether or not this will be televised, but I'm going to keep my eyes open, just in case!! And yes...he's taking his camera. It's possible that The White House photographer will take a picture of the group, but don't know that for sure either. Our son's on a roll with the Obamas. He saw Mrs. Obama two days ago, when she visited the Department of Veterans Affairs. A Secret Service agent got in his way as Mrs. O passed by, so our son didn't get to shake her hand, but he got some pictures. When he forwards those, I'll post them! Here's his ticket:
Here are the two stills that he took of the event with Mrs. Obama. Apparently, he has a short little video too, but I don't have that yet. She's so cute!!
(Arrgh...hang on! I'm having problems with this zip file!)

She really is lovely, isn't she! So much prettier in candid shots too. Lucky Moore's son! Congrats to him. What an exciting job for a young man.
I learned yesterday from d-i-l that her younger brother (she has 3 of them, but the eldest of the 3 brothers) just landed a job with the capitol too! He'll be in the foreign affairs department, I think. He and his fiance are here visiting and he has to report to work on November 2. Moore, I think they found lodgings in Maclean. Is that an okay neighbourhood?
It's a wonderful Indian Summer day here in Toronto. I was at the dratted dentist for a torture session of cleaning earlier, then had a leisurely tea with Christine. She has one of her kids home with mould poisoning - his first ever apartment of his own made him ill. No fun for mom with a 22 year old back in the nest and sick. Ugh.
Yes, Julie is in a picture taken at Mrs. Roy's 94th bd party last March. She was a really sweet lady and such a good friend. She will be greatly missed. Julie is is the lady in the middle. She, Mrs. Roy and my mother had been great friends for many, many years.

KaeEll, McLean is one of the nicest areas, so that's great! Congratulations to him too.
I just got a bit of updated information through Jim, and it seems that the ceremony took place either in the Roosevelt Room or in the Red Room, rather than in the Oval Office, but still...!! I've been in both, and they're both gorgeous settings for such a special event. Our son was apparently able to get lots of pictures, and a couple of little videos of the President entering the room. As I understand it, I think that someone else from his office managed to get a few of our son too, so we'll see what he sends me!
I'm so sorry to know that Julie is the same woman in the pictures you posted because she really did look like a nice lady. I remember you said that she didn't mince words with people either! LOL...
Shelly, how's Vinnie's mom doing? How scary!! It's not funny to fall down a flight of stairs, and I do hope she's okay.

It's Mrs. Roy that doesn't mince words. Julie had never said an unkind or caustic anything her entire life long. She was warm and very sweet, almost childlike in her faith in people and her generosity of spirit. She and my mother used to hold hands a lot, in fact I even have a picture of that on that party day. It somehow gave them comfort.

Vinnie's mom is doing amazingly well. She didn't break anything but is now turning all the colors of the rainbow. I agree about it not being funny, its quite scary. Which reminds me, Vinnie's mom said that her husband began recovering at about 2 this morning. Talk about traumatic for him as well.
Thanks for the pictures Moore, how wonderful for your son to have all these great experiences.
Kae I am also sorry about your friend, it is very rare to find people who still have faith in other people.
