Your level of give up/frustration with your shows

So I've completely given up caring about Days of Our Lives and All My Children many many many moons ago. I'm really really close to giving up on One Life To Life, and I actually find General Hospital entertaining. Maybe it's the most "male" soap available, lol. As for CBS soaps, never cared, never interested.

The only one I care about at all is Y&R, having never really watched GH for a long, long time. What I do miss is talking about the soaps with you guys, though.

Bran, I understand completely giving up on the 2 ABC soaps we used to discuss a lot, many moons ago, as you said, lol. I honestly have tried to watch, as I did today. Vikki was in a few scenes, so that was nice. The gay stories bore me. Not a homophobe at all, but that's not what i watched for.

I do feel frustrated and cheated many times when I do tune into Y&R, but not nearly as badly as i have felt in the ABC stories. There are a couple of things going on that interest me there, so I haven;t thrown in that towel yet. But it seems that when circumstances remove the convenience of viewing, and the habit gets broken, that's IT.

Shelly, if you're reading this, I'll do a day ahead for Y&R today. I haven't done that in ages, and I am watching live today, albeit 5 1/2 hours later than I used to be able to.

I just read that Mitch is indeed Rex's father. I mean how many years later do we finally find out what we all suspected so long ago. So yeah, I understand the giving up soaps thing.

And to be honest, if it wasn't for moderating some days I would like to give up GH. It just gets too dark sometimes. Although not as dark as Adam killing Ashley's baby and then stealing Sharon's baby to give to her, and then becoming friends with Sharon. Blech.

Mitch is Rex's father? Oh good grief. That's vile, weak, silly and altogether disappointing.

I liked it better when we all thought Spencer was his father and Page was around. What does THAT say, lol?????

Thats what SOD says, I am not the least bit surprised. Sad that his paternity question first came out when HHHUgh was still around. Sad that now I don't know if any of us watches this show. Moore might still, but I don't think that anyone else does.

Bran, I just saw your Facebook post on this subject this morning. There are SO many shows that lose their appeal after a few short years.

Here's a short list of the shows I used to enjoy and now avoid:

House
Grey's Anatomy
CSI
Law and Order (all of them)
Desperate Housewives
Ugly Betty
Boston Legal
ABC soaps

What I DO watch and like:

Midsommer Murders
Hustle
DWTS
American Idol (the last 4 weeks)
Movie Channel offerings
Nova
Hercule Poirot (with David Suchet, WNED, Saturday night)
Sherlock Holmes (on WNED on Saturday night)
The Young and the Restless

We're watching a lot of shows on USA network:
Psych, Monk, Burn Notice, Royal Pains, White Collar

They continue to do well on that network with their shows.

Oh, I watch Monk too. It can be silly sometimes, but it isn't gory or grim.

Kae are you watching Castle? I love it. I love that he always gets his ideas for solving the crimes when he is with his daughter. Great casting there.

Of course I LOVE Nathan Phillian so I watch it most of the time. Last night there was a bit of a conflict for me because Eddie Cybrian and Alexis Havens were both on CSI Miami, so I tuned in there instead.

Castle has one huge problem for me, and that is the actress playing the police woman Castle hangs out with. I think she is beyond hideous. She walks like a truck driver, has awkward arms and hands and overacts. That one casting misstep almost cancels out the wonderful actress playing his mother (Susan Sullivan, love her) and the girl playing his daughter. So yeah, I do watch Castle and will rank it right up there among my first choices as soon as they get rid of that one actress.

BTW, another show I rather liked but that has a similar problem is The Mentalist. He's terrific but his side-kick cop girl, again, not as bad as the girl on Nathan's show, but still pretty bad. I had heard she was to be replaced, but alas, not yet.

We've also watched a couple of times "Lie to Me" and it was pretty good. Excellent cast, weird stories, and no irritating major leads.

All of this talk made me think back to another show we used to watch regularly, "Numbers". Funny, how one bad casting can screw up a whole series. They had that sloe-eyed woman with the nasal voice in there as a love-interest for whatziisname (the character went to live with monks) and it fell flat. Rob Morrow took a back seat to the Krumpholtz guy and the entire series changed. Without Judd Hersch, it would be cancelled in two secs, IMHO.
