The weekend!

Hi everyone!

I've been catching up on the posts, so here goes, LOL.

Shelly, how are you feeling? I know you said the other day you were coming down with flu-like stuff. Hope it's not bad.
And I hope you guys can get the tax credit on a home!

Kae, how was the dentist? And good for you celebrating your anniversary this year. And you asked about my plans--I am fairly certain we are celebrating at the brother's place this year again. They haven't said anything about having other plans, so I figure that's what we'll do.

Sundancer, thanks for the pic of your children! They are a good lookin' bunch!

And Moore, I can offer absolutely no assistance on the camera front. I have a little digital thing from Wal-Mart, and I don't even know how to work the features, LOL. I just take pics and upload. That's all I know how to do.

What's up for the weekend? I have absolutely no plans except reading all these books I have from the library. I've already got grocery shopping out of the way, so that I don't have to go anywhere.

To echo Jojo, Sundancer, your children are a very handsome lot! Brava! And thank you so much for posting those. Four kids. I'll remember that now. :)

We had a fairly busy Saturday running around. I had a 30% off coupon at the local nursery for November so I went over yesterday morning and got a new Christmas wreath as the old one was owing us nothing, to say the least. Then Ted and I met Christine for brunch at Ma Maison, had a quiche and latte while Ted had a steak sandwich with homemade frites. Christine and I ate them all, LOL. They were fantastic! From there we stopped by for a quick cuddle with the kiddies, went to pick up Chloe from her poodle parlour appointment, came home and gathered leaves for 4 hours. Gah. And the Norway maple still has about 10% of its leaves, so we're not done yet. After dinner we watched a really good movie on TV, Fracture, with Ryan Gosling and Anthony Hopkins. Good movie!!

Today is our big night at Maple Leaf Gardens to see Battle of the Blades. We received a call on Friday early evening from the producer's assistant to say she had 4 tickets for us, meet her there at 6. We called Marilyn, who then called Venetia, so the 4 of us will be front and centre to see the second last installment of a really wonderful CBC production, pitting professional figure skaters with old pro hockey guys against one another. It might sound a touch hokey, but it's been wonderfully successful and entertaining. We've all been following it on TV for the last 5 weeks. I'm hoping Kurt Browning will choose to sit on my lap for a moment tonight. *snort*

We were up bright and early this morning. Ted is plugged into his Sunday morning yawn fest on TV. We're supposed to pick up my parents for an early lunch out but when I phoned them at 10 they were still in bed and groggy, so we'll see. I'll call then back in half an hour.

I'll post a thing on Battle of the Blades. Battle of the Blades

Wow, busy Saturday!

Battle of the blades sounds really fun. I hope you all enjoy it!

I just attempted giving Jack a haircut, which was a painful experience. He's afraid of getting haircuts, which is odd, because he didn't use to be. So, now it's a little uneven, and I'll have to snip here and there when he allows me. Uggh.

The battle of the blades sounds like tons of fun. I love ice skating. Today we continue to get our house ready for the movers on Thursday. Ugh, I don't look forward to cleaning this house.

Jojo good luck getting Jack's hair trimmed the rest of the way. I think the only reason Jolene likes getting hers done is because we go to Cost Cutters and they always give her a lollipop when she is done.

WOW! The Battle of the Blades last night was really FUN! It was a little "interesting" for us to be sitting there amongst what we so snottily referred to as riff-raff, but considering that many of the fans present were families of retired pro hockey players and their whelps, it might be understandable. Behind us was a female hockey team and those teenage girls were a scary lot. In front of us sat two young boys with their parents who allowed the boys to stand up on the seats whilst screaming and jumping up and down. A few short rows ahead of us was Bryan Adams on his 50th birthday but he demurred from any camera time.

Biggest chuckle of the evening was the guest judge, Katarina Witt. There she was in all her resplendid glory with an industrial strength bra, doing her best to cash in on her tattered sex-kitten image, and at HER age, it was embarrassing. (Think about it - she won gold in the 1984 Olympics. She'd be nudging 50. Joan Collins, anyone?) She actually embarrassed Dick Buttons, a regular judge, with some of her sexually explicit remarks.

But it was a really fun evening, and really enjoyable.

When we got home, we re-watched the whole thing that I had recorded and I called to vote for my favourite couple, Shae-Lynne Bourne and Claude Lemieux. All couples were pretty spectacular but it was Claude's own voice for their first dance number, recorded in a studio earlier in the week, that blew me away. He sang the old Canadian standard "Hallelujah" and I almost wept.
