Busy Saturday and Sunday?

How was your weekend? This place got deserted. Yesterday morning I went to one of my classes regarding nutrition and reflexology. Today I made a pot of pea soup with all natural ingredients.

Hi all...that is anybody who's here, lol.

Yes, a VERY busy weekend running here and there, minding kids and mother, skiing at the crack of dawn on Saturday with V, who leaves her dad and Ted in the dust now, lol. She's so fast but controlled - I think she's going to be a great little skier. It's been nippy here at minus 19 and windy but sunny, thank goodness. It was time to haul out the long johns and gortex things, but if you're well-dressed, it's glorious to be out in the cold brisk air and sunshine. Since I was on hot-chocolate duty and V has a sensitivity to all things COW, I had to buy some rice milk stuff called Silk, made the hot chocolate from THAT. Um, yech, to put it mildly, lol. Another thank goodness that I had popped some Lindor rounds in the bag and we all had a couple of those to take that nasty rice milk taste away.

Now I know first-hand what "burn-out" means. I'm exhausted from this sandwich generation thing and need a break really badly. Ted says he'll take some annual leave days and we'll go somewhere for a few days but first I have to get the kitchen counters installed and that's supposed to happen this week. I'm not holding my breath because every time we plan on a little jaunt someplace, another crisis at work crops up and it's back-burnered. Next stop for me - a padded cell, lol.

Now Mike has made an urgent request that I mail to him his contact solution as they don't sell it in NZ. The last time he asked us to send him something down there (his trumpet, 2 years ago), it was a HUGE deal and when it finally arrived, he didn't even use it. And twice, Nick has asked us for his suits to be sent to him far away, once in Australia, once in Whistler, both times it was a major pain in the ass, and both times he hardly used them. I'm SURE that there is a suitable substitute for contact solution down under somewhere... Or, the boys could just STAY home, lol.

Sundancer, I LOVE reflexology!! Well-done, it can be a fabulous cure to all sorts of little complaints. I was rid of gall stones with a treatment a few years ago! The surgeons at the hospital were skeptical, of course, but there was no other explanation as the damn things were completely gone. You must share your experience, please!!

Sundancer and KaeEll, you both exhaust me!

KaeEll, you definitely NEED to get away with Ted for a few days; it's long overdue. If you pick a place that's not too far away, and is fairly easy to get to, then you won't be fretting about whether you can get home quickly, in the event of an emergency. GO FOR IT!

And put someone else in charge of your parents while you're gone. Let whoever that is field the phone calls, and all the stuff that isn't a major medical emergency. Then put EVERYONE completely out of your mind, and enjoy yourself.

Kae, you sound like you had a very busy weekend! No wonder you weren't here. There is one more reflexology class coming up. It is very interesting.

I know that I have posted this thermometer before, but here goes again:

I agree with Moore about getting away, except pick a place that is far away to where the palm trees grow!biggrin.gif

Kae do you have like a nice BnB not too far from your house. I have always wanted to stay at one of those. Or a nice ski resort. Even though I don't like to ski I always like to watch others do it. Either way, I agree with the others. Try just a weekend. On second thought forget the BnB. Go to a place where you can get a massage or something.

Anyways, not a busy weekend here. But Saturday we got a ton of snow that apparently the Hampton Roads area was completely not prepared for. It stopped snowing Saturday afternoon and they haven't really plowed anything but parts of the interstates. The kids had a snow day today, and at least Hailey has another tomorrow. Ugh, just annoying.

So the wedding countdown continues. We have less then 2 weeks. Pretty much most of the hard stuff is done. She is having a florist do our flowers. She found a place that can in fact get her daffodils. So she is thrilled. She will have sunshine at her wedding even though it is February in Virginia.

Shelly, keep us up to date on all wedding news. SO exciting! Pictures will be most welcomed too!!

Sundancer, thanks again for the thermometer. While we consider minus 19 nippy, it's still pretty cold no matter what you call it, non? It's positively balmy here today at minus 8 C, lol.

Here's a copy of the email I sent to my kids this morning chronicling our adventure into DIY kitchen counter preparations. If I'm in a reasonably good mood, I'd say I was bemused. Otherwise, pissed off would be more appropriate, lol.

Okay, so the new counter tops are to be installed tomorrow. The company wanted $150 to remove the old ones and dispose of them. Dad balked and said HE'D do it. I spoke to him three times in the past few days before the Monday, February 1st deadline of arranging the company's guys to do it, and he was steadfast in his determination. Alrighty, then. Ahem.

Last night, as soon as he got home, he went rummaging in the garage to return some time later with an armload of tools, 11 of them to be precise: three crowbars, two hammers, two chisels, and four different screw-drivers. They went on the kitchen floor in a place where I would trip over them at every turn. I said nothing for the first 12 hours.

At 8:40 p.m. last night, dad jumped up from his comfy perch on the family room sofa, said he'd be right back and proceded to dismantle the counters. Bang, bang, crunch, a few 'goddammits", more banging and more than a few groans. An hour later he reappeared downstairs and proclaimed that all but the counter around the dishwasher had been removed and set back down on the top so that the kitchen would still function for ME. (Excuse me, but most of the time I spend in the kitchen is for other people, namely HIM, but whatever...). Dad was pleased. I could see the wheels spinning as he was figuring out how best to break it to me that he'd need to disconnect the dishwasher, move it out in order to reach the screws for that counter, then dismantle the sink. Biggest hurdle would be, of course, remaining awake late enough to do the above, after DINNER and all, that meal I MAKE every night.

Oh well, a valiant effort so far, and I'm being quite the cranky ***** to complain or make light of this, considering that dad IS going to some effort to make this as painless as possible for me, the chief cook and bottle-washer. I suggested that the $150 saved could be put towards a couple of dinners OUT during the process. No comment from dad. (I should note here that the sink can't be re-connected for 24 hours after the installation because of glue or something. Dad has a big fancy dinner out in Yorkville on Wednesday night, and my dinner plans with Marilyn that night fell through, so my problem there.)

And so, here we are, the day before the new counters, the last day of my life I should have to look at those gawdawful green things taking centre stage of my day. And so far, no blood transfusions or bandages have been needed. I shall keep you posted. :)

love mom
