What a lovely night (although I had to stay up so late to see it live)! The Canadian and American couples who train together in Michigan both took home the top medals in the ice dancing competition last night.
Both sets of couples, who have the same ex-pat Russian coach, were sublime and smooth, flowing, almost flying, from one perfect swizzle to the next, in what was (for me anyway), a grand relief from choppy melodramatic flouncing we've had to endure in the past from the winning ice dancers who've taken top prizes for decades.
Viva North America! What a great Olympic night for all of us!
And, as an aside, so nice to see some PRETTY costumes too. No feathers, no fussy whatsitz, just pretty, simple outfits that let us see the skating unimpeded by flying bits of cloth. Or, for that matter, undistracted by controversial "tributes" to the aboriginal peoples. Someone gave that poor Russian couple same really bad costume advice.
We've missed a lot of the Olympics this time around, but I must say that I'm very happy with these results. SO great!! (claps loudly)
And somehow I'd missed the story of the skater who was in the wrong lane until Jim was talking about it earlier tonight. What a sad mistake! From what I understand, he was WAY out in front of everyone else. Not a happy way for the gold medalist to win either.

I actually have several friends on another board who are avid Olympics watchers. I dont know much. I can't watch a lot of the sports on tv. I just cant get excited about skiing on tv. Although that Shaun White is something to watch. How entertaining.
And I really just don't know why but the speed skating amuses me to no end. And who doesn't just love Apolo. Especially after watching him dance.
