After last weekend with all that beautiful warm weather, we're back to coats and mittens up here.
I started the South Beach Diet yesterday with my friend, Marilyn. I was up 4 times last night peeing. What the heck!?^%##* Now all I want to do is eat potatoes and white bread, fresh and hot from the bakery, LOL. Instead of my usual apple juice mixed with water, or better yet, a rather large bucket of chardonnay, I stirred up some crud called Crystal Light. OMG. It's sweetened with a godawful chemical and stays in your mouth for hours. There's something to be said for the old pot belly and a life with carbohydrates. We'll see how long this lasts.
Mike is getting ready to leave for Santa Monica for 6 weeks this week coming up. His g/f from NZ will be there. They found a nice furnished rental, bought a car. Mike says he'll surf all day, work when it's dark. Meanwhile, Nick has postponed his visit home to coincide with Mike's return. That means I'll have two, maybe 3 or 4 people here other than Ted and me. No rest for the weary, lol. No complaints, but it would be nice to have it spread out a little.
Time to rustle up some breakfast for the troops here. I made the stupid mistake last night of promising them mushroom and cheese omelets at 9:30.
Anyone here do any square dancing? We went square dancing yesterday evening which included a dinner. People came from different clubs from all over as much as 100 miles away. This afternoon our club is having group picnic. The weather is perfect for it.
We turned our heat on again a couple of days ago, but it's pretty today. Very sunny. Last night almost felt like fall, though.
We had a southern brunch of grits with spicy tasso, sauteed in a little butter. Remember when I made my own tasso a couple of years ago. Well, fortunately we found a local source for it, so I don't have to go through all of that anymore! LOL...
It's very strange to have a household filled with people, after you've become used to an emptier house. It's a bit of a shock to the system! When all three of our kids were away at school and/or college, Jim and I would feel really blue for a few days, then adjust. THEN they'd all come home for a holiday (or for the entire summer), and it was weird! Not to mention the extra wear on our washing machine, dryer, and dishwasher! (By the way, congratulations on getting your new dishwasher, KaeEll. I understand that it's supposed to be a really good brand!)
Sundancer, I haven't square danced in a gazillion years, but I always enjoyed it when I had the chance. Usually, it was in school, but it's great fun! Do you ever do the Virginia Reel?

It is sunny, its 70 here but Friday it got down in the 50's. Very cold after it almost reached 100 a couple times this week.
Kae, I am doing the milk thistle thing. No real diet. Eating healthy but not cutting anything out. I always figure if I do that then at some point I will explode and eat everything of that food I can find. So moderation is where I am at. Now that the weather is nicer i will be walking. I have 19 days until I am no longer "in my 20's" and to be honest I don't look forward to it at all.
I don't square dance. When I was in the Navy I was really big into line dancing and country dancing. But my husband doesn't dance.
Kae I am jealous of Mike. I love Santa Monica. It is such a wonderful place.
Moore I am glad you found a place to get that tasso. I remember it being quite the process. I hope things are going well in your part of VA.

Sundancer, I loved square dancing! But the only time we ever had the chance was during the time Ted was a member of Rotary Club. It's been years.
Shelly, good luck with the milk thistle. I haven't done a real diet in a long, long time, but my friend needs a buddy this time. She has now had 5 TIA's and has lost the sight in her left eye. She'll learn more on Monday about whether surgery will help. If it weren't for having promised to buddy-up on this South Beach thing, believe me, no way, lol. It's been 36 hours and I still can only think about hot white bread! And all this peeing!!! Geez.
Moore, yes, very odd having the influx of no kids to a full house, the chaos, then the dead quiet. Sometimes it drives me a little nuts. It can be a real emotional roller-coaster. I wish sometimes I had a "do-over", but alas... To cheer myself up sometimes, I'll do something really shallow, like go squirt myself with Bulgari perfume at the cosmetics counter at the local drug store, lol. When you smell so good, how can you get the blues? It last for about an hour. LOL. Life. eh? But it beats the alternative.
Dinner tonight is salmon and salad. I'll make the men a whack load of potatoes and tell them to eat away from me or I'll have my fork poised over their plates.

I don't do the Virgina Reel. I have heard of it, but am not familiar with it.
