Last Sunday in April

Can you guys believe that April is already almost over. This means I only have 2 months give or take of peace before the kids are out for the summer and I have to come up with something to do.

And alas, this is my last week in my 20's. I know this shouldn't bother me, and I am sure that come Saturday I will be fine but at the moment I am sad about no longer being in my 20's. It has been a good decade for me. Got married, had my girls. Met all of you. Its been good. Anyways, we are going to this place called Joe's Crab Shack. Its a really fun place and since my hubby won't eat seafood it is a treat for me.

I am hoping for a gift card or two for my birthday so that I can go buy some flowers for my yard. I realized that in every house we have been in I left bulbs of some kind. SO I need to get some flowers put in the ground.

Anyways, enough chatter for me. What are you all up to?

Shelly, don't sweat the birthday. Really. You'll love the thirties...

I'm with you about the crab shack. I love-love crab, so that would be a great place for me to celebrate a birthday too. YUM! As for flowers, you might want to get something that adds a real punch of color, and that also spreads a bit, like impatiens. Get a mix of hot pinks, whites, and purples for a real "statement". LOL. Impatiens do very well in Virginia, especially in semi-shade, and you can get a lot of mileage out of your small plants because they can be planted fairly far apart, and spread. And they're inexpensive.

Do you have the patience to start some summer cutting or wildflowers from seed? If so, this would be a perfect time to do it, and you can get them started inside, if you have a sunny location. One you have the little seedlings, you can transplant them into the ground. El cheapo...

I also love lavender. It's SO easy to grow, and smells so good, even after it's no longer flowering. It grows fairly quickly too, so by next year it would look pretty nice.

Daisies, black-eyed Susans, and butterfly plants are also nice perennials to have in Zone 7.

I'm working on dolls this weekend, and for the next few days, in anticipation of hanging our exhibit next Saturday. I'd rather be outside pulling weeds, and yanking down some ivy that's climbing a little too much! I'm also beginning to focus on the fact that our trip to Arizona is coming up soon, so that little anxiety is beginning to build. I never would have made a good "jet-setter"!!

It's gorgeous here today, and hope that it is for the rest of you too.

Well, it's Monday now. So much for the weekend.

Shelly, Moore's advice on flowers is always so excellent. Listen to her!! Impatience are always a sure bet too, for instant gratification, one of my specialties, lol.

Saturday was a whirlwind of 17 errands. Pooped me right out. Then came Sunday and I had to wait until 4 p.m. to hear whether or not father would deign to come here for the usual Sunday dinner. Of course they came, but it pissed me off having to wait to know whether I was cooking for 2 or 4.

OOOOH, on Saturday, one of the errands was to the little cheese factory (in a creepy part of town) where I accidentally found some balsamic cream for cheap. It's usually about $10 a bottle around here and I found it there for $2.75 each if I bought a case. So I did!! It made my day. Love that stuff - swizzle it over veggies and meat, even strawberries. Zero fat, sugar or carbs. It's a miracle it hasn't become the IT food yet. Please try some if you haven't yet.

While waiting for the fence man and his estimate to put in that 2 meter fence on the west side, it's just a bit of laundry and dusting, then baby sitting Q until 7. Today we'll continue the lessons on phone apps. He took some "interesting" pics last week of his lunch, lol.

We spoke to Mike and Nick last night on the phone (thank you skype). Both are in fine shape. I really, really miss them. Such is life, always another tough lesson around the corner.

Oh, anybody tried that new/old head cold remedy with the squeeze bottle you stick up one nostril, put in the brine solution, express it out other nostril? (gross I know) It's supposed to be wonderful. One mission this afternoon before the baby sitting gig is to try to find one at the big pharmacies around here. Anyone know the official name for the thing? It's Indian (as in the sub-continent).

Shelly, I hope you have a nice birthday. Don't feel bad about leaving your twenties. Thirties are good. I will be leaving my fifties this coming July. Do you want to trade?

I also left my bulbs of tulips, daffodils, crocus, and hyacinths. Hopefully, other people are enjoying those flowers! Its sort of the gift that keeps on giving!

KaeEll, those things are called netty pots, and I think you can get them at Walmart. I've never used one, but they ARE supposed to be good. An alternative might be to get some saline nose spray, although that doesn't rinse you out!

It's a rainy day here, after a mostly rainy weekend.

Sundancer, is your husband back home?

Shelly -- trust all of us. The thirties are good.

Yes, I know that come Saturday I will feel silly for fretting about it. But since I fret about so little I am allowing myself this. Besides it gives me an excuse to have a nice frilly cocktail at the Crab Shack. I really love that place.

Anyways, thanks for the advice on flowers. The front of my house is all sun almost all the time...I had thought about getting something where i could get Navy colors. You know, a little gold and blue. I am still hoping I can find something good. I am use to being in New England where you can't plant flowers until late because of that darned May frost. So Virginia will be nice.

Kae, what a busy Saturday. I am tired reading about it. My anemia is acting up so I am tired anyways. Blech.

Anyways, Happy Monday all. Moore I imagine AMC is keeping you as busy as GH is keeping me.

Shelly, it's been busy on AMC, that's for sure... I'll have to think what might be a nice blue flower for you to plant, but otherwise you might want to get some marigolds. They actually have a certain repellant quality for some bugs, and are good to plant around vegetable gardens, for that very reason.

KaeEll, I haven't heard of balsamic cream before, and I thought that I knew all of the latest stuff for "foodies". LOL. I'll have to look for it.

I'm so glad to hear that both Mike and Nick are doing well, and I know how much you must miss them. It's never easy, even with adult children. And I don't blame you for being irritated by being left "on hold" by your father.

Sorry to be running, but I have to get back to the sewing machine, and I already spent a long time on the phone with AZ-daughter. Our trip is coming up very quickly now, and I need to SHOP for some clothes!! The hair appointment is already scheduled for next week.

Jim is having an MRI on his lower back as I write this, and he was NOT looking forward to being inside that tube for 40 mintues.

Shelly, apologies for not addressing your angst over leaving he 20's behind come Saturday. I can remember all too well my 30th birthday. Honestly, the 30's are so much better than the decade before. And the alternative isn't all that attractive.

Baby sitting yesterday went on almost 5 hours. Q took 11 new photos on my phone, lol. I wish my computer had a doodad that allowed me to share them, as silly as they are.

Today I'm staying home all day. The new fence will cost almost twice what we had thought, but well worth it in the long run.

Moore, doesn't the clinic doing Jim's MRI offer a sedative or something for the patient? That just seems so cruel making a person uncomfortable for a diagnostic procedure. Geez. It reminds me of that nutsoid ex-friend (the one who left her husband of 24 years for some Svengali she fell for at work) that wanted to go through a colonoscopy without the offered whatsit before, and the procedure had to be stopped because she was in so much pain. What a waste of everybody's time.

How did Jim feel after it all? Is all okay now?

Oh goody - I now get to boil one egg for my lunch along with 3 carrot sticks and a piece of cucumber. My stomach rumbles non-stop and if it weren't for the "dietary indiscretions" I commit in the middle of the night (peanut butter on a tablespoon, for example) I should be whittled away by now, lol. Alas... I'm not a very good diet follower.

Yes, I picked him up from the Houston airport Sunday evening. I went to the departure area instead instead of the arrival. It was so much easier and not crowded at all. We've done this often and it works very well.
