I remember having to make a report in Spanish on Cinco de Mayo. It seems that this holiday is celebrated more in the USA than in Mexico the same way St. Patrick's Day is celebrated more here thanin Ireland. Does anyone here come across any celebrations for Cinco de Mayo?
Florists ramp up their prices for holidays, so be careful not to get all caught up in that. Roses take the biggest hit. And I'm not all that crazy about them anyway, since you asked, lol. I'd much rather they cook dinner for me and plant something in the garden, but that won't happen anyway since 2 of them are far away and the one son here has such a short leash that I'll probably get some flowers delivered by the florist with a little note. Whatever... Time changes everything. As long as they remember to do something at all is fine with me. Since they forgot my birthday this past year, a dandelion in a box would be better than nothing. (I'm not one much for these "holidays". Thoughtful gestures randomly placed throughout the year are a lot more appreciated, but that's just me.)
I'll have my mother over for a nice dinner on Sunday and take her some potted flowers for the urns at their front door. She would LOVE to see all the little kids too, but it's not my call. Besides, if that WERE to happen, I'd be stuck making dinner for 9 with the ensuing mess, not much of an event to celebrate as far as I'm concerned.
In all, healthy, happy and successful kids mean the most to a mother, and by success, I don't mean making a truck load of money, but doing something meaningful with their lives that gives them satisfaction. I think that's the case with my 3, notwithstanding my difficulty understanding the one kid's rejection of a stint at Oxford University in favour of writing music and bumming around the planet. But he's happy, so what else could a mother ask?
Eh, Cinco De Mayo is one of the most overrated holidays we have. Everyone forgets the point and it's just another party holiday. Just like St. Patrick's Day.

I ended up ordering tulips. Unfortunately I live entirely too far away to do much else. So she gets a card from the kiddos and flowers from me. I usually either send yellow roses or something colorful. i like the bright colors.
